the story...

Image
Thursday (the 13th) we got a call from the Adoption agency, basically saying that there was a birthmom that was going to be having her baby that same day via C-section, and she hadn't yet chosen a family. They wanted to know if it would be alright if they showed our profile to her, along with about three other families profiles. Of course, we said "yes, please". At the time, they had told us it was going to be a baby boy. She was going to make her decision that night, and they would let us know ASAP.

Friday we still hadn't heard anything, so I made Kenny call. I couldn't just wait any longer. They told us that she had given birth the night before, and SURPRISE!! it was a girl. My heart stopped right there when I heard that. (For the record, I was so excited before, when we thought we might be getting a boy, but now was my chance to have my girl!!) They told us she hadn't yet chosen a family, but there was another kink. The birthfather had been involved in the decision to place the child for adoption, and was on board at first, but once he saw her, he changed his mind and wanted to parent her. They were going to have a meeting all together with the social worker, and make a decision, and once again, they promised to keep us updated. At a little after ten that night, we got a call saying that they had made the decision to go ahead with the adoption, and they had chosen us *yay*. We told them we would head to Vegas first thing the next morning, and we hurriedly got ready to go. I didn't sleep more than an hour and a half, I was SO excited. Things of course had the potential to change, but I felt like things would work out.

Saturday morning I ran to Target and bought some onesies, a couple of newborn outfits, some blankets, bottles, formula, diapers and wipes. We headed to Vegas to meet the birthmom and the baby. We had lunch with the birthmom and afterward headed to the hospital to see the baby (the birthmom had been discharged from the hospital, but because the baby was going to be adopted, she was still in the nursery until papers were signed). It was a whirlwind day, and by the time we got to our hotel that night, we were totally wiped out. We went to sleep that night wondering if we would have a baby the next day.

Sunday we hung around Vegas all day waiting to be able to sign papers. Since she had been born at 6:42pm, we had to wait till that evening before we could do it. In Nevada the birthmom has to wait 72 hours after the birth to sign relinquishment papers. We met with the social worker and the birth parents one more time, and then we all signed the necessary documents to allow us to leave the hospital with the baby. We didn't get done at the hospital until 10:30pm, so we headed to my AMAZING friend Lynsie's house to sleep for night (she had taken Aiden and watched him while we were at the hospital).

Monday we all got up, and drove to Mesquite where Capri and I will stay until ICPC clears. (We'll be here a while, ICPC takes a couple days anyway, and they can't even start that process until we get one more child abuse background check back--this was so fast, we weren't even completely done with our paperwork yet!)

question...

As you all are probably aware, we are planning a giant fundraising yard-sale to fund our adoption. We have TONS of stuff, pretty much filling our little one car garage to the brim (not complaining, not at all). We were thinking about having it on Saturday the 29th because it won't be fully fledged summer time yet, and therefore won't be scorching hot yet. That's pretty much the next weekend we have free until June, and by then I'm afraid it will surely be scorching hot.

The problem is, that's Memorial Day weekend--Memorial Day is on Monday. Is that a bad time to have a yard sale?? Will people be out gallivanting in the hills, picnicking and such, or do you think we might have an ok turnout? I want to do this the best weekend we can so we have the best turnout. Any suggestions??

THANK YOU ALL FOR EVERYTHING!!!

a quick trip...

My cutest little sister had her second baby a couple weeks ago, so Aiden and I took off the first chance we had to go see him. He's darling, by the way, but I took absolutely NO pictures of him. We just hung out, played with Aiden and Chase, and held that cute baby. It was the best two days! The last day we were there, my mom, dad and I took Aiden and Chase to the Children's Museum in Salt Lake. We used to go to the Children's museum when we were little, and it was always so much fun. I was so excited to take Aiden there, and especially since they've since moved locations and updated all their stuff, I knew the little boys would just love it! (And I secretly wanted to get a little shopping cart and push it around the little store and pretend buy stuff!! Sadly, Aiden wanted nothing to do with the pretend grocery store :(
Image
We were right about the boys loving it though, we could have spent all day there. After we were there for quite a while, we had to rip the boys (kicking and screaming) away from the first little exhibit so we could show them the rest of the museum
Image

Image Aiden LOVES music
ImageOf course, when we got to the play kitchen Aiden went right in and made himself at home. He sat there and washed the dishes, cooked stuff on the stove, and put food in the oven. He was so cute and was having so much fun...then he saw the construction zone, and he was hooked. That's pretty much where we stayed for the rest of the day.

Image He waited patiently for his turn to run the big crane, and while he was waiting for it to open up, the smaller crane became available to play with, so he operated that one for a while.Image
The cool kids wear their hard-hat backwards.
Image
Sorry, Kimbrey, I got no pictures of your cute little guy, because the two little boys were almost never in the same place at the same time.
Image
He concentrated very hard on his imaginary job. He took it very seriously, and wouldn't leave until he was done.
ImageAnd finally, the big crane became available, so Aiden camped out on it for quite a while. He's not wearing the cute little construction worker vest and hat, because a nasty little girl stole them right off of him! She is now my sworn enemy.

ImageHe finally got his little outfit back when snotty girl left to go somewhere else.
Image Now, I really thought the big life sized helicopter would be the highlight of the museum trip, but that was their least favorite part of the day. They couldn't wait to get away from the helicopter and go back to their fun games. We could not get either boy to sit in the front seat to "fly" the thing, especially when it sounded like it was going to fly away. It was such a fun day anyway, I just wish we had had more time to spend there.

i love to see the temple

Sunday we wanted to go hang out for a bit on the temple grounds and let Aiden experience a bit of that. We are working on preparing him for when we go to the temple with our new baby, so we wanted him to feel the spirit that is at the temple.Image

We walked around the temple grounds and took a few photos, and then we went inside the visitor's center. It was such a neat experience for all of us, and Aiden loved it. I think he could really feel the spirit, and he knew it was a special place.
Image

He's learned recently about Jesus being crucified, and when he sees the picture of Jesus on the cross he gets sad. It's neat being able to teach him more about Jesus and about the gospel. At the visitor's center we went in and saw the Christus (the statue of Christ) and we showed Aiden the prints in his hands and feet. We had recently read about him appearing to the Nephites, and let them touch his hands and feet, and it was cool to show Aiden what exactly the scriptures were talking about, and see him starting to understand.

Image The sister missionaries at the Visitor's Center LOVED Aiden of course, and they showed us around the different attractions of the visitor's center. It was a really neat way to spend the Sabbath.
Image I can't wait till we all get to go in as a family!
