Inspiration

As students facing endless internship rejections, we felt the frustration firsthand- 50+ applications, zero replies. Then we learned 79% of Singapore companies simultaneously can't fill roles despite receiving hundreds of applications. This isn't a talent shortage; it's a bottleneck crippling our economy. That’s why we built Swift Jobs.

What it does

Swift Jobs uses AI-powered confidence scores to instantly connect the right talent with the right roles.

Job Seekers: Upload resume, answer 8 behavioral questions → AI analyzes technical skills, preferences and work style → Get confidence scores (0-100%) for each job → Auto-match when >85%

Hiring Managers: Input job description, preferences and work style → AI ranks candidates with score breakdowns ("85% i.e. strong React, collaborative, prefers hybrid") → Filter top 10%/25%/50% → pre-screen candidates understanding fit beyond just keywords.

Matching: Both matched → chat unlocks, Schedule interview → direct connection, no intermediaries.

How we built it

Stack: Next.js 14, TypeScript, Tailwind, Supabase (database/auth/real-time), Groq LLM, Vercel

System Flow: Groq LLM extracts structured data from resumes and job descriptions Confidence engine compares across 3 weighted dimensions: technical skills (40%), experience relevance (30%), behavioral fit (30%) Matches 85% >, Groq contextualise and analyse both parties input data. Chat enables direct candidate-employer communication / interview scheduling

Challenges we ran into

The Resume Lying Problem: Early tests showed our AI occasionally "improving" resumes by adding skills people didn't actually have. Imagine applying for a React job and the AI claiming you know Vue.js when you don't. We had to add guardrails: the AI can only rearrange and emphasize what's already there, never invent.

Trust Without Transparency: Our first confidence scores just said "78% match" - but what does this value actually represent? Users wouldn't trust it. Thus, we rebuilt the system to explain every score: "Strong technical skills, similar experience level, but prefers remote while job is onsite." Transparency turned skeptics into believers.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Scope Expansion: Started with internships, built infrastructure for Singapore's entire job market.

Semantic Intelligence: True contextual understanding, "led team of 5" matches "collaborative leader" without exact words.

Transparent AI: Scores explain reasoning, building trust through clarity.

Two-Sided Solution: Simultaneously serves job seekers and employers, recognizing hiring as a market problem.

Purpose-Driven: Aligns with Smart Nation's vision of technology elevating sustainability within Singapore's job market.

What we learned

Product: Explanations build trust - "85%" alone is meaningless. Automation should feel magical, not expose complexity. Two-sided markets are harder but create powerful network effects.

Human: Everyone has hiring horror stories - this is deeply personal. Technology should serve human potential, not replace it.

Reflective: We evolved from "better job board" to "hiring infrastructure." That shift from feature to foundation matters most. Singapore's advantage is our people - the systems we innovate must help them thrive.

What's next for SwiftJobs

Near-term (3-6 months): SIT Career Nexus Programme, official API partnerships (LinkedIn, MyCareersFuture), university white-label deals ($150K contracts), ATS integrations, mobile optimization.

Medium-term (1 year): Recruitment agency partnerships (10% placement fees), market intelligence platform, continuous model refinement from hiring outcomes, regional expansion across Southeast Asia.

Long-term (3 years): Become Singapore's default hiring infrastructure, open-source confidence engine for global fair hiring, MOM policy partnership, full talent management suite.

Vision: Make "Swift Jobs confidence score" the standard for job fit - like credit scores for lending. When AI understands fit better than humans, every capable person finds their place efficiently. That's economic sustainability. That's Smart Nation realized. That's our commitment.
