At around 1:30 in the morning my contractions started to get pretty uncomfortable. We were scheduled to have an induction just a couple hours later, but then I thought that my water broke. So we called labor and delivery- they told us to come on in and get checked. We headed to the hospital (super uncomfortable car ride), ha Kyle was definitely driving faster than he should have- but it was actually super appreciated. We parked the car and went in through the ER. They gave us masks and got me in a wheel chair and pushed me up to the 4th floor. We checked in there then they put us in our room- it was about 2:30 in the morning now. I changed and the nurse started running tests and stuff. She did the test for the corona- ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! That hurt so bad. I was in the middle of a contraction when she did the test (basically swabbed my brain)- and I definitely preferred the contractions. But anyway, I was only dilated to a 2 and my water hadn't broken, but Dr. Broberg said he still wanted to keep me. So we started the induction process (just a couple hours before we were supposed to.) He said that he was hoping we would have our baby by midnight. And at this point it was around 5:30 AM... so I prepared to be in the hospital all day! The nurse went to put the IV in and kept missing. It took her 4 tries and then she had to call in someone else to try and get it. That hurt pretty dang bad. Eventually they got it and they started me on Pitosin, to help regulate my contractions and stuff. The contractions were absolutely terrible- so I opted to get the epidural sooner rather than later. The anesthesiologist came in and put in the epidural. I did so much better than I thought I would do. I didn't look at the needle or anything and handled it all pretty well (it didn't hurt nearly as bad as the picking and pricking when they were trying to put in my IV). And hour after they gave me the Pitosin they came to see how dilated I was- I had doubled from a 2 to a 4. So that's good. The next hour I doubled again, from a 4 to an 8. Then 30 minutes later we were at a 10 and they were prepping everything to start pushing. It was only 9:30 am and I was already starting to push. Kyle was so good and so helpful with everything! It was me, him and a nurse for maybe 40 minutes. Then Doctor Thorpe came in and that's when I knew things were really happening. I pushed for another maybe 20 minutes and then there was this cute, purple crying baby on me. I honestly can't remember much of what happened, but I do remember thinking she was such a big beautiful baby. I got to hold her for 5 minutes then they took her and did all the tests and stuff. While she was over with the nurses I looked over at Kyle and asked him if she looked like a Paige... he nodded his head and that's when we knew we had a little baby Paige Margaret Henry.
8 lbs 10 oz 20 inches long. All the Doctors and nurses kept saying how big she was and how they didn't know where I was hiding her. She came a week early and I honestly don't know how big she would have gotten if we had waited another week- all I know is I was glad she was here and that she wasn't any bigger. After they had cleaned her up a bit and done all the measurements they took us down to the 3rd floor. As they were wheeling me down I got to hold little Paige and it was the best thing in the world. They took her to the nursery while I got all situated, then they came back and me and Kyle got to hold her some more. I was so tired... but all I wanted to do was hold Paigey in my arms. She was perfect. I couldn't believe that me and kyle had made something this cute. She was real. She was adorable. And she was ours.
