Trees!

I feel as if this tree knows everything I ever think of when I sit here. When I come back to it, I never have to remind it of anything; I begin just where I left off. ~Willa Sibert Cather, O Pioneers!, 1913

Here’s the last of my three bold, more abstracted reflection paintings. These were all painted from some pictures I took on a hike in Montreal. I really enjoy the vivid, graphic look of these pieces.

Happy 2023

Image

 ๐Ÿ’ซ Happy 2023 ๐Ÿ’ซ

As I was thinking about what to write I spent some time looking back through my feed. My entry from the end of 2020 stopped me in my tracks—it brought back a flood of memories. I decided to repost as a) a reminder of how far we’ve come and b) to hang on to a bit of what we discovered during that time ❤️ xo

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out 2020๐ŸšชGrateful of course for many, many things but also happy to see the back end of this loathsome year.

Looking back at 2020 saw my painting take a bit of a backseat—sustaining concentration was often a challenge ๐Ÿ˜‘—but I started up a tea towel business that has been very gratifying. Definitely a plus. I also ran a kindness project (another plus). I discovered a love of Cheetos and Nerds (this has got to be a minus. Apparently desperate times do require desperate measures). I loved seeing all the “C’est va bien aller”s in people’s windows. I did not love that hugs and handshakes got cancelled. I loved seeing so many people out walking in the evenings. I did not love not being able to have people in our home. And on and on.

So here’s to 2021. May it be a kinder year. I wish each of you days filled with love, peace and belonging. A gentle spirit and curious, intelligent conversation. Laughter to chase away sadness. Drive out loneliness and ask for what you need. Onward.

New work!
I interpreted this from a photo I took when we were camping. The following two slides are what it looks like hanging on a wall, to show perspective. This is not my house ๐Ÿ˜‰ but an app designed specifically for this kind of thing.
48”x36” / acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas (meaning the sides have a depth of 1.5”)

New work

Image

New work. This one was a journey ๐Ÿ’ช I started it back in August and then kept putting it back against the wall. I just didn’t know where I wanted to take it. If you can believe it it was going to be the start of a black and white series ๐Ÿ˜… Anyway, it finally came together yesterday. 36”x60” / acrylic on canvas. #landscapepainting #greenpainting #forestpainting #colourfulartwork

I was talking to my husband yesterday about how I missed going out for a coffee and going to cafรฉs and parks. Every day feels pretty similar and the calendar is empty. Last night on tv there was a scene where somebody bent close to someone and handed them a drink and I was like *woah on the social distancing—and she’s not even wiping that down!* lol
I guess we adapt fairly quickly to what is required of us but I sure miss being close to people. I think some days people are up and other days people are like “what the heck ๐Ÿ˜ž”

I’ve been wondering if there’s a little something I could do that might spread a bit of sunshine. And then I thought of this: some nice mail. Pretty simple. ๐Ÿคท‍♀️ If you or someone you know could use some surprise mail DM me and I’ll mail them a note with a small drawing, a poem or a favourite recipe. We’ll see how it goes! ๐Ÿ˜Š #kindness #surprisemail #thingswillgetbetter

I’ve been taken with all the rainbows taped in windows and hung on doors as a way of spreading hope and optimism during this pandemic. I’ve read it began in Italy and has spread worldwide. What a small but beautiful thing.๐ŸŒˆ I’ve decided to keep a photo journal of sorts of all the ones I see. Right now I’m in Montreal and the rainbows I’ve snapped are in my stories. ๐ŸŒค๐ŸŒˆ Hope + love my friends ๐Ÿ’›
