Inspiration
Seeing a lot of digital divide back from our home in Africa has always agitated us. Leaving our respective countries to the US, we saw that the same situation applies within the underserved communities & even in students across different levels of education. Tons of people with high intellectual capacities have ideas to innovate but lack proper resources to accomplish their goals. We decided to bridge this gap by creating an Augmented Reality Lab whereby users can interact with one another and build different objects that suit their ideas in minds and also supports the virtual education schooling by providing them with better realistic resources to learn
What it does
The Augmented Reality Lab works by creating different objects of the user's choice (objects they will not usually have access to) by using speech control and in there the user can maneuver different objects in the Augmented Reality Space allowing them to have different view points.
How we built it
We built using parse server / Parse Database (still deciding) as the database to connect users across a server We used ARKit with Swift in programming the Augmented Reality Scenes We used Xcode as our interactive editor and Github for version control We used blender to prepare 3D models
Challenges we ran into
We ran into constant errors all the time when preparing the 3D Lab but with the right touch in terms of best implementations, we successfully persevered We also had a hard time trying to prepare 3D models to include within the Augmented Space We are absolutely new to AR technology & parse, but the little we have made progress in developing is outstanding
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We proud of using new tools we had no experience with initially. We are also proud of the team dedication we have committed to one another
What we learned
We learned that with the right amount of perseverance, we can incorporate any technology We learned how to work with 3D models and the parse server as well! :)
What's next for vLabs
vLabs would continue development to scale up its usage in which schools and classes would have access to. This would also be a great optimization in resources for the world
