here is a look at this past august {part one} ...
also on august 3rd was the sportsplex triathlon for kids and the small fry tri. the tri was a dream of my friend nicole's ... and partnering with american cancer society {kimberly and sarah}, these three ladies made it happen! over $10,000 was raised for ACS ... 180 participants in the kid's tri {ages 6-15} and 80 in the small fry tri {ages 2-5}. gary and i were in charge of the run portion of the triathlon ... we had wonderful volunteers! made it a breeze. can't wait until next year. henry and owen did the small fry tri part, which was a fun, laid back event.
{the kid's tri is an actual competitive triathlon}
it was a GREAT way to spend saturday morning - these kiddos were phenomenal.
and, these two kiddos were more than phenomenal ... they rocked it!
dinner on our porch the sunday night after.
cheers to a weekend filled with celebration, family, friends ... many memories and many thanks to my parents for helping with the boys that friday night during set up and bringing them to do the small fry tri part on saturday {as we had been out there since early that morning}! it was a whirlwind of a friday and saturday, but a great whirlwind.

other august happenings: the boys had their second round of swimming lessons. they loved it! owen really improved {flashback to memorial day, when it took him most of the day to even get into the water. so weird for him.} the boys spent some time in birmingham with gary's mom and jon ... they had a BLAST! they always take such really good care of them - they go places {the zoo is a "usual"}, eat well {and if you know me, you know i'm a little particular about what they eat}, make crafts {this time they painted coffee/tea mugs for us!}, and are treated so well. we are indeed fortunate to both have parents that live close by and are
always willing to help.
gary travelled to melbourne for work one week; henry and i had a little lunch date and went school supply shopping; the doggies spent a lot of time inside; bricks has decided he like to get food off the kitchen counter {?}; shelby, who has not seemed to feel all that great this summer, perked up a bit in august {thanks to a little rimadyl we think} and as henry said, "she played with a one of her toys!" ; a new sitter for the summer that we LOVED graduated and moved {sniff, sniff}; we had a cousins sleepover and visited "woofstock," auburn played it's first game of the year {game day pictures forthcoming} and last but certainly not least, were the first days of school for mr. henry and mr. owen.
henry started kindergarten on august 12th ... the weekend before we made a few notes on what he wants to do this year {apologies for sideways picture!}:

and his first was was ... as he said, "awesome!"
really and truly, kindergarten has not been {for him nor us}, an adjustment, more of a transition.

we really think a lot of his school {
auburn classical academy} and are just enjoying this next phase! all spring i remember thinking, "oh kindergarten ... i'll just think about that in august." i thought i would be super emotional. and you know what? i was not, gary was not, henry was not ... we were all merely excited. phew!

on wednesdays, henry has chapel

henry with our sitter that i mentioned ... that sadly graduated and is beginning the next phase of her journey.

brynn, we are so glad you were a part of our lives, if only for a few months!

wednesday nights are smoothie and peanut butter & cracker nights for dinner around the vaughan house.
owen sure loves his smoothie ... :)

playing at auntie shannon's one afternoon

for the last year we have participated in kind of a CSA, a CSA / co-op with a twist so to speak. on thursdays we pick up a produce basket from a local market. the basket is always stocked with organic, pesticide free, and sometimes {as available} local produce ... all at a reasonable price!
one week, squash and zucchini were in our basket and look how little this guy was ... i had to take his picture. he was just wittle and cute.

our little garden is hanging in there ... and we started some more plants from seeds for the fall and winter {a couple more tomatoes, lettuces, and leeks}.

we had pretty good luck with this in the spring, so here's to it! {thanks to gary's greenthumb}

racing on the deck after dinner ...

crash!
don't worry, he was just fine and actually did this on purpose.
