Taven is one of the bravest four and a half year olds I know. It takes a whole lot to make him cry and he can handle just about anything, except the dentist! We have known for a while now that he would have to have some work done, and knowing just how tough he is and just how much he hates the dentist- we knew he would have to be put under to do it. It took three nurses (one of which was a dude) an anesthesiologist (also a big dude) and me to hold the kid down just to get the laughing gas mask on him!
The nurses and doctor warned me that "however they go under is how thy wake up. Every kid his age will wake up screaming, and can't be pacified, even by mom, for usually twenty minutes or so. It's totally normal". Normal? I thought the lady sounded crazy.... Well my brave little Taven woke up as peaceful as ever. They don't let you stay with them during the procedure, and they make them 'come to' before they bring you back to see them. When I finally got to go see him, Taven was so adorable and so coherent. The doctor said he was one f his bet patients ever to one out of surgery- and he's only four! I was so proud of him.
