Happy New Year 2015 | January in Review

We had our annual New Year's Party at the Jensens.
We had lots of yummy food and good company.

These little girls were so cute.  Brookie wouldn't join the picture.

Cute Oliver.

Image

We made paper snowflakes.
It proved to be a really fun activity.

Image

Then we made some New Year's resolutions.
It's always fun to read everyone's resolutions.
Mine was to take more picture with my Nikon.
I am sad to say, that I don't take my big camera that often anymore.
My iphone has taken over.

This was the first picture of 2015.
Brookie singing:
'aserrin aserran, los maderos de san juan piden pan no le dan, piden queso menos eso"
Such a sweet moment.
So glad I was able to capture it.

My cute kiddos in their Sunday best.
First Sunday of the year.

Brookie became a Sunbeam this year!
Can't believe it. Nursery was not her favorite.
It was nice that her good little friend Hazel is in her class too and that Steph is also her teacher. I don't think she would have survived the first few months of adjustment without them!!!

Image

Brookie and I continued going to preschool.
6 hours of preschool, 3 days a week is proving to be harder on Brooke than I had anticipated.
But overall, it has been a good experience for us both.  She has made so many cute little projects (like the one above),  is learning to take turns and be a better listener.  Some days are harder than others and both of us end up so exhausted at the end of the day.

Image

Scott worked a lot in January.  I think I spent every Sunday at Church by myself with the kiddos.
I'll admit that getting 3 kids ready for Church alone can be a challenge.  Thank heavens I have Brielle as my little helper...and keeping them quiet and reverent without Scott during sacrament meeting is quite the task.  We are surviving residency.

Image

Brooke continues to progress tracing her name and recognizing the letters in her name.
At the beginning of the school year, she didn't even know how to hold the marker.
She has improved so much. It has been fun to watch her grow!

Image

This is what happens every day after preschool.
Brooke is so exhausted.  There are times, in the middle of afternoon session that she tells me, "mommy, I'm tired!" I feel so bad.  She had been working hard!

Image

...and then of course, it seemed like she got every sickness possible from everyone else who was sick at the preschool.  My kids are generally pretty healthy kids but this winter was awful! They got pink eye, stomach viruses, colds, coughs, high fevers...everything you can imagine.
I guess, that is what happens when kids are exposed to other kids...so hard to manage...

Image

Poor Braden got so ill, he missed 3 or 4 days of school.  I had never seen him so sick.
Here he is giving me a little smirk, he was feeling a little better.

Image

Brookie with her cute doll.
That cute doll kept her company and helped her get through some hard days of sickness.

Image

In between, hard rotations, taking care of sick kiddos, my job at the preschool and trying to keep up with everything; Scott and I were able to go out on a date.  It had been quite a few months since we had been able to go out.  So this was nice.  We went to the Body Worlds Exhibit at the Leonardo.  It wouldn't have been the same without Scott telling me about all the organs, all the ligaments, all the arteries and muscles, etc, etc.  It was such a fun exhibit.  Our bodies are so amazing.  Afterward, we went to Bombay, that place is so yummy! It never disappoints.
This was definitely a much needed date!

Image

Preschool continued...

Image

Cub Scouts continued...this time we made some cute and easy bird feeders.
These boys have a blast to be around.
I have loved my calling.

Image

Brooke continued to be a 3 year old, getting into my makeup and getting my bright red lipstick all over her hands and lips.  When asked, what she was doing she replied, "I was just putting on some chapstick!!" Silly girl!

Image

More Cub Scouts activities.
They loved this one! Hammering nails and screwing in screws.

Image

Image

...and I was able to squeeze a lunch date with one of my favorite people here in Salt Lake City.
Heather has really been such a great friend to me.  I really have appreciated her friendship, our fun conversations and learning from her.  I am always grateful for good friends in my life.

December 2014 | In Review

Image

December came and went and just like that it was over.  As I look back I am grateful to be close to our family and that we got to spend that time together and make Christmas memories.

Image

We, of course, had to make a trip to see the Christmas lights at Temple Square.  It is always so beautiful and mesmerizing.  I always love walking around Temple Square.  It was especially great this year because the weather was awesome.  We really had a very mild winter this year.

Image

Image

These cuties all bundled up but it wasn't really all that cold!:)

Image

I was able to meet up with one of our favorite families, the Robisons.  It was fun to be able to catch up with them and see Rebecca's cute bump, then.  She is ready to have that baby now!

Image

We met up at Trolley Square and as we were walking through it, we found Santa.  It was Brooke's first time meeting Santa.  She was really shy at first but as long as I was close to her she was fine.  This Santa was nice but I don't know why he was also a little creepy.

Image

Image

The kids didn't seem to find the creepiness, but I realized that Brielle and Braden are getting older and the magic of Santa will soon fade.  That will be a sad day, but it will be cute for them to carry the tradition onto their younger siblings and make them excited for Santa.

Image

I love these kiddos of mine. Scott had such a hard rotation the weeks prior to Christmas.
So it was nice to meet up with friends on a Saturday to give us something fun to do.

Image

These two little girls were so cute running around the visitor center.

Image

...and then it started raining and got cold really fast...and even though this picture is blurry, I love that I am with my kids during Christmastime at Temple Square.

Image

Our awesome ward had the cutest Nativity reenactment with all the Primary children.  For the prelude music, they asked some of the children who play the piano to play a Christmas song.  Braden played 'Away in a Manger'.  He did so well.  I was proud of that boy, he has only been taking piano since September and he is doing so well.  Brielle also got to play, "Far, far away in Judea's Plains"  She did great also.  I didn't get a picture but she did play.

Image

Brielle and her Primary class were angels.  They were so cute!

Image

Braden was a shepherd.  It was such a fun night watching all the kids and really got us into the true Spirit of Christmas.

Image

On December 7th, Braden lost his first tooth! That boy has been waiting and waiting to lose a tooth.  All of his friends have been losing teeth for a quite a while now and of course he has seen Brielle losing teeth since she was in kindergarten.  So this was a much anticipated moment for this cute boy.  The tooth fairy came and gave him a golden dollar!

Scott got the night off on a Friday in December and we got to go to the Holiday Ball at the Little America Hotel.  It is always nice to spend time with this awesome guy.  The food was amazing and we got to dance for a little while until we were ready to call it a night.

Image

The couldn't pass up the opportunity to go see the Zoo Lights, since this is our last winter here in Utah.  We got to go with one of our favorite resident families, the Clarkes.  They are so fun and our kids always have a fun time with them and Scott and I have an awesome time with Heidi and Kyle.  They are always good company.

Image

Image

They had some Star Wars characters and we had fun taking some pictures.

Image

Image

Cute kiddos.

Image

The carrousel is always a highlight when we go to Hogle Zoo
and it proved to be even more fun with friends.

Image

Image

That guy behind Scott was totally loving photobombing our picture!!!
We got a good laugh!

Image

Image

It was a cold night but the lights were so fun to see.

Image

After walking around in the cold we went to good ol' MacDonald's and got some hot cocoa.

Image

It was such a fun night spent with some good friends.
Good times!

Image

We couldn't forget to do our gingerbread houses.
The kids always love this tradition.

Image

Image

Crazy kiddos.

Image

The Friels joined us in our yearly Nativity reenactment.
I love doing this because it gets us all in the true Spirit of Christmas and it helps us focus on the Savior. Brooke was particularly interested in holding baby Jesus or the animals.  She can be a very nurturing little girl.

Image

Here is the whole crew with Brielle and Braden as Mary and Joseph.
The Friel kids also took turns being Mary and Joseph.

Image

They totally get into their characters!:)

Brielle as an angel.

Image

It was a fun night! Grateful we got to spend it together.

Image

On Christmas Eve this year, we made empanadas.  Scott was a good helper.
They turned out delicious!!!

Image

Our Christmas Even spread!

Image

Image

We devoured those empanadas.  They tasted soooo amazing!

Image

Just looking at these pictures is making hungry.

Image

Then later, even though we were so full, we had to have some hot chocolate and panetón.  Two very traditional food we eat in Perú on Christmas Eve.  It is fun to be able to find panetón here and transfer these traditions to my children.

Image

We got to open one present on Christmas Even and we all got new jammies!
So glad we got to spend this time with my cute mom.

Image

That night, was a very late night for me and Scott!!!
But here we are ready for Christmas morning.
We felt truly blessed!

Image

In all of December we got zero snow, until Christmas morning when we woke up to this!
It was magical in every way and such a perfect present for our Heavenly Father.

Image

We had our traditional Christmas morning breakfast of crepes and yummy toppings.
It was delicious!

Christmas morning came and went and for some reason, I accidentally deleted ALL of the pictures I took of our Christmas morning from my camera!!!! Can you believe it? This is the first time this has happened to me since I have my camera.  I cried when I realized and I am still in denial that this happened.  So no picture of our Christmas morning, maybe it happened for a reason.  To realize that Christmas is not about the presents...but I will describe it as magical to watch our children's excitement opening presents and the feeling Scott and I get that we are able to make their little dreams come true.  I hope my children will make it just as magical for their children.

Image

Later on Christmas Day, Nya, Rob and Vanessa joined us for Christmas dinner.  We just missed Kemchu and Tasnim. Although we were happy to be all together, our happiness wasn't complete because we missed them so much!
At the end of the day, these family moments is where I find the most joy in life, sharing with the people who love me unconditionally and the people I love most.

Merry Christmas 2014!!!!

It was another successful Christmas and memories were made!
