So last Sunday was Halloween. A couple of weeks ago was our Primary Program and I told the kids if they sang really well that we'd play a trick on the Bishop on Halloween.
So we actually started singing time with learning a Christmas song for the Sacrament Program, then cue Bishop. (He was prepped for what was going to happen and I gave him a tie beforehand to put on).
I told him that we were so glad he could visit us in Primary and didn't the kids do a great job on the Program, and the kids would now like to sing for him, and if he thought the kids sang the song well, we'd give him a surprise.
Well after the first song, he agreed that the kids did a great job and out came the scissors. I pulled his tie taut and got ready to snip and he put up a big fuss about how his wife gave him that tie and I cut a little off the bottom. He told the kids he could still wear it with his jacket buttoned and that nobody would know it was cut.
Cue next song. The better they sang, the more I cut. We went on for about 10 minutes until he a stub of a tie left. The kids never sang so well. ;o)
Also, since it was Halloween, I brought a pumpkin and I'd cut out black construction paper jack-o-lantern face pieces and wrote songs on the back. The child got to come up, choose a feature and place it on the pumpkin. They sang while I snipped. The pumpkin had a pretty funny face when we were all done.
I also gave the kids the pieces of the Bishop's tie and anyone who didn't get one during singing time, I snipped the little leftovers as they left so each one got a piece.
This was definitely a one time deal, but it was so fun, and yes, they never sounded better!
