Hi, I’m Doctor Popular! I’m a yo-yoer, artist, game designer, musician, and WordPresser. I live in San Francisco’s Mission District.
I got the 🪀 yo-yo emoji added to unicode. I’ve produced beats for MC Frontalot, MC Lars, and YT Cracker, and I’ve even toured as a nerdcore rapper. In San Francisco, I’ve organized local meetups such as the SF Cartoonist Conspiracy and the SF Yo-Yo Meetup. I’m a strong believer in the open web and the positive impact of social media. In 2009, Wired included me on their “100 Geeks To Follow On Twitter” list and in 2010, I organized the very first Instagram photowalks (aka #Instawalk).
I’ve been an active crytpo-skeptic and ran NFT Theft, a Twitter account that documented the harm that NFTs and “web3” were causing artists and fans.

- Created the Schmoove Groove, a method of reducing friction on the inside walls of a yo-yo
- Created the Beefcake mod, a method of stacking ball bearings to make a wider gap inside the yo-yo
