Life's Not Fair

The title of my blog explains it all. Life’s Not Fair. If you don’t already know I’m sorry you have to read about it through a blog. My cute mom passed away unexpectedly on December 18, 2007. She was eating out with my dad on the 12th and she didn’t feel very well. So she went outside to get some air and collapsed. My dad and the manager tried to do CPR but no air would go in. The paramedics arrived and couldn’t get any air in either so they intubated her on the spot and took her to the hospital. They thought she had a stroke or a heart attack but tests showed neither of those two were the case. They then took her off sedation to see if she would wake up from her coma. Unfortunately, she didn’t and tests showed she was brain dead from the lack of oxygen. We, as a family, decided to take her off life support at 7pm on Dec 17th and at 3:30am on the 18th she had passed away.

Family, friends and coworkers have been such a huge help through this whole ordeal. Sometimes I wonder when I’m going to wake up from this horrible nightmare. It has been the most traumatic event of my life. I’m so grateful to my wonderful husband who listened to me cry and repeat over and over that life just isn’t fair, and the timing was even more unfair. He watched me sob as I tried to be the strong one. A role I couldn’t take on for once in my life.

Annabelle is doing great through all of this. I’m 34 weeks along and she is as active as can be. Poor girl has already been though a lot and hasn’t even been born.

Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers. I definitely needed them.

Milkman & Pregnant Women

Image Brent and I decided to go as the milkman and pregnant women to our ward halloween party. We understand that it is a bit sketchy but it drew quite a few laughs. The funniest being that I had to stuff my shirt with a bike helmet to make me look pregnant even though I was 6 and 1/2 months along. Brent was such a sport. (by the way I'm holding a carmeled apple)

Spacey, Spacey, Spacey

Image
I have to admit when I saw this "Belly Laugh" on Baby Center it hit too close to home. I can honestly say that in mid stride I'll forget where I was going and why. And the funny thing is, it's not just a mental lapse, I don't remember even after thinking about it. I know studies have shown you loose brain cells during pregnancy but this is ridiculous. Lucky for me some people around me at work just had a child or is going to have one so they understand. But it does get annoying when people ask you to do something and then check up on you to see if you actually did it. I'm not used to that type of supervision but honestly I need it or some things may never get done. I've long past the klutz stage of my pregnancy. I can remember for two weeks straight whenever I would get into the shower I would stub my toe on the edge of the shower. It would baffle me every time I did it and yet just before I would get in I wouldn't remember that, "yesterday I stubbed my toe so today I should be more careful." I would just stub my toe again. I hope that doesn't come back during the 3rd trimester.
On a lighter side we have been feeling the baby kick now for about a week. Brent got the wonderful opportunity to feel her kick after he decided to shake my belly a little because she would stop kicking as soon as he put his hand on my belly. She then proceeded to kick him in the hand a couple of times. I think she was annoyed. I don't feel her all the time but once a day will suffice for me right now.

Welcome Mr. Recliner to our family

Image
We are the proud owners of a new rocker-recliner. After searching high and low we finally found one that met our needs. We only had a few criteria it needed to meet: 1. I had to be able to touch the ground to actually rock in it 2. it was overstuffed (which goes into direct opposition to 1.) 3. it had to be really, really comfy and 4. it had to be affordable. Within the first hour of us owning it, I took a 20 minute cat nap in it and I have to say this recliner is definately worth it.

It's Snowing....

Image
This is a picture of our apt complex getting covered in snow on Saturday...yep it was SEPTEMBER 29. So for those of you who miss Utah-think again. It was in the mid 30's all day. This desert rat sure didn't like the weather. Though it was fun to put on my snow boots because they are so comfy...yeah it was a little overboard for the weather but I just love my snow boots. It looks like this weekend we will be hit again with another snow storm. Fun for my parents coming from Vegas...they may just have to buy a hefty winter coat.

Going from 1 to 2...

bedrooms that is. We are excited to say that we have finally moved into a two bedroom apt. I know, I know we are definately moving up in the world. It was quite a miracle that we even got it. Our move was all the way across the hall...literally. We opened both the doors and transfered furniture. The only way our move could have been any easier is if maintanence could moved a wall for us and just given us the other bedroom. We feel really blessed we got this apt. I was dying trying to think of how we were going to fit all of Annabelle's things into our one bedroom and all of sudden our neighbors decided to move and with a little tricky work we got their apt. The downside is that we will miss our neighbors. Thanks to Matt & JaNae & Laurence for helping us.

Going from 2 to 3

We are so excited to start this new chapter in our lives. I thought it would take a little longer to get pregnant but Brent knew once I got off BC I would conceive. I relied on the rumor that it takes 2-3 months for the BC to wear off, (my warning is to be weary of this falsity) and then maybe even longer. Brent was able to be home for the first six weeks of pregnancy and then off to Israel he went for another six weeks. We were soo excited about being pregnant that keeping it a secret was difficult to say the least. Even more difficult than that was realizing that I was going to be a mom and that this was all real. Even being 20 weeks along now I still forget I'm pregnant.

The ultrasound was amazing and it has brought the fact that in 5 months we will be parents into more clarity. Image

And here is where we found out we will have our little GIRL, Annabelle Kay - or Belle as we will call her.

This is the best blessing yet...besides finding each other. We feel truly humble to have this resposibilty. She'll come sometime early Feburary.

Mexican Adventure

What can I say about our trip to Mexico. Every pregnancy book I read said that as a couple we needed to take one last big trip before we have our baby. So at 3 months pregnant we decided to take our second honeymoon back to Mexico. But this time Cancun and at a 5 Star All-Inclusive Resort there. We had a wonderful time up until the last day. I got food poisoning and "freaked out" because I couldn't eat anything and I wasn't feeding my new baby anything. (this is where I made up for all my non morning sickness throughout my pregnancy...in one night) Brent ended up with food poisoning as well but he was lucky enough to have it when he came home and not at the resort and on the plane ride home. Lets just say this experience left us loving America more and vowing never to step off this blessed land (besides industrialized Europe of course.)Image

The beach there was to die for and they had all these beds with shade everywhere. We easily found a place everyday we went and played endless card games on them.

Chichenitza Temple

I chose the Riveria Maya for our vacation so Brent could see some Mayan Temples (my little history buff) On a funny side note we ran into another LDS couple who asked us if we think the temple area was built by Nephite or Lamanite decendants... without really knowing we were LDS, I guess Brent wearing a Utes hat may have given it away but man what an assumption. Funny enough Brent and I already had that discussion...surprising really (he's also a scriptorian.)Image

This is a sink hole where people dived in and went swimming. We passed but it did look nice.

"No Return Policy"

May 6th, 2006 was the start of our happy little family! We were so excited to share this day with our friends and family.

All the boys.
So here's the story on the "No Return Policy." The big guy standing right next to me (Liz) is my dad Ed. (I know he looks like a big teddy bear and really he is but trust me don't cross him.) When Brent went to Vegas to ask my dad's permission to marry me my dad told him there is a "No Return Policy" on me. Lucky for me I haven't had to remind Brent of that. But that comment definitely made us laugh.
