This is how my garden grows!

This was  a good Texas gardening year!  It made up for the crumby one last year, and it was fun!!
So here are the goods (not all harvested at once, but you'll get the idea...).
This box has watermelon, brocolli, and zuccinni(that didn't turn out:()

Image
Here is cucumber, spinach and cantulope in the back and yellow pepper, carrots and red peppers in the front.
Image
Here are my tomatoes, and on the back left I have climbing beans.

Image
Potatoes, beans and peas.

Image
Unfortunately there were quite a few bugs, birds and bunnies that thought my garden was yummy too.  I wasn't wanting to put on a bunch of insecticide, and thus lost more things than I wanted, but you live and learn.  I am still baffled that the birds and bunnies like my tomatoes so much!!GRRRR!
Peas were the first thing to come on. We didn't get nearly as many as I used to get in Idaho, but they are better in the colder weather that we don't have here.

Image
Beans were good for a while, till it got too hot.
Image
This was this Idaho girls first attempt at potatoes and they did pretty well!
Image
The kids favorites were the bitty one's in my second harvest.  Jason even named a few!
Image
Tomatoes just keep coming.  A little at a time, but that is just right for us!
Image
This was my best!! (apparently they were heavy, thus Megan's beautiful face!:)) I had never grown cantalope with success eaither.  We have gotten about 5 so far, and a few are about the size of a baseball.  Cute, but yummy!!
Image
 Aren't they pretty?!
Image
Gardening is definately my therapy, and I love it.  it has lost it's luster in the 106 degree heat, but only a few months now and I will be able to plant my fall garden!  LOVE IT!!

Spring Randomness...

This is a fun hike we went on in Balcones.  It  was beautiful , and made for a good day trip!

Mr. Turtle here showed up on our lawn one day after a rain storm.  A bit lost, he was ready to rip a hole in Grant when he tried to help him back to his home!  Interesting wildlife in Texas!  Turns out he was a snapping turttle and Meg says when they are full grown they can rip off a mans arm!  OOOOO!  Glad this was just a foot long!!
Image
Paige got to go get a makeover with some of her friends, and they had a ball!!
Check out all that blue eye shadow! Someone sure had fun with all that beautiful hair too!!

For Mother's Day, Grant worked all day with our good friend Jared Deaton to fix the AC in black Bessy (our Expedition).  This is rather humorous seeing that Grant will readily admit that he is not a mechanic, but the repairs probably would have cost more than the car was worth, so I was VERY thankful for his hard work!!  He needed a rest and was too dirty to get in bed, so this is where we found him!:)  Love you honey!
Image
Megan made this beautiful coursage out of REAL flowers for me!  She did it as part of her fundraiser for camp...YES, Girls Camp!!  Can you believe she is almost that old?

Image
We are so thankful for the amazing Mother's in our lives and feel so blessed!  I am thankful every day to be a mother and to have had the great examples of those mothers in my life!  Happy Mother's Day to all those Mothers out there!!

A Beautiful Young Woman!!

Our Megan is 12!!!  Can you believe it?  She is 12!!  and She is a beautiful young woman, inside and out!  Megan has those smiling eyes that make you smile back, and a fun loving personality to go with it.  Megan just had a family party this year, and I think it was a change for her, because she is so social!  Megan got to go to Six Flags the day before her birthday for her choir trip and had a blast!  Then we got to celebrate with her at home and she got to graduate into Young Women's on the same day! !
Image
Megan wanted 2 things for her birthday... a Vera Bradley bag,
Image
 and a water proof camera.
Image
The birthday dinner of choice was roast with mashed potatoes and gravy and for the birthday cake, brownies, with Great Grandma Grants hot fudge and raspberries.  YUM!!
Image
Here are just a very few of the pictures Megan took with her new  camera at Six Flags!:)

15!! Seriously?!

Blake had been asking for  an iPhone FOREVER, and did not pass up an opportunity to send Mom and Dad a messed up text to reiterate the fact that his old phone wasn't working.  Then, just a few days before his birthday there was a youth conference and, believe it or not, they asked the youth to bring their smart phones, so that they could learn to do indexing on their phones.  So we got coersed into giving it to him early.
Image
Paige and Jason helped me decorate his room.

Our Favorite things about Blake:
Megan:
When he compliments me on my clothes (which is rare:). He makes me laugh!
Paige:
I like his skills at wrestling and having him play wrestling.
He is nice and funny!
Jason:
He is funny and he is good at wrestling. He's a good big brother.
Dad:
Blake makes me laugh and also is a hard worker when he is faced with a task.  I also like that he can fix all of our computer messes.
Mom:
Blake makes me laugh too! There is never a dull moment with Blake around, and he is an overall good kid!  Love you Blake!
I must make a mean roast and mashed potatoes, because 3 of my 4 kids want that for their birthday dinner, and Blake is one of them.
Image

Stylin some of his new clothes...and shoes.  (color coordination is the thing, even though he is color blind!:)- this is a joke aroud here, and if there is a task he doesn't want to do, or something we don't want him to do, it is because he is color blind. Even though he may be slightly color blind, and although he's lived this long without any trouble, it is hurting his self image to think he has this mild ailment.  I told him he can just call everything "Purple-Pink" like Grandpa Hansen.;)

We love Blake and can't believe that he is 15!! It wouldnt' be the same without you!!

Happy Easter and Spring!!

The kids got to go to the neighborhood Spring Fling and enjoyed the petting zoo and Easter Egg hunt (that Megan says was just an Easter Egg "gather":)), and we quickly made our way home with their treats for conference.

During conference...
Guess who lost his first tooth?!
Image
Pretty exciting stuff!
We truely enjoyed the messsages of conference and the chance to spend the weekend quietly as a family.
As you can see, Jason still has this love of going shirtless...3 different days and all no shirt!
Superman!!

Image
These were our 3 best carrots out of the garden and they were mighty fine ones if I do say so myself!!  The rest of the  garden is doing quite well and will warant some pictures soon enough.  I picked my first pea pod the other day and am trying my hand at potatoes.  Yes, this Idaho girl has never grown potatoes, so we'll see how they go!
Image
Easter was pretty uneventful, and with early church we had to hide the eggs the Easter Bunny left after church, and of course I didn't get any pictures.  I missed family back home this day, but we enjoyed a yummy Easter ham and RS potatoes.  It is always great to reflect on our Savior and celebrate his reserection and atonement and are so greatful for this knowledge in our lives!
