Pajama Day

Since we have finally entered the "winter" of southern California, Evan has rediscovered and become obsessed with footie jammies. Most days, he wants to keep them on as long as possible. Usually I let him keep them on for a little while, but then, there are places to go and things to be done!

Today, I decided that those first few things didn't necessitate being dressed in clothing other than that worn for sleeping. We had to take some paperwork to daddy's office (no getting out of the car), and then had to get donuts (fortunately, before we left the house, I realized that buying donuts would likely require his feet touch the ground, so found the only shoes he had that would fit over footies).

So, this is the cute boy who I took to get donuts. Not sure what's up with his playning with his hair, but he did it when he was younger to help when he was nervous, or to fall asleep. I think it's just a comfort mechanism.

Image
The jammies lasted well past coming home from getting donuts. We found a few more decorations for the tree. The huge jingle bells were a hit, a loud one. Fortunately he's not a huge fan of the harsh loudness of these bells.

Still in his jammies playing rockets with battery-powered tea lights.

"Evan do you want to go with me to get the mail?" "Yes, but I have too many things, five things."

Image
"Yes, you do." One lacrosse ball, one racquetball (I think), two "candles", and one golf ball.

A little zoned out. Couldn't resist posting this face. Evan has amazing facial expressions. Sometimes I can't help but laugh out loud.
I think we finally got him out of his jammies around 1-ish (only because I was planning to go somewhere non pajama friendly, but didn't). So, he could have stayed in them all day - and he would have been perfectly happy!

The Birthday Boy and His Cake

Today Evan has his first formal birthday party (with friends - we've had family ones every year, of course!). He has been so excited about it and has been talking about it for MONTHS!! Four years old could not come soon enough. (although he's already talking about "next year I'll be five, and then.....")

I'll post more pictures later, but here are a couple.

"THE" cake. This and balloons were his only two requests for the party. Unfortunately, I didn't think to take his picture with the cake, or while he was eating a piece of it. He did say it was the best birthday cake ever (made the late night worth it) and that his favorite part of the party was eating his cake. He's the only one who actually ate a piece. Everyone else started (and ended) with cupcakes. Next rime we will definitely start with the cake!!

Beach Day

Today we spent a few hours at the beach with friends. We were expecting it to be much colder than it was. It proved to be a perfect beach day!

Photo Shoot Teaser

My good friend, Karlea, took some family photos for us yesterday. Her memory card decided to have issues, so we don't have too many of the family shots, but the gazillion of Evan turned out. So, here's a sneak peak!!

Egged!

For some time now, Evan has had an obsession with eggs. Not eating them, just holding, touching, rolling, cooking, etc. When we are at the grocery store and have eggs in the cart, he has to open them and look at them. I have finally convinced him that he can't hold them at the store. And, we try not to let him hold them at home unless they are hard boiled. At first, I broke that rule a couple of times and let him hold a raw egg. He's actually very careful with them. But after a couple of mishaps, the rule came into play.

Tonight, Evan pulled one of the hard boiled eggs out and was playing with it. Somehow it ended up launched across the room, cracked and rolled across the tile. I suggested he throw it away. Instead he  started to peel it. And drop the shell pieces on the ground. Before he got too far, I asked him to pick the shell pieces up and put them in the garbage. He promptly told me, "I can't pick all these up." Of course not.

Obviously I didn't push too hard at that point (neither did Greg, who was sitting right next to me). Then he proceeded to sit on the landing and finish peeling it so "we" could eat the egg.

This is serious work!

We've been egged!! Or at least shelled!
After he completely shelled the egg, he took one bite, then handed it to Greg and asked him to "find the yellow part." Greg found it, then offered the egg back to Evan and was politely refused. So, Greg was the lucky winner and got to eat the egg.

Then it was time to clean up:

He loves to vacuum these days! This is his vacuum. The last couple of times I vacuumed upstairs, he went down and carried it up to help me.

Next Year's Halloween Costume

THE costume came in the mail today. I win the "not-so-good" mom award on this one. I bought a size big thinking that it would be just a little big and we could make it work. He HAD to try it on as soon as he saw it. No such luck on making it work. It was too big to make work (and no option to exchange), but he looked super cute in it and wanted to put it on almost every day. Hopefully he will be as excited when we take it out of the box next year.

Image
For weeks, when people would ask what he was going to be for Halloween, Evan would respond, "Iron Man, the superhero who shoots bullets from his hands." Here he is shooting his bullets.

Image
He does make a cute Iron Man. This costume is great!
P.S. I was a little bummed to not have made his costume this year, but try as I might, I could not find a decent pattern for an iron man costume. Fireman, yes. Iron Man, not so much.
