Reflections Contest 2011

Maddie entered a poem into the 2011 Reflection's Contest.  The theme was "If you wish upon a star."

I think they liked it!

This is a drawing they did in class.  They have a special art teacher that comes every once in a while and teaches them a new art concept.  She loves to draw!

The second half of "A day with Aeva."

Aeva, has been obsessed with the story of The Three Little Pigs. I told it to her one night while she was lying in bed. After that, it became a mandatory part of her bedtime routine (and if I try to skip any parts too "sum it up" I am abruptly chastised and made to go back to where I left off).

The other day I thought she might actually like to see the story for herself. How is it possible that we don't have that book? Anyway, internet to the rescue! I found a few different versions of the story on You Tube and let her watch them. When she was done, this is what she did...

Sometimes, when it is time for bed, I feel a little tired and hesitate when she asks for her favorite story. Then I see her do stuff like this and realize that every tired second is worth it. Soon enough I will have to tell my stories to Troy. He is cute but, not this cute.

A day with Ms. Aeva

So you spend a day with Aeva and you can do all sorts of funny things. Here are a few of my favorites...

I love this kid!

Rodeo with Grandma

Grandma Rett took Ms. Aeva to the rodeo while the older girls went to school.

I wonder if Aeva had any fun?

Hide n Seek

This little person will come out of her room in the morning, shut all 3 doors at the end of the hall, sneak down the hall ever so quietly, and hide behind the trunk in the living room. If you don't hear the pitter patter of tiny feet or the doors shutting...she will stay there for a VERY long time without anyone knowing it. She will proceed to spy on me and her older siblings as we get ready for school.

Image
I would say that she is well on her way to being a "spy." The frog is her trusted accomplice. I am lucky that she can still be easily tricked into coming out. For example, if her strawberry milk is about to be drank by an unauthorized individual, this requires that she break code and come running to the rescue of her milk. AND, If her sisters try to go to school without giving her a hug and kiss, well, this also goes against all appropriate codes of conduct and brings her running. How did she think of such a thing? Too cute.

Love Day

We had Valentine's at home this year. The girls love stuff like this. Drawing on tables, making cookies and name tags. What more could you ask for?

For dinner I decided to make lasagna. Not because it is Troy's favorite but because I had been wanting to make it and the day had finally come that I had enough time to do it. To make myself sound better, I DID ask Troy if he wanted anything else and he said no. See, I AM considerate.

Anyhoo. I started cooking my noodles, meat, grating cheese, etc. I then came to the important part of layering all of the yummy ingredients on top of each other. As I reached for a noodle, I realized that part of my noodle was missing. My suspicion began to rise when I saw this...

Image
This picture is about knee high on our fridge. The perfect height of one very cute 3 year old. Sure enough, she was found eating the curly little edges of many of my curly noodles. She thought sticking the rest of it to the fridge was an excellent idea. Perhaps she thought that she would come back and finish it later. Funny thing is, Troy does this with spaghetti noodles to see if they are done. Perhaps it is a genetic quirk. Time will tell.

Image
The we got to make, cut out, cook, and decorate our yummy Valentine cookies. Scrumptious if I do say so myself.

Image
The homemade name tags. Ignore the fact that the knife and fork are on the same side of the plate. My girls have not yet taken their fine dining class.

The homemade table cloth.

And the homemade chandelier.

An awesome day if I do say so myself. I am blessed with an amazing family. Some adorable, thoughtful and caring girls. A husband that is truly one of a kind. So many things to love!

Happy late Love Day everyone!

Oh my....

Few things can have such an effect on tongues... Aeva was not satisfied until we got a picture where her tongue was completely flat. The dang tip kept curling up. We tried, and tried, and tried again.

Image

Image

Image
Our third try was the worst. Definitely not flat! At this point she became a bit flustered and tried more of a depressed approach.

Image
Much sadder but with the desired result. Her tongue is flat! We did it. I showed it to Aeva with a triumphant smile. "Nah," was her reply. I think she was disappointed with the lack of blue showing.

Image
This was the best we ever got. We may have to consider sending her to tongue therapy. Does every 3 year old struggle with such maneuvers?

May Ring Pops never find their way into her tiny hands again.

Jazz Game

Every once in a while Troy and I make it to a Jazz game.

How come I never get a picture of the Jazz when we do?

Something We Like

I took Aeva to the store a few days ago to "grab a few items." I was mandatorily pushing the 30 pound cart...you know, the one with the car in the front that the kid drives? The one that makes the cart 7 feet long and makes all turning virtually impossible. The one with germs ALL over it. Yep, that is the one that makes Aeva happy. So, back to the story. We rounded the corner of the store (after an 8 point turn) and were making our way toward the check out stand. With no warning at all, Aeva yells, "STOP! I have to show you something that we like!" She hops out of the car and runs toward the sacred glass box that contains dozens and dozens of these.

Now, to keep the record straight, I am not a big fan of donuts. Troy, however, is a devoted worshiper of these little devils. I think he has passed the gene onto all 3 of my children. How could I not buy it after such an explosion of excitement? And how could we not pick the one with hundreds of rainbow sprinkles? They look awesome all over my floor!
