As you all know, I've been super busy the last couple of weeks and will continue to be until Nov. 24th. So, I figured people probably wonder what it is that I do exactly. Well, I can't explain every detail, because the list would be crazy long and then I wouldn't actually have the time to do what I'm supposed to be doing. But, I am linking to the webpage for the Convention I am planning right now.
Suffice it to say that I oversee and arrange for all of the logistics for the Convention. Through three staff members and myself, we invite, confirm and organize each of the panels and speakers. The rest of the actual Convention logistics are done by me. One of my major responsibilities is communicating with the hotels to coordinate rooms for all speakers, room block for attendees, all logistics for registration, panels, lunches, receptions, dinners, etc. I coordinate 25 (or so) staff members and over 100 volunteers to make the three days run smoothly. It is no small job and we get started in about March each year to get everyhting in place by November.
Last year was a huge event because it was our 25th Anniversary. We had President Bush and 4 Supremem Court Justices and a dinner for 1700. This year will be a smaller event with only about 1100 people attending, but the basic logistics stay the same.
Anyway, I thought it would be fun for people to know what kind of stuff I am doing and to understand why I am ignoring everybody until the Convention is over:) Thanks for understanding.
