Preschool Birthday Party

I got to be a part of Tycen and Shaylie's special school birthday celebration.

They are allowed to bring in a special treat to share with their class, but it cannot be cupcakes (likely because they're too messy). Last year I made brownies and this year they requested chocolate chip cookies :) It's nice when I get to make goodies for the whole class, it's one of the few times Tycen and Shaylie can eat exactly what the rest of the class eats (gluten free :)

As a side note, I typically try to bring something that is the same or similar in a gluten-free form and they are really good sports about it, they never seem to be upset they don't get what the rest of the class gets. It helps they both are in the same boat!

Happy 5th birthday, Tyce and Shay!!

Last Day of Va-Cay

Playing with the pirate toy Grandma Jan got them from Disneyland:

On our last full day of vacation, we spent most of the day at the pool. It was a very exciting day … Tycen learned to swim across the length of the pool all by himself!! This video was about the 6th or 7th time he swam across so he was pretty tired, but about half way through he started doing overhead (freestyle) strokes again. Way to go, buddy! We're SO proud of you!! (I think Shay could've swam across the pool too, but she was a little more nervous about the idea…soon enough ;)

Pool fun!!

In the afternoon, we headed over to Downtown Disney. We had such a fun time browsing through stores:

The Lego store was awesome; you could build a car and race it on a little race track against other cars, the kids loved this!!

We ate dinner at The Rainforest Cafe, such a fun place!

Aunt Mar made the very long drive after work (in L.A. rush hour traffic) so she could come spend some more time with us. Thanks so much, Marsie! We loved spending all the time with you we could get!!

I just adore my family!! We are so blessed. This was the perfect ending to a wonderful family vacation that I will never forget!

Heading home: we left Anaheim early to catch our afternoon flight out of Los Angeles.

I know I've said this several times already, but I just get so happy looking at all these photos and reminiscing about our trip…We had the BEST time :) We absolutely loved the fact that we got to see so many of my family members in L.A., San Diego and Anaheim! We will forever cherish the memories we've made with you all and especially Grandma Jan, joining us for most of our trip -- we love and appreciate you so much!

And to our big 5 year-olds, we couldn't think of a better reason to take a very special trip and celebrate other than your amazing birthday… one of the very best days of our lives. You have brought us so much joy, there are simply no words to express our love for you. We pray that the Lord would bless you abundantly with a life filled with love and passion for Jesus Christ and all of His creation. We love you!! Xoxoxoxo

Our waitress surprised our kiddos with this (huge) birthday treat after breakfast (say, what?! :) Thankfully, they didn't eat all of it…we knew we had a long day ahead and no time for sugar crashes ;)
You can tell by their faces, this was a welcome surprise for them :)

Our hotel was just a few blocks from Disneyland. Since their birthday was in the middle of the week and just after school started, the lines were relatively short, which was awesome!

Tycen and Shaylie were both given these special birthday pins and everyone who worked at Disneyland made sure to wish them a 'Happy Birthday' when they saw them! :)

We met Mickey Mouse almost immediately after walking in the park!

We're so happy that Grandma Jan got to spend this special day with us at Disneyland! (She hasn't missed a birthday yet!) Not only was it great to have her with us and make these wonderful memories with her, too, but she was also able to stay back with Alyssa (on rides she was too small for or in the afternoon during her nap), which allowed Scott and I to take the birthday kiddos on rides together. We're so thankful for that.

I know I already said this, but we truly did have the best time. I hope that Tycen and Shaylie will look back on these pictures and remember the good times we had together. They are loved beyond words!! Happy 5th birthday, Shaylie and Tycen!
