What I Do

Image

As you all know, I've been super busy the last couple of weeks and will continue to be until Nov. 24th. So, I figured people probably wonder what it is that I do exactly. Well, I can't explain every detail, because the list would be crazy long and then I wouldn't actually have the time to do what I'm supposed to be doing. But, I am linking to the webpage for the Convention I am planning right now.

Suffice it to say that I oversee and arrange for all of the logistics for the Convention. Through three staff members and myself, we invite, confirm and organize each of the panels and speakers. The rest of the actual Convention logistics are done by me. One of my major responsibilities is communicating with the hotels to coordinate rooms for all speakers, room block for attendees, all logistics for registration, panels, lunches, receptions, dinners, etc. I coordinate 25 (or so) staff members and over 100 volunteers to make the three days run smoothly. It is no small job and we get started in about March each year to get everyhting in place by November.

Last year was a huge event because it was our 25th Anniversary. We had President Bush and 4 Supremem Court Justices and a dinner for 1700. This year will be a smaller event with only about 1100 people attending, but the basic logistics stay the same.

Anyway, I thought it would be fun for people to know what kind of stuff I am doing and to understand why I am ignoring everybody until the Convention is over:) Thanks for understanding.

Family Tree

Image

My 7 year old nephew, Isaiah, created a family tree (pictured above). It is mostly of his father's side of the family, the Clayborns. He did sprinkle in some others though.

For those who cannot make it out, it all starts with Isaiah (at the bottom of the tree) and then (starting from the left) his brother Ivrey (Ivory), his grandfather Claborn (who they call Clayborn, his last name), his mom Nomey (Noemy), his great uncle Jorge, his dad Al, his grandmother (Jaque) and his aunt Jule (Juli).
I have this posted on my office door:)

A Visit from a Bald Eagle!

Image
Image

Whenever I (Fred) get up in the morning, I take a peek outside to see if there are any interesting critters. When I first got up this morning, I looked out the back and saw a bunch of turkeys. Then later, as we were making breakfast and getting ready to go to Stake Conference, I noticed a big bird with a white head swoop over the lake/pond in our back yard. I couldn't believe my eyes, it was a bald eagle. It landed in a tree maybe 100 yards away from our deck in the back. I swear he was looking at us! Check out the pics!

I am so proud!

Image

I am so proud of my sister, Mimi (left), and my best friend, Paige! They finished the Tri Girl Tri triathalon in Napa together, under very windy conditions! This was Paige's first! Congratulations, you both are amazing and I love you!!

New Hairstyle

Image Image

Image Image

So I (Juli) need to get a haircut and I was thinking I might go with the look that Georgiana, the (former) Duchess of Devonshire made popular. In a word, HUGE. She apparently used "weaves" of horse hair to make her hair fuller, I could use some of that. Anyway, I love her use of feathers and other ornamentation:) I should also mention I am very much looking forward to seeing The Duchess. I know I was born in the wrong time, I was meant to wear big frilly dresses (although I don't know if I could live without air conditioning).
