Each year when the fall decoration box comes out, the kids get super excited to see the Halloween costumes again. The knight is always a big hit.

Fall Sisters Retreat
The semiannual Texas Shurtz Sister Retreat was held in College Station over the weekend. Sweet little 5 week old Trevor came to join the festivities. Suzanne, Christine, and I were there, but we missed Jenny.
Suzanne and I drove to the Houston temple early Saturday morning. By the time we returned Christine and Trevor would arrive soon and the eating, laughing, nursing, ice cream, and shopping began. We finished the evening off with the women's General broadcast. So fun to live close enough to sisters to get together!

Danica's notes
Danica drew this witch at preshool. I find it's easier for me to throw her artwork away if I take a picture first.
Friday morning chocolate muffins
Every Friday morning we have chocolate muffins.
The kids look forward to it all week. I look forward to it also, since I don't have to decide what's for breakfast.
Today I made three batches. Two batches for seminary breakfast, and since I had all the mess out, I went ahead and made tomorrow's breakfast also. Which by the way provoked various grumpy remarks from Dayton about not having them straight from the oven.

Dallin
Dallin's voice has sure been changing since the summer. It sometimes catches me off guard wondering who I'm hearing. He's 5'7" and quickly catching me and his dad. He weighs in at 140lbs and has a shoe size 11. He's taking some tough classes in high school and getting challenged.

Saturday Games
Volleyball season is in full swing for Dallin. Our ward's team got their first win. It was by forfeit, but hey they'll take it.
Ronald MacDonald?
Welcome Home
Devin just loves having his brothers come home from school. It's easily his favorite time of day.
Trombone Firsts
Dayton brought his trombone home for the first time. He had to blow for 10 seconds. He had fun startling all of us with loud noises when we'd come down the stairs, around the corner, or home from school.
Boys and Their Sticks
If you come to our house to visit, you'll need to step over and around multiple sticks littering the front walkway and lawn. The boys go scavengering around the empty lots looking for old survey markers (yes, old ones) and wood. We have this great looking fort right next to us in the empty lot. It has provided hours of entertainment!

Devin sick
Today Devin came down with a fever. At least I know that it will only last about 48 hours like Danica's did. Lots of snuggling, stories, and Dora today.

Danica's sick
Danica started running a fever about 10:30 this morning and complaining about a headache. Poor thing.

Today's Happenings
Dallin's Eagle project was officially approved and he gathered all the signatures he needed. Hooray, now he can start the fun part!
A butterfly had built a cocoon on our little citrus tree. It emerged this afternoon, cool.
Danica requested "singing cereal" for a snack. (Those Krispy Rice sure do snap crackle and pop.)
The water bottle interrogations were fruitless. Although, when Dave started cutting out sheetrock to fix the hole he found some of Danica's treasures tucked inside the wall. She's become the prime suspect.

The $150 Water Bottle
Yesterday morning Dave noticed our toilets were all acting up. He spent as much time as he could trouble shooting the problem to no avail. He left for work with this injunction: Don't use the toilets, they're not working. Hmmm, that might be a bit hard for me and the kids. I went to Home Depot and explained our problem. The nice worker sold me a toilet snake and explained how to use it.
I went home, put the little ones down for naps, changed into my "plumbing clothes" and tried my hand at being a plumber. No luck (surprise, surprise!). But I thought that maybe Dave might have better luck now that he had a new tool. After his noble attempt (all of about 30 minutes since he had to head off to bishopric meeting/mutual), still no success.
When he returned home about 11pm, he woke me to tell me he thought he'd discovered our problem after talking to someone at church. The next morning Drew said, "I've got to hurry and get to school. I need to go to the bathroom." Dave and I went out to the front yard to look at one of the pvc pipes that sticks up in our lawn. We found raw sewage around it. Dave gleefully informed me that we could call the city and they'd come fix it for free!
They came. They said it wasn't a city problem. They said to call a plumber. At that point I called the plumber. Gratefully they were able to come right out. They quickly found the source of our problem. "It's really strange what we found," they said.
"This ought to be good," I thought, "and it will definitely involve the kids!"
A large squirt bottle had been put down the hole and caused all the blockage. The plumber was able to push it away from the house, but then it got stuck at the turn to the main city line. They started fiddling with it the best they could. I asked one of the fellows what they'd have to do if they couldn't get it out. The process he told me sounded expensive; he said it'd run about $1000! Gratefully with a little more work, the bottle pushed around the corner and out of our sewer line. So the bill was only $150. That's one expensive water bottle.
Tonight when the kids come home it'll be interesting to see if anyone knows anything about it.... Whoever designed a sewer line with access as simple as lifting a pvc lid obviously didn't have kids!
This Saturday's project is repairing the wall. The 6"hole Dallin's knee made while playfully chasing his brothers around the house. Such fun.
