happy easter! :)

A fitting video I stumbled across whilst reading xt3 articles:

Definitely worth watching! A short 30 minute film - analogous to the sacrifice of Christ and the father-son relationship.

Motivation
Motivation is the driving force which help causes us to achieve goals. Motivation is said to be intrinsic or extrinsic.

Intrinsic motivation refers to motivation that is driven by an interest or enjoyment in the task itself, and exists within the individual rather than relying on any external pressure.

Extrinsic motivation comes from outside of the individual. Common extrinsic motivations are rewards like money and grades, coercion and threat of punishment. Competition is in general extrinsic because it encourages the performer to win and beat others, not to enjoy the intrinsic rewards of the activity.

Self-determination theory proposes that extrinsic motivation can be internalised by the individual if the task fits with their values and beliefs and therefore helps to fulfill their basic psychological needs.

Thank you Wikipedia for the above.
.

OK, not going any further into management theory >.< this reminds me of an elective unit in uni 1st yr.

Why! Can't I find! Motivation!

Possible Reasons:
1. Work
- Never 100% sure that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. I know - thinking too far ahead. But semi-worried that my career is in jeopardy - am I REALLY going to give this up and switch after all the effort in studies and "climbing the corporate ladder"?

2. Study
- Chartered Accountancy (CA) is a K I L L E R. Maybe if I enjoyed studying it would be okay :P Ok even the smarties don't like it. -.- I think I need to somehow fulfil "self determination theory" and just get on with it with less complaining and more actual effort.

3. Work/Study
- You see, the first two reasons are interrelated. I'm doing #2 because of #1. And #1 benefits from my doing #2.
And if i'm not sure of #1, what is the reason for #2?

That is my dilemma.

On to more airy fairy dreams-are-made-of-these stuff :)

Jobs I'd love to hold...
1. News Anchorwoman
- :P !

2. ABC Foreign Correspondent Journalist
- Chanced upon one episode of FC recently on tv and fell in love with the concept of bringing the real culture and experiences of people from various countries/cities that the program focuses on. Of course, will prob never gather enough courage to hold such a job :P

3. Kindergarden Teacher
- Hahahahaha the "easy, fun" job where you play with little cute kids (and a few terrors) :)

4. Fashion
- Vague heading is due to fact that I don't even know what kind of jobs this heading holds. Certainly not Designer, not Artist. Stylist maybe if I could be so bold :) And perhaps Merchandiser (: ahhh to dress up shop windows! eeek :P
- Unlikely that I will head in this direction as moral conflicts arise... :/

5. Interior Design/Houses Magazine
- To work in one :) Being on scene to see the settings/ arrange the "stuff" for photos or the editing :) I love flipping thru such magazines :P Calming sense looking at the beautiful pictures of houses and landscapes. Would be kind of ironic coz I don't think my house will ever look like that in the future :P Perhaps this is why I would love to work in such a magazine and dream (:

That's it! Basically options are all unresearched and semi-abandoned. Hahaha what do you expect from a procrastinator who's blogging at this moment rather than studying? ;)

The key to change... is to let go of fear.

hellooo!

It's been a long while since I've posted here. Lack of inspiration? Laziness? Better things to do?
Answer: All of the above. :)

Soo... What sparked this enthusiasm to start blogging again? A combination of reading other popular SG blogs (much as I hate to admit to being a fan), and some persuasion from friend/family :P

Also, inspiration! 2 weeks of travelling are coming up for me, and I think that's a pretty good reason to blog :P

For the next few posts this blog will be more of a Travel Diary :D I hope to master creating collages/nice border-ed photos with a tinge of polaroid meets SLR (hahaha I don't think I really know what I'm talking about).

Anyway -
First blog post of 2011, might as well be a traditional post with some happenings of my life.

I'm working full-time now. Still finding the most attractive way to describe my job. :P When I do, I'll post it up here.

2010 was a pretty whirlwind year for me.

2011 is about finding the right balance :) I've started it off at somewhat of a sluggish pace, but slowly picking up!

Today for example: a meeting with my parish priest just to catch up and have a chat, gave me some light on something I'm meaning to do over Christmas this year ;) I don't know yet how concrete that idea/plan will be, but I will work towards it and update along the way here :P

Finding fulfilment, and so far off to a reasonably good start!

I'm inspired to post something here after yet another long unawaited absence. :)
Of course my muse is B.S. (no it's not the prolific term). Which explains the "english"? :s

NOT the emoticons of course.

Anyway, Singapore vs Australia.
bwahaha I feel the need to compare them now since someone put the question to me not too long ago "are you going back to SG?" (as in to stay/live)
Personally I wouldn't mind going back to work in ChannelNewsAsia as one of their whatchamacallit anchor women?? Like interviewers/reporters but don't have to go out of the "office" :p
I always admire those news anchor jobs - perhaps there is just as much appeal to SBS Australia World News. :p I could never replace the short stylish haired Asian lady though. (*short not as in height, as in length of hair haha)

SO. From my most recent trip back to Singapore, I find myself reconsidering if I will ever choose to go back and live there for an indeterminate or even prolonged period of time. Maybe 2 years ago when I last went back, I remember thinking that I don't want to live there. I think what the reason was, was maybe the hype or the fast paced lifestyle - "go-go-go"! I do remember talking to my mum about one of the more irksome things that got under my skin though - discrimination. It was pretty darn obvious to me that trip back - nothing officially happened, there was no big event or situation - but I realised I was pretty blind before? Sheltered maybe. It was just seeing foreign construction workers/labourers sitting on the back of a lorry that kind of triggered that thinking I guess. A normal everyday occurrence in the life of a Singaporean.
But yeh, I started thinking why would they fine people in cars who don't put on a seatbelt when these workers are transported everywhere without a seatbelt to use. The above might not make sense :p

This trip back though, I kind of found a "balance". Or maybe I accepted the above - I hope not, but to hope for something like that would be idealistic too. Anyway, I realised that ultimately everyone is in the same ark (boat is so common!). The people I saw walking around, especially the ones working - whether at a construction site or hawker stall, they all seemed to be contented. Contented in the sense that they accept? Well maybe they don't, I'll never know - but still there is a kind of peace I think I saw in them. Singaporeans of course are most proficient in complaining - but really, if we wanted to change our life we would have gone ahead no matter the circumstance. Unless we were too "kiasu" perhaps.

Well each person has a purpose - job, career, family etc. So I guess even if it wasn't their "dream", they know in their minds what they have to do - and so doing it makes them at peace with themselves? :s Yes I might be getting to no point.

So what I'm trying to say is, Singapore is starting to look a bit sunnier to me :)

Do you know how great it is to people-watch?
:p

STEP 1: Locate Dad's old pint-sized beer mug (i think he used it to drink coffee) and WASH IT!!

STEP 2: Boil some water (coz anyway we are running out of normal drinking water)

STEP 4: Add sugar (lots and lots! just about 6-7 spoons of the size below)

STEP 5: Add freshly boiled hot water (coz we all know only freshly boiled water brings out the goodness of tea!)
.

STEP 6: Stir stir stir!!
.
Image

STEP 7: Add teabag in to steaming water!
.
Image

STEP 8: I think we need another one! (and of course more water) PLUNGE PLUNGE PLUNGE!

STEP 10: Voila! Fresh home-made icetea!
