We were inspired to make this by the original story of Monopoly the board game. Elizabeth Magie's original vision for her game was to spread awareness about the negative consequences of monopolistic control and concentration of power/influence. But as the game gained popularity, her patented concept was stolen by a man who sold it to The Parker Brothers. Fearing litigation, The Parker Brothers bought Magie’s patent, creating a literal monopoly on… Monopoly. This ironic twist is the drive for our product. As consumer awareness is on the rise, and brand loyalty is on the decline, many shoppers don’t like contributing to giant corporations that make up our industry. However, it’s hard not to, when data on products, brands, and parent companies isn’t general knowledge.

We built the project by dividing the work into three sections: database/web scraping, web development, and back end/data processing. We ran into many challenges throughout this project, most of them being gaps of knowledge with the material we were facing (full-stack development). This was a topic none of us had tackled yet and thus had a great learning curve.

We learned a lot about our respective topics. The opportunity to get hands-on experience forced us to learn about the intricacies of each concept.
