The Blue Dot

The following conversation occurred yesterday after school.

Me: What did you learn at school today, Reider?

Reid: I found out about the blue dot.

Me: About what?

Reid: We found out that parents see a blue dot on their kid's foreheads when they are lying.

Me: Oh, who told you that? I thought only parents knew about the blue dot.

Reid: Mrs. Langley (his Kindergarten teacher) told us today when the class was not being very good.

Me: Well, the secret is out now -- better not lie.

Reid: Nope, I would never lie to you, Mom.

Brilliant -- his teacher is brilliant! And I will use this amazing blue dot theory for as long as I possibly can and enjoy every bit of innocence I can soak up from our little man.

Play Ball!

Image
Thursday was Reid's first tball game of the season. He loves baseball, which thrills us to death. Baseball was always a staple in my family growing up so I can only hope Reid will continue to love it as well.

Reid's team is called the Hooks...luckily we didn't get stuck with the mascot Bees...yes there is a team called the Bees. His stats were marvelous for his first game. MLB might want to start scouting him now. :)

R.I.P. Thumper

Our beloved Thumper didn't make it through the night. Reid thinks he miraculously healed overnight and hopped away to find his mommy. I like Reid's version better than the truth...so we will just stick with that. So, the Edgin family is back down to one pet - an Easter bunny hunting dog.

Meet Thumper

As I was cooking dinner tonight, I noticed our dog, Allie, was playing with something in the back yard. Reid goes to investigates and quickly informs me, "Mom, she has the Easter Bunny!" Well, Josh and Reid immediately ran outside and saved this little creature from the brink of death. Reid instantly bonded with the little thing and named it Thumper. We have it in a little "home" aka shoebox for now. Reid also added what every bunny needs in his home - a tennis ball to play with. I'll keep you posted as to what the future holds for the Edgins and the possible addition of a pet bunny...I know you all are on the edge of your seats.

One year ago...

Image
One year ago today, my "Nanny" passed away. It is so hard to express the emptiness I have felt since that day. She was always there...a constant in my childhood and even into my adulthood. I realize she is finally at peace and free of pain, but I selfishly wish she was still here...in that white house on the hill, cooking jelly in her kitchen or faithfully reading The National Enquirer. She was an amazing woman who left a legacy most only dream about. I am a better person for being her granddaughter and forever grateful for the memories we shared.

Where does the time go?

Image
I will climb the highest peaks
and find a way through the
deepest valleys as I follow my
heart in pursuing my dreams.

I will hold the sunlight and
welcome the rain as my garden
of knowledge prospers in its
quest to benefit the world.

I will learn from the defeats
as well as the triumphs on my
journey because from this day
forward there are no limits to
what I can achieve.
