People all around the world are worried about the rising prices, the problem of global warming, reduction in the worldwide per-capita grain availability and blah blah blah. Problems of freedom as in Tibet are causing whirlpools all around the globe. Yes its 21st century, and still many people refuse to believe it is so!
While one doesn’t have much hopes for their own survival, people are branding widows as witches and even barring them from entering temples. Yes its 21st century. Population is exploding, yet many people are there who are creating more and more children to satisfy their yearning for a male heir. Yes its 21st century, and yes its India.
I was terrified this morning when I read the newspaper, which had the headlines Widow paraded Naked as a punishment for entering a temple and Widows branded as witches and forced to eat human excreta. Is this some medieval age or what? No, people its the 21st century and its India. I mean, at one hand there is huge hullabaloo over women’s rights and equal participation for women in all the spheres while we have such instances of intense crimes against the women folk on the other hand.
People like a 62 year old, Mr. Dhaneshwar Patra from Kendrapada are still there who went ahead and married a 25 year old woman just to get a male heir in the family. how mean, and how cheap!
