I love
brooklinegirl more than words can say. So much so, that when I found
this story this morning, I actually TEXTED her about it. Yes, NBC is thinking about bringing back "Wiseguy." I ruminated on that for a while, and this next bit seemed to come naturally.
Because Garett is going to get up early and take a piss and then amble out into the living room in the dark to get on the computer. He's ready to dial in when he's body slammed to the floor, and there's Ken looking strung out and wild, "you can't use the modem! We have to keep the phone free! I can't miss their call!"
Garett thinks Ken is having another one of his episodes (and internally vows never to allow another aerosol can in the house again) but Ken lets him up off the floor (which is good because there's an empty can of Schlitz digging into his kidney) and is thrusting a piece of paper at him.
"KEN! I bought that toner special so I could print out some more headshots and resumes! I told you to stop printing off shit from the Hooters website!" Richard promised to send at least one resume to someone at CBS, and Garett was going to hold him to that. Richard is a good friend.
"No," rasps Ken "look- look! It's finally happening!" And Garett glaces down at the paper.
"Google alerts? I didn't think you knew how to use that?" Because Garett is constantly getting interrupted by Ken needing his help navigating to his own FORUM, for Chrissakes.
"One of the gals in the fanclub set it up for me. READ it, though!" Garett finally reads the headline.
"They're redoing
Wiseguy?" he breathes, and it seems overwhelming at first. "Holy shit, Ken."
"I know," says Ken grimly. "And there's no
Wiseguy without Ken Wahl." He leans back until he's sitting against the couch, surrounded by empty pizza boxes and old issues of
Hustler. Garett sees that the princess phone has come down off the wall and is sitting on the floor next to him. "They'll call soon. Today, probably."
And Garett will back next to Ken, listen to him light up a cigarette and won't even bring himself to complain about Ken smoking in the house again. "They're gonna call," he'll echo, as the pink light of the new day sneaks through the curtains. "They're gonna call."
