I Can Only Imagine



I wanted to share a song with you all. It was played at my grandma's funeral recently. While we were in Rockford my husband bought be a devotional book and CD of it. At the time I wondered if my grandma would approve of a rock song being played in her honor. I can't help but bawl my eyes out now everytime I hear it.



I love this song. Obviously, it's about going to Heaven and seeing the Lord face to face. But I took some of the verses and thought of seeing my Grandma again. I lost all of my other grandparents before her. She is the one I miss the most.

Question Answered

I received this question in reply to my last post, and will attempt to answer here.

I'm curious (as I am with every believer) why you believe in the veracity of the Bible rather than the Koran or the book of Mormon, etc. After all, the Koran and the Book of Mormon (and many other so-called holy books) make the same assertion, that this particular book is the word of God. I'm not asking what is wrong with those books (as I'm sure that we both agree that they are not the word of God); rather, what is "right" with the Bible that makes it true in your opinion.

The most honest answer I can give to this question right now is that faith is what makes me sure that the Bible is true. My defense of the Bible is found within its very pages. Romans 1:20-25 and Hebrews 11:1-3 are some good scriptures to explain this.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things unseen. (Heb.11:1)
I said before that the Bible is the inspired word of God, as found in 2 Tim 3:16. When you and I think of inspired, we think of great authors, or musicians. Shakespeare was inspired. Beethoven was inspired. It's used in the Bible meaning "God breathed". It does not refer to the authors, but the words which they wrote. Therefore, the Bible is the product of God.

I realize using the Bible to defend it probably does not make much sense to unbelievers.
I may not have expressed it as clearly as I would like, but it is from the heart.

An Observation

I am no computer whiz. I am learning more all the time though. Recently, someone recommended the browser, Firefox, to me. I love it! I use it mainly for my blogger account which doesn't seem to work correctly on Internet Explorer. Today I made some changes to the sidebar and rearranged my links, and gave them category headings. They are lined up perfectly when viewed from Firefox, and not lined up when using Internet Explorer. I just don't get it! Anyway, bear with me until I figure it out.

Bible Made Simple

Recently, I watched a video called Visualized Bible Study Series. It covers very basic bible concepts which make the Bible very clear. I've been learning these principles since I was a very young child, and I even learned some new things. This study help has only reaffirmed my faith, and what I have been taught. As I mentioned before, I have been taught these principles since I was very young. However, now that I am old enough to decide for myself, I still believe it to be true. I was always encouraged to read the Bible for myself, and to follow along in worship services. I will share some of these basic principles in a series of posts.

First, I want to share some basic facts about the Bible itself. It is the Holy and inspired word of God, (2 Timothy 3:16) ,written by about 40 different men. These men lived over a period of 1600 years and could not possibly have known each other, or consulted each other. They came from various backgrounds, and classes. They wrote and spoke different languages. These 40 men do not contradict each other. Have you ever talked to 40 different people, and gotten the same story on any one subject? No, because facts get changed over time, and with different people. These men were guided by God, and therefore were united in their writings. Also, every person, event, and geographical location is in harmony with secular history.

Secondly, the Bible follows natural, or scientific laws. Creation is a perfect example of this. Some basic elements of science are time, force, energy, space and matter. The very first verse of the Bible uses these principles. In the beginning (time) God (force) created (energy) the heavens (space) and the earth (matter). I think it is interesting that God's first command was "Let there be light" Light is necessary to maintain all other life. Next, he created water and dry land. Then was vegetation. Plants can't live without soil or water. Animals came after plants. That gave animals plants to eat. People were created last. There is a logical succession to the plan of creation. It is also interesting to note that everything was created fully grown, and ready to reproduce. I can answer the question about which came first, the chicken or egg. The answer is the chicken, because God created everything adult sized. I look around my home, and places I've visited and see God's grand creation. I am convinced of creation, not merely because the Bible says it (although, that is good enough reason) but because the beauty and wonder of the world could not have "just happened." Someone very intelligent knew what they were doing. This could only be an all-knowing, supreme being. It makes a lot more sense to me than a big bang, or evolving from monkeys.
