Freesia Trivia Answers

1)  In which department at Target does Freesia currently work?

  • Freesia works in the shoe department.

2)  What subject is Freesia’s focus of study at Fullerton College?

  • Freesia’s focus of study is psychology.

3)  How many lambs did Freesia raise while a member of the Future Farmers of America at Sonora High School?

  • According to Freesia, she raised 5 lambs.

So that gives us a tie for winner between Mom and Fawn.  They both answered incorrectly that Freesia had raised 4 lambs.  So going to the tie-breaker, the committee to decide the winner of the contest has decided that Mom’s response that Freesia was trying to see what was inside the camera is the best.  Mom is the winner of the Freesia Trivia Contest.  The prize is that Freesia gets to live with Mom for her 20th year.  (Sorry, Fawn.)

Freesia Turns 20-Cha Cha Cha!

Freesia began her 3rd decade this month and closed a chapter in Ferkin Family history.  There has been an uninterrupted line of teenage Ferkins from 1987 through 2008, a span of 21years!

You’ll notice the eerie lighting at the beginning of the video…it was captured from the video when someone’s camera flash went off.  Also if you would like to rent Field to impersonate a demon singing “cha-cha-cha!” I hear his rates are pretty cheap.Image

Freesia was actually gone on her birthday, having taken a trip to San Francisco with some of her friends.  Ferkin Family News is still trying to coax her into doing a post on her trip.

Now, as we did last time a Ferkin had a birthday, we present to you a Freesia Ferkin Trivia Contest.  Any reader of this blog is welcome to submit their answers.  Please post your answers to the questions as a comment to this post.

Ready?  Here are the questions:

1)  In which department at Target does Freesia currently work?

2)  What subject is Freesia’s focus of study at Fullerton College?

3)  How many lambs did Freesia raise while a member of the Future Farmers of America at Sonora High School?

4)  What caused Freesia to stare blankly into the camera in many a Ferkin Family Christmas video? (Note: this last questions has no real answer and is optional, but in the event of a tie, the contestant with the most creative/funny answer to this question will be declared the winner.)

Joe Ferkin Trivia Answers

Earlier this week we had a trivia contest. Thanks to all who participated. It is that participation, in my opinion, that makes “blogs” a lot more interesting—the opportunity for discussion and interaction. It is the idea that it’s fine to look at content on the Internet, but when you are actually part of the process of creating the content (that hopefully has some redeeming value) it is much more stimulating. Anyway, I digress.

Here are the questions along with the answers:

Question #1: How old was Joe when he played in his first organized baseball league?

In the neighborhood there near Gunn Park (Whittier, CA), Joe had lots of friends who were playing little league probably from the age of 7 or 8, but despite his intense interest in sports, particularly baseball, Joe’s parents didn’t quite get the “signing-up” thing so he didn’t play until the age of 12. He tries not to hold it against them these 44 years later. As a reference point, Flint was starting his 7th season in organized youth baseball at age 12. Fawn came the closest with her answer of 14.

Question #2: If Joe could meet any living sports figure, who would it be?Image

Sandy Koufax was an excellent answer but incorrect. He might be Joe’s second choice. Nevertheless his overwhelming choice would be the former UCLA Men’s basketball coach, John Wooden, who enjoyed unprecedented and probably never to be repeated success in college basketball and at the same time emphasized the discipline and integrity of athletics. The picture to the right shows Coach Wooden with one of his players, Lewis Alcindor who later changed his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Question #3: Joe has 3 sons. How many regular season youth baseball league teams has he coached? (excludes all-star and summer league teams)

The answer is 19 teams. He coached 7 of Forest’s teams, 6 of Field’s teams, and 6 of Flint’s teams. I guess Fawn came the closest again so will crown her the champ.
