boxart What is your favourite piece of video game box art❓
AstroBob posted a topic in Community Corner
Hey Folks! With LaunchBox being the crown jewel of our collections, box art is the unsung hero making our libraries look pristine. Hands up if you’ve spent way too long hunting for that perfect cover for an obscure game 🖐️ and maybe even thought, “I’ll just recreate it myself!” (Thank goodness for our Fan Box Art image category 🖌️) So I pose a question to y'all: What is your favourite piece of video game box art? 🖼️ We’d love to hear your top picks. It could be anything—one that holds a special nostalgic meaning, a timeless classic, or even one that’s “so bad it’s good” (looking at you, Bad Box Art Mega Man 👀) For me, it's got to be the first Luigi's Mansion 👻 This iconic pose came to define the green plumber for the next decade. I remember thinking this was unlike any Nintendo game I’d ever seen before, and yes, I’ll admit I was definitely a bit scared to play this back in the day. But thank goodness I did! At least “Game Over” Luigi from the Spaceworld 2000 demo didn’t make it onto the box… yikes! 😱 So what are some of your favourite video game boxes? Share them with us below! Game on, Andy -

This is a slightly updated version of this template. Thanks to @Durty101 for the original .psd file and Marvinator2003 for adding the PS3 logo. Requirements: GIMP Basic image editing skills (no tutorial) Changes: Converted to .xcf format. Added snap-to guides. Added PS3 logo for disc-based games. Included font MarkPro-Bold.otf. Samples: Notes: Tested with GIMP 2.10.38 (should work with latest 3.x.x). Spine text needs to be edited in a text layer then rotated to maintain compatibility with older GIMP versions. -

Converted from .psd to .xcf with minor edits for use with GIMP. Many thanks to @damageinc86 for providing the original file. Requirements: GIMP Basic image editing skills (no tutorial) Cover: Scale image to 940px (height). Add as new layer under Cover group. Align cover to top and bottom of spine. Use Unified Transform Tool to snap corners to the guidelines. (optional) Use the Cover Features (icon/ratings/logos) if the cover does not already have them. Spine: Create new text layer (Text Tool) under Spine group (font = Mark Pro Bold, size = 20px). Rotate text to 90-degrees (Rotate Tool). Snap to spine text guideline. Use spine logo for specific game. Notes: You can watch the original Photoshop video here. Not too hard to figure out. GIMP 2.10 (stable) does not support non-destructive text editing yet, but it is an upcoming feature for 2.99.18 (dev). You need to create a new text layer every time you want to change the text content. Feature is now suppported in GIMP 3.x.x but letting the user add that object themselves to maintain compatibility with older GIMP versions. The outcome is very similar to this collection: -

Hello everyone, There are a few other Dreamcast sets that do exist out there however the difference here is the resolution is much higher and the set is uniform. This set will be part of a uniform series with other platforms to come that use the same exact jewel case style template along with same size dimensions and high resolution artwork. This set like all of my sets includes a uniform "Dreamcast" banner (both white and black spine games) when scrolling through your games for nice uniformity. This is all 247 released NTSC Dreamcast games following the no-intro naming scheme. When dropping these in your Launchbox build there may be a few boxes that do not autoload due to the name differences between how Launchbox scrapes the games and what no-intro names them. Therefore you may have to manually update a few images to your liking or use an alternate name within Launchbox itself. Also contained within this set is a second folder with an additional game that received an alternate cover! This should cover everything but as always if anyone notices any errors please let me know. Enjoy! Hey everybody, So I have completely updated my Dreamcast NTSC 2.5D box art. My original Dreamcast set was not very good being one of my first sets I did and it was in need of a higher resolution set for better viewing. I have gone ahead and redid this set with much higher quality images. These files are much larger in both size and dimensions and provide for a better viewing experience so I suggest you download these and delete my old set (or any Dreamcast set you have as per usual its probably the best out there). This is all 247 released NTSC Dreamcast games following the no-intro naming scheme. When dropping these in your Launchbox build there may be a few boxes that do not autoload due to the name differences between how Launchbox scrapes the games and what no-intro names them. Therefore you may have to manually update a few image names to your liking or use an alternate name within Launchbox itself. As always any issues with any images please reach out. Few other small updates too: Updated spine logos on both black and white label Dreamcast games for accuracy. The few games that came in the double cd/thick jewel cases are now represented correctly. Few other minor tweaks. Feel free to also check out and download my Dreamcast disc art which can be located here. (coming soon)- 4 comments

Hey all, Wanted to give back another set of art to the community since I have collected so much from others. This set is similar in style to my other set that I previously released for Dreamcast. Its a front boxart in a "2.5D" style. For this pack I need to make note again the jewel case is not my creation but has been modified slightly for my tastes. I also need to mention the creator of this artwork (pre jewel case), Wally Wonka. He created and shared an excellent uniform PS1 set with matching PS1 labels for perfect uniformity. I have taken his 2D PS1 front boxart set and have applied the jewel case to them. Also a shout out to SomeGeezer for helping with Adobe Photoshop Actions making this process easier! In this pack it includes most all of the NTSC Sony Playstation retail games. It is missing all the Lightspan games (learning, language, math, etc. as the box art is hart to find and I felt most people wont care for those games as is) as well as demo discs. Everything else should be included but I am human so there is a chance a few oddballs slipped through the cracks... if you do see something missing or that is inaccurate please let me know. One last tidbit, there is a different case to match how multi disc games were released. Hope everyone enjoys these as it brings a more cohesive look to your collection along with my Dreamcast set!- 14 comments

File contains authentic 3d recreations of the large black cardboard boxes that Ultimate games such as Knight Lore and Sabre Wulf used to come in. For those of you that remember the days of the old 8 bit micros in the UK, these boxes should be pretty familiar. I always loved the artwork on these boxes and that created a mystery about the games inside. I was not happy with the available art for these games so created these boxes using the highest quality assets I could find. They are authentic to the originals except a few that came in double casette boxes that I've converted those to the cardboard type. Anyway, wasn't sure how to catagorise this seeing as they aren't all one platform so I've put it as playlist media. If any one is interested I have 2d version here...- 3 comments

I found that the CPS2 system didn't have a very unified look to it in LaunchBox regardless of if I got the images from LBDB or EmuMovies, so I made a pack of the majority of the games. I used quite a bit of art from SteamGridDB and google and the logo on the "banner" is by Dan Patrick. I've included a .psd for the template so if anyone wants to make the last few games that option is available to them. -

No Filters. No Cases. No Effects. Box Art Each of these images has been adjusted manually - great care was taken to preserve the aspect ratio of the source material, and resized to within a few pixels of 546x747 while maintaining as much of the original artwork as possible. The artwork itself was sourced from around the internet, either through LB, EmuMovies, or a good ol' fashioned Google Image Search. I've been manually adding my own media to my LB library for over a year for things that aren't in either of the databases, so there's a ton of stuff here that isn't currently available through the LB Media Downloads. This is the "raw" version of my Uniform Matte Finish and Microsoft Operating Systems packs. Screenshot - Gameplay I prefer to have at least a couple screenshots for each of my PC games, so as I would look for the box art to use, I would also download several gameplay screenshots. Again, many of these are not found in the LB media downloads, and were sourced from a Google Image search. This pack's initial release contains 3,912 images. The only thing that's been done to modify these screenshots is that they were all scaled to a height of 720px while maintaining their original aspect ratio to maintain a baseline of quality and uniform size among all images. Installation To install any of these packs, you can simply use the new Launchbox Image Pack Importer by clicking Menu > Tools > Image Packs > Import. Please be sure your import settings are set to the correct platform and image type, and read the prompts carefully. This will work great as a simple uniform set of boxes/screenshots on its own, but I wanted to provide this to the LB community as a resource. Feel free to use it as you see fit, and be sure to check out my other work! -

Bonus! We've all grown up playing on computers with whatever OS was available at the time (for better or worse), so people may gravitate to using different things with their their own LB configurations, or maybe you associate a certain subset of games with a specific OS and have different Platforms configured based on that, regardless of what you're running now. With this in mind, I thought it would be cool to have some options for default media to use in conjunction with the other Uniform Matte Plastic set I created. Here, you'll find all the greatest hits!
