2010 Year in Review

In 2010, the Hawes Ward Elders Quorum had a wonderful year, as we worked together towards becoming a consecrated and more unified quorum. Our quorum is currently 90 brethren strong. The presidency for 2010 was Jacob Crockett- President, with Brinton Colburn and Ryan Niec as his Counselors. President Crockett lead many wonderful meetings, trainings and was always available to serve and participate in the quorum. The quorum has been blessed by his efforts. Brinton headed up our perfect the saints committee and put together a terrific range of activities. Ryan, directed our redeem the dead committee, giving us many opportunities to worship in the temple as a quorum. Our quorum had two secretaries serving simultaneously with August Goebel as the home teaching secretary and Cameron Lange as the communication secretary. Our goal was to increase communication to the brethren particularly those serving in callings taking them away from meeting with the quorum on Sundays. This was accomplished by weekly emails and reminder calls from district leaders for important events. Many families were blessed by diligent home teachers. Our elders home taught their families consistently with percentages between 76 and 87 percent. They were lead by many terrific brethren serving as district leaders including: John McDowell, Kevin Gibbens, Mark Fryer, Jeff Tenney, Ben Spratling, Preston Stradling, Chris Martin, Richard Stradling, David Fort and Clay Jeppson. We were privileged to be instructed by Trevor Huish, Dave Fort, Mark Fryer, Jared Asay and members of the presidency.

Our quorum served in many capacities this year and some of the opportunities to serve included helping at the Bishop's Storehouse, the Deseret Industries drop box, the stake farm, serving food at the men's shelter and moving families into and out of the ward. Ryan Niec coordinated regular visits to worship in the temple together in endowment sessions and sealing sessions. We were fortunate to serve at the temple with assignments like working in the temple grounds, serving in the cafeteria and helping out in the laundry. We also had a lot of fun and were unified by many quorum activities facilitated by brother Colburn. On Wednesday nights we gathered to play sports ranging from basketball and volleyball to dodge ball and football. We also had several family oriented activities like the Fathers and Sons aka 'the campout for ward males,' where we held an multi-event father and son Olympic competition. President Crocket and his son Crew came away victorious. Families were also welcome for other activities like a trip to Fossil Springs, visiting the Gila Valley temple open house and a very popular water kickball night including a cookout. The brethren also participated in a few events together including a trip to Gisela, post priesthood session pizza, and others.
