The Invention

Maddie's grade had an assignment to "invent something that could be used on a daily basis." They were supposed to use things that they had around the house and it could not cost more than $5 to make. Drum roll, please....

Here we have a "book holder." You simply wear the hat, place your book on the "holder" and you can read while keeping your hands free. Genius, right?

Um, her hands are just holding onto the thing because she isn't sure what else to do with them.

Here we have the invention in full use. Now if we could just get the wire to not wear a hole in your head. Minor detail.

The big question is, do I store this thing for 2 more years and let Gracie think she invented it for HER second grade project or do I throw it away and start all over? How good is her little memory? Then again, how good is mine?

"Scratchin" Workers

I picked Aeva up from preschool a few weeks back and all the kids were running around with hammers and hats that they had made. The were yelling, "I'm a scratchin worker!" I was then informed that they were actually "construction" workers but none of the kids could say "construction." Thus, they all became scratchin workers and were quite proud of it.

Doesn't get any cuter than that.

How did we forget about this?

We took the kids to Texas Roadhouse for dinner one night. We kept commenting on how much we liked the rolls. The kids eat them until they are too stuffed to eat their actual food. When we got home, Troy mentioned that the rolls taste a lot like cinnamon toast. The next day we decided to make some for breakfast. The girls LOVED it. How is it possible that I have a 9 year old child that has never eaten cinnamon toast? I used to eat this all the time. Makes me wonder how many other childhood treasures we possess and forget to pass down. This one will not soon be forgotten.

Long live cinnamon toast!

An old/new favorite

Our primary chorister brought in the game Jenga to play one day at church. The kids loved it and soon realized that we did indeed own the same game. Out it came. They also realized that our version of the game had questions or things that you had to do depending on which block you chose to move. This filled up several evenings with crazy fun.

Gracie as a tree?

Zurburts on bellies. One of the favorites.

There were also several other questions such as, "what attracts you to the opposite sex?" My kids wanted to know what the "opposite sex" was. When I said "boys" they immediately fell on the floor with disgust and gagging noises coming from their mouths. Oh how I love these simple years. All too soon the opposite sex will become an important part of their lives. I will postpone it as long as possible!.

DSI'd

The girls got DSI's for Christmas. I found myself watching them one Saturday morning. Not a pretty sight. All of them had their noses in some sort of game (Troy included). Maddie is attempting to hide her DSI in her robe so that she can't be included in those that are being accused. Believe me, it's under there. Aeva has even resigned to playing on Troy's old i-phone as she doesn't own a DSI.

It appears that Aeva's brain is being sucked into the screen. Or she's gone cross-eyed from looking at it for so long. I will need to intervene soon or buy myself a DSI as a distraction. Anyone know when "no screen" week is? We are WAY overdue.
