Dooby Dooby Moo

Image
The end of the school year is always filled with school programs. Reagan's kindergarten class put on the play Dooby Dooby Moo. Reagan was a pig. She was actually brave enough to say her part. (This is a 1st for Reagan, in preschool I would go to the performances and watch the other children do their parts and watch Reagan hide behind the teacher.) She was a fabulous pig, she would say her line, "oink, oink, boing" and then bounce on a mini-tramp.Image

Hayden's Choir Concert

Image Hayden's school choir was one of 13 choirs in the state that were invited to participate in a Spring Concert at Abravanel Hall. It was really fun to see them sing their hearts out.
ImageTheir choir leader describes them as small but mighty. Only 14 children participated in the concert. They performed 2 numbers and I could hear Hayden voice he was really singing out.

Spring Break 2009

We had such a fun family vacation for Spring Break this year! We began the week by celebrating Easter with my family. Then we hit the road again and took a little side trip to Tucson, Arizona. 1/2 way between Phoenix and Tucson is a ostrich farm, we had such a good time. It was definitely one of the many highlights of the trip. ImageThey give you a large cup full of feed and you feed it to the ostrich, miniature donkeys, or deer. They also give you a cup of nectar that you take into an aviary and feed Lorakeets.
Image The deer were so sweet and gentle no one was afraid to feed them.

Image Most of us learned personally that YES, Ostrich do bite!

Image
Image McKenzie, Hunter, and Hayden immediately started feeding the Lorakeets. You can see Reagan standing in the background...she was a little nervous about having birds land on her.

Image She eventually tried it and loved it!

Image I really can't believe that I have included this photo, but, this was part of what made the trip to the farm so funny! I really was not fond of feeding the Lorakeets and made quite a scene as I screamed and carried on. Apparently Lorakeets quite like fruity hair products (which I use) and it felt like they were nesting in my hair--- I was a mess, and of course Tom capture all of my emotion on film! McKenzie made a funny comment afterward, she said "Mom you don't even like it when your kids touch and play in your hair." Yes, Kenz... that is true

Image We took a monster truck tour through the desert. They showed us their farms, took us 4 wheelin' and taught us to be real rednecks. At the end of the tour we stopped to fish for ostrich. They told us that any ostrich that we could get onto the dock we could keep.
ImageHere's Hunter doing his best to pull one over!

Definitely our favorite part of going to Tucson was seeing Ryan and family. It was so fun to see where they live, and get to play with them. Ryan took us on a tour of U of A, what a beautiful campus (we hope that the tour got Kenzie geared up for college. )

ImageThe museum was in a beautiful part of the desert! Very wild terrain !

At the end of the week we came back to Scottsdale and played with my mom & dad, Jared & Heather, and the Batemans. One of the highlights for the kids was going to Amazing Jakes (an indoor theme park). The group of cousins went and everyone agreed, IT WAS AMAZING!!
(After about 7 hours at Amazing Jakes, we were all ready to go...
well all the adults were ready to leave!)

Image
We bowled!

Image
The 3 youngest children (Reagan, Ellie, and Spencer) loved the frog hopper ride. We could not get them off it. They probably rode this ride 20+ times during the day.

ImageEven the bigger kids enjoyed the rides!

Image
Each bumper car team raced to the finish line!

Image
They asked Hayden to stay off of the ride for a few minutes, because he was a "reckless" driver!

Celebrating Easter our Way

So each family celebrates Easter in their own way... our way involved a ladder and many miscellaneous items! Jared and Heather were assigned the task of coming up with a fun creative interactive activity that both adults and children would enjoy. Their solution... THE EGG DROP! It was a huge hit. The kids picked adults to help them, and each team was given identical items. The challenge ... to package your egg well enough that it would survive the drop from the top of the ladder.Image Image
As you can imagine this is how most of the eggs looked after the fall!
ImageThe 2 teams that had success both had the same last name; you guessed it--- BATEMAN!

Image The Bateman kids were proud to have such "SMART" parents!

ImageNo Easter is complete without an egg hunt. These kids were really spoiled, there was oodles of goodies spread around grandma's yard. Here is the gang of cousins waiting for the egg hunt to begin.

Image Easter Morning

This year for Easter we spent time in Arizona with my family. It had been such a long time since we had gotten to celebrate Easter in Arizona. It was so much fun. There is nothing quite like the feeling of coming home! My mom always continues to amaze me, she devotes mega amounts of time, energy, and money to her family parties...as always...it was FABULOUS!!

Happy Birthday McKenzie

Image
I can't believe that McKenzie is 17! Wow, how time is flies! For her birthday this year, I let her ditch school. The 2 of us went and got pedicures, did a little shopping, and then when out to lunch. Kenzie is super fun to be around and we really had fun together. I'm really excited for Kenz, this is such a fun time in her life. Just think, next year she's a senior and then off to college. If anyone can figure out how to slow time down, PLEASE let me know. It kills me that in a little more than 1 year she could be leaving home!!!

I feel like myself again

Image
I had my hair cut and colored by my cousin Calie this week. It was such a treat! Calie was in a serious automobile accident 5 months ago and has been out of commission. I just wanted to say how much I had missed her doing my hair. It was so nice to have my "favorite" hairdresser back... I feel like myself again. THANKS CALIE!

(So that isn't me in the picture (THANK HEAVENS) I just thought the post was a little boring without it!)

It's Finally Spring!

The weather has been so beautiful this week, what a nice change! 2 nights this week Tom has taken Reagan on hikes in the mountains above our home. She has adored this one on one time with dad. Now she is in love with hiking and asks to go the second Tom walks through the door. What a great dad he is !Image
Image

Image
She found a small cabin, scaled rocks, saw horses and just simply loved every minute of it!

Image

Here's the final picture that Tom took on their hike. Apparently Reagan did great through the whole thing, she didn't complain about being tired and scaled the rocks with success. When they got to the road and began to walk home she tripped and bloodied one hand and both knees.
Poor Girl! She was a little sad, but, her enthusiasm for hiking has not diminished.
