Join us for HackRPI 2025, an exciting 24-hour hackathon where nostalgic visions mesh into futuristic frontiers! The event will take place on November 15th - 16th at the Darrin Communications Center on RPI's campus in Troy, New York. This year’s theme, “Retro vs. Modern,” invites you to blend nostalgic tech aesthetics with futuristic design and cutting-edge innovation, creating timeless technology projects that solve real problems.
HackRPI is perfect for both seasoned developers and complete beginners. We welcome all skill levels, so even if you’ve never written a line of code, there’s a place for you here. You can come alone and find your team at the event, or bring a group of up to 4 members total. Either way, you’ll have access to mentors, workshops, and a collaborative environment designed to help you succeed.
Our event features high-quality workshops led by professors, sponsors, and RPI students, covering the ins and outs of the skills you’ll need to bring your ideas to life. Whether you're looking to learn something new or sharpen your existing skills, these workshops are tailored to support participants at all levels.
Don't miss out on the chance to turn your ideas into reality, connect with like-minded individuals, and compete for amazing prizes. Whether you're looking to learn something new, challenge yourself, or simply have an unforgettable experience, HackRPI 2025 is the place to be.
Register now and craft projects that bend time, transcending timelines to capture the best of both retro and modern worlds!
Requirements
At HackRPI 2025, the theme "Retro vs. Modern" challenges you to design projects that combine or contrast eras of technology and culture. Showcase how innovation can draw inspiration from the past while shaping the future - through aesthetics, function, or both. We’re excited to see creative takes on the theme, whether you blend the eras or go all-in on either retro or modern.
In addition to the main theme, there will be several subcategories available, allowing you to explore and submit projects that may stray from the central theme. These categories will give you the flexibility to pursue creative ideas that still contribute to the overall goal of making an impact with technology.
What to Submit
Submit your project on Devpost and give a brief 2-4 minute presentation to judges at our project fair. Once you submit on Devpost, you can continue editing your project up until the submission deadline at 11 AM on Sunday, Nov. 16 - so submit early and keep refining afterward! To submit on Devpost, register for this event, upload your project, and submit it to HackRPI 2025.
