Bajrangi The Great!!

Every new semester brings with it loads of new books to be bought, and books don’t come cheap at all these days, especially engineering books. It can get so bad that only 3 books may make you cough up more than a thousand rupees if not more! That’s the reason we all students hail Bajrangi Stores from the deepest part of our hearts.

Bajrangi Old and New Books Stores is the place where we all go whenever a new semester starts to sell old books and buy new ones in exchange, and with luck we get ourselves some ultimate deals (getting 5 books for under a thousand!!). Had it not been for this store, our pockets would have dried much early than expected.

This guy Bajrangi Sahu started this shop as just a peddler selling  a few shabby notebooks and small paperbacks. Soon people started selling him books and he started selling those second hand books to other people at half the cost and his business flourished soon after. Now there are 3 branches of the shop here in Ranchi and all are doing bumper business. It has been a great success story for him. Now that Bajrangi himself is a Government teacher, his brothers are running the shops but the Legend Of Bajrangi lives on!

Many more shops have come up too seeing the success of Bajrangi Stores, and this has become a dream come true for all those students who have the will to read but not much means. These shops with their cheap rates for books along with the option of availing books on rent, which has really facilated learning for the needy students. These people have done a great job. We would be always thankful to them!

Chowringhee

Exams over…summer vacations- It spells as a novel time for me (pun intended). i picked up this book Chowringhee by Sankar from a friends house just because i liked the cover…but man sometimes judging a book by its cover pays, as it did this time!

Chowringhee is a hell of a read..a fantastic combination of tragedy and comedy, which makes you cry one moment, while the next you will be rolling with fits of laughter! Writing of Sankar and the translation by Arunava Sinha is so fluid and simple that it simply leaves the reader spellbound!

The plot is based on a hotel in the city of Calcutta of the 1950’s. Its the story of managers, bartenders, receptionists, laundry workers, bearers and the all important guests woven into each other. Yes it seems a regular one, but the treatment to the plot is simply one of its kind. Do give this a try! Even this says the same!
