Shed

So it's been 8 months since my last post. I decided to post about my project. We feel like it's going to take forever to close on a house. A lot of our stuff is piled up in the garage. I decided to build a shed so we could store some stuff in it and find missing things. My first plan was to build something movable and just move it to the new house. When I thought about the size that would be manageable to move I didn't like it. I wanted something big. So I decided to just build it the way I want and leave it for my dad and his future four wheelers. I started to plan out a 12 foot by 14 foot shed. When I went to start buying lumber they had 12 foot boards but the next size up was 16 feet so I changed it to 12 by 16. Most of the sheds I went to look at have 6 foot walls and low pitched roofs. 2x4's come in 8 foot lengths, it didn't make sense to me to cut 2 feet off my walls so the walls are 8 feet tall and I did a steep pitched roof to give more room for the 8 foot tall shelves. Which are cool, but suck to get stuff on and off. I like having the doors on the wide side of the shed instead of the short side. That way you can get to things a lot easier . I hate small doors so I did an 8 foot opening with two 4 foot doors. In the last few pictures you can see the small shed my dad had to store the riding lawn mower. The mower barely fits through the doors of the small shed so this one will have plenty of room. The funny thing is the small shed will fit through the door and into the new shed if you wanted to put it in there. Anyway.... that was long winded. Gabe helped me with a few things on the shed and we got the idea to start a shed building business. We are still looking into the idea, but I think it'd be fun. Couple more comments and I'll be done. The shed isn't done yet. I need to put some trim pieces on and paint it. Also it cost about $1,500.00 with all materials (excessive materials because it probably didn't need studs 16 inches on center) Also my dad had some shingles so that would have been the total cost with shingles but the actual cost for this one was about $1,3000.00. The reason Gabe and I like the idea of a business is because for the same size shed companies want $4,500.00 (that's for a tall shed, that's probably not as tall as this one) Okay, I'm done... sorry about that rant.

some old pictures.

This is after we primed the garage and part of the front door, the garage door was green. I put some sod on the right of the driveway where they had gravel and ugly plants. Just to the left of the driveway I leveled the dirt and spread gravel so I could change oil or other stuff. It worked out well because there was A LOT of dirt to move so i moved it to the backyard. The back yard has three big trees and the roots were sticking up out of the ground. The front yard had railroad ties as the curbing for the gravel and plants to the right of the driveway. Near the front of the house it was raised a little with railroad ties and nothing growing there.

I wish there were more pictures, but this is all I could find. Natalie took it with her old camera phone. This one is Drake and Logan's room before. It was yellow, purple and blue crown molding.

Our home is now listed

We decided to try and sell our home. Well to be specific I decided to sell, Natalie isn't fully on board yet. Here are the pictures we took to put up on the web. I'm going to try and find some pictures before we painted and other stuff.

We finally have software to dumb down our video files.

I've been waiting for good software to come out to convert AVCHD (it's a video format that our High Definition video camera uses) to another format so we could load them onto blogs or other things. Well we just bought Roxio Creator 2009. I didn't like Roxio Easy Media Creator, but I decided to buy this anyway. I don't know how much I like it, but I guess it does the main thing I bought it for. Here is a video of what Trevor Jensen and I did a lot last winter.
