photography assignment 1b

For the "outing" we ended up last minute hiking up to the brown rocks.

Image
I was trying to get the empty space in front of the, so they have somewhere to run to,
but by golly Aiden is fast, even when he's towing Capri! I couldn't catch up fast enough.
None of the lines are straight, but I don't think there is a straight line in Moab as far as horizon goes.

Image
This one I used the rule of thirds, got the horizon line as straight as a could, and left some
empty space up in the top majority of the picture, because that's the direction she is climbing.

Image
This is my best one (I think) Capri is pretty far over in the corner, but I kind of like that. The horizon line and the "leading" line of the trail both lead right to Capri.

I didn't get them as far over to the right as I was thinking I should. They are looking off to the left, so I tried to leave some empty space that direction.

photography assignment lesson 1a

I did my assignment today, the last day of our extension week.

I struggled with how to find a kid that would be still for me and not feel the need
to pose or make stupid faces while I was taking some pictures.

I realized today that Aiden would definitely be a better option than Capri,
because she does not have to ability to hold still.

I just made Aiden get a blanket and lay on it while he ate his after school snack and did his
20 minutes of reading for the day.

Getting down on his level worked best for these pictures,
because of where the sun was and where everything else in the yard was.

(Yes mom, we used your yard. And please ignore the fact that
once again, I over exposed these. I'll work on it...)

Image
I wanted to avoid some of the stuff in the yard, but I liked having
the corner of the house, and the front picture windows in the picture. I tried to keep lines straight, which worked best taking the picture straight on. His eyes are in the top left third of the picture, and his book in the bottom left.

Image
I used the horizon as a line, which was tricky because the horizon isn't really a
straight line. I kind of accidently merged the tree with his head, and I didn't quite make the rule of thirds here. I wish I could go back and put him over to the left and down more. I left some open space in the direction he's reading.

This one is, again, overexposed, but anyway.
His head is in the top right "third" and his knees are in the bottom (kind of ) left third. I kind of like that the lines of the blanket are diagonal, because so is he kind of, but the top line of the blanket is obviously not straight, which wouldn't be noticeable really except you can see grass in the top left.

There's that one...
