In the past month, Greg and I have been pretty busy. Our deck in the backyard is still not finished but let me explain. With Memorial Day, the rain, our anniversary (3 years folks and we're still together and loving it), Greg in charge of Father and Sons campout for our ward, etc, chaos has reigned. We have havd a lot of fun though. Summer is very much my favorite time of the year. Starting with our deck, we have all the concrete done, the border walls up and are working on filling it in, leveling, and then we place stones. We are close but I am starting to wonder with how busy we have been, if snow will be here once again before we can have our first bbq out there. It doesn't help either that Greg will be in SLC this week for a work conference so not much will happen until that is over.
We have had a lot of fun though amidst the chaos. For Memorial Weekend, Jill and Mike came down from Bountiful and we went camping up Diamond Fork Canyon. We had the perfect spot too. It was all four-wheeler trails so we rode around, shot the guns, played fetch with the dogs and had a lot of fun. We heard of a lot of people getting rained out but it sprinkled barely at all and was super warm. By the time we packed up camp on Saturday, it was starting to rain so we jumped in the Jeep and headed home. Greg then went fishing with Jill and Mike and I took a nap. It was wonderful. On Monday, Greg's family has a massive family party in Lehi so we went and ate ourselves silly, then tried to play ultimate frisbey. Tried is the key word there. We were all so full, that we ended up walking/jogging around instead of the usual sprints and dives. We played for maybe 45 minutes and then we were all so dead that no one would really go after the frisbey anymore.
The following weekend was our anniversary so we loaded up the four wheelers (very romantic I know) and went out to Manti. We got a map of the area and headed up the canyon and hit the first 4x4 trail we could find. We were crossing rivers, jumping fallen trees, and more often than not: digging ourselves out of the mud. The four wheeler Greg was on has new and quite aggressive tires on it. Mine was in desperate need of new tires which meant Greg would get through the mud fine and then I would slip and slide and eventually slip right into the massive ruts a truck had made quite recently. Luckily we remembered a tow rope so we hooked them up and heard the great sucking noises of something being pulled from the muddy murks below. We rode up and found an incredible waterfall.
Once we got to the top of the mountain and played in the snow for awhile, we started to hear thunder. We looked around and there was a massive and very black rain cloud getting very close. We decided it was time to head back and see if we could beat it back to the Jeep. Not a chance. As soon as we headed back, it started to pour. It completely unleashed on us and the thunder was so loud. It never stopped either. It was a constant rumble but luckily, not much lightening at that point. I had a light jacket on but Greg only had his t-shirt so we decided to hide out under a pine tree and keep dry for a minute to see if it would let up. It only got worse and then the lightening started. We decided we would make a run for it. The rain was so heavy that neither of us could see where we were going but were so soaked and cold that it didn't matter. We were about an hour or so back down the mountain and that was such a wonderful sight to come around the corner and see the Jeep and the trailer. We didn't even bother to load. We just jumped in and started the heater. We were frozen, drenched, covered in mud and laughing ourselves silly. It was so much fun. We then realized that Greg didn't have an extra pair of pants with him so we had to go find a store and get him a pair so we could go to dinner. We stayed at the Manti House Bed & Breakfast and it was so much fun. We stayed there one night on our Honeymoon and it was fun to go back. We came home on Tuesday and went to Hale Theater in Orem with Joe and Lisa. We saw Singing in the Rain and it was incredible. That is one of my favorites and they did an excellent job on it.
We have been quite busy the last little while but having tons of fun while we are at it.
