| friday in the park. |
too busy/tired to string thoughts together this month, it seems.
the babies are being babies. growing like the proverbial weeds.
the girl, who i'd have put on the budding genius track this summer, seems to have fallen prey to the 3-year-old's bugaboo of reverting to baby talk to accompany her late penchant for tantrums and crying fits, which i am just not going to abide.
dunno if it's the discovery of the attention paid to babies or that she's playing down to the level of her more problematic pre-school classmates, but i'm being a real ass about admonishing her to act like a big girl.
the boy has learned a special type of peer pressure in kindergarten. the warning we continually sounded during his potty-training backsliding this summer was that if he continued to wait until it was too late, he was going to wet himself in class and everyone was going to know.
well, in addition to the nicety of having a restroom in the class for convenience and ease of access as soon as he feels the need, he has apparently watched accidents befall his classmates — and he does not want to be that guy. social awareness!
took the kids to the playground after school friday. mommy and i watched them at a short distance from the park benches. i remarked that it used to be that i hovered over their every move on the various and sundry pieces of play equipment and wondered judgmentally why other parents didn't do the same.
now we just want to catch a breather while they charge breathlessly headlong into their active imaginings.
here's where we turn around and they're grown.
