THE GRADUATE PLUS COUNCIL

Now that Slapshot has graduated albeit the lowest member of his  obedience class perhaps things will b e more normal in his home.



Normal may be the right word for the 2014 Council year. Monday night's Special Council meeting portends a difficult year for the incoming Mayor and of course the City.

Under normal Democracy it is  customary to fill a vacant elected position with a member of the same party the previous holder belonged to. Unfortunately in Plainfield for all practical purposes there is only one party, the Democrat party. The principal remains true in that since we are all one party the replacement for a resigned Democrat will be a Democrat.

However the fact that there are at least two factions in the Democrat party does not mean that anew Democrat will be replaced by a  so called "New Democrat" supporter. Instead of the three Candidates proposed. the gang of four en block chose the one candidate that supposedly has the closest allegiance  to the Boss-man. The 2014 Council will on the majority of issues vote 5:2 . 

The fact that the people chose Mapp to succeed  as Mayor means nothing to the unholy four who seem to march to a different drum beat which ignores the will of the people.

Another indication of the contempt for the public was shown by the Council scheduling the  public meeting to start at 7 pm but keeping them waiting to 8:20 pm- almost 90 minutes -1 and 1/2 hours standing in the City Hall lobby. 

Remember that  Gloria Taylor's term is only for 2014. A  midterm replacement for a vacancy on the Council is only until the next general election to fill the unexpired term. Also remember that at the June primary it will be possible  to change the power position on the Council  with two new and one returning Councilor could be elected. 

KIDS

A best present ever; a blanket sent by the Richmond bunch. This represents three families. The kids are in age order from left to right. Casey (aka Sheldon) will be 13 in Sept. and Jake 5 in Feb.

Tonight's Special meetings will merit a brief report tomorrow, The day after New Years Day may be marked by a snowstorm. After that it will be time to resume normal blogging.

FINAL REPORT

The last of the "OH HELLERS" left after dinner to split the drive to Ohio. Weather out west will be bad Sunday afternoon. There will be a full day to recoup before  the New Yeras week.

 The Special Council meeting Monday will give the Council members a chance to choose from the slate of three which had been presented to the Democrat City Committee. The actual vote 4:2 perhaps will give a good indication as to how the Council will be in 2014.  The reorganization meeting should also be of some interest. Perhaps the Agenda setting session Monday will throw light on that meetig.

For those who care, and I don't know why, the as anticipated the final standings after two more games did not  change.

Mercy upon us.

According to the Star Ledger early Christmas morning there was a fatal shooting in the Park Ave/9th St. area. Is that 9 or 10 for 2013? In view of the victim's record it was most likely drug related rather than gang. Just a  guess. Let  2014 be better.

This house should be quiet Sunday afternoon!, perhaps time for a real blog for Monday.

The Husband/wife collusion has been somewhat successful. It was not to the 8th game that skill was justified with a win.The so call expert who has always had extraordinary luck has finally met his due; dead last.

SAD NOTE

In his 17th year on Saturday Mick reunited with his twin Mack in Cat Heaven. He too is already  sorely missed by those who knew him.

Happy note: Tonight two great grandchildren accompanied by their baggage (parents) will be in residence for the week. No daily blogs.

WAS THE FIX ON?

Trivia or is it?  Monday I remarked to someone that there was going to be a winner or more in the Mega Million this week. 

Wit h the new whiteball numbers up to 75 the chances to get 5 were almost zero. For the past 20+ weeks  at least two and often three numbers have been  in the new high ones.  It would be fixed; not to any specific number but that when the numbers were drawn they would all be  low ones so that someone who plays birthday numbers would win.

Tuesday for the first time since the  format was changed; five numbers below the old limit of 56 and fact all below 30 were the  ones that popped out. The result 2 winners and at least 5 more had those white ball numbers. 

Just a coincident? I wonder. What are the odds of all numbers being below 30?

Anyhow my ticket had 3 numbers high in the spread.

TRIVIA

Three more days until the shortest day of the year, after that it will be all uphill for the next six months.

Four more days before the Oh Hellers descend upon my house for the semi-annual tournament.

Ten more days before the New Year. Ten days in which outside pressures will most likely prevent writing this blog; but do check if either local, national, or international happenings might merit some comment.

In the realm of trivia did you know that the Sochi Game’s Olympic Torch has travelled further than any other torch in the history of the games.

It has had the most flameouts, I believe 12 so far, and once a cigarette lighter was used to relight it, not the backup flame. Two additional shutting of the flame took place on a trip under water, and o of course on its visit to the Space Station.

Sochi by the way is at about the same laditude as Boston. It is and was a Soviet workers summer vacation resort. It has a Stoney beach not sandy like our shore.
