Seaside By The Numbers

Image
4-Times I have been to Oregon for a Burgener family reunion. This is Brett's second trip and both Macy & Coleman's first. This year's theme was Walk Like An Egyptian. (What? Your family reunions don't have themes? Long story short, about 15-ish years ago my uncle made a family music video to the Bangles' song "Walk Like an Egyptian" and decided it was time for a remake)

13.5-Hours it took us (one way..ugh) to get to the ocean. Lucky for us, my grandparents live in the Boise area, so we were able to stop and visit them on the way.

Image
5-Minutes it took Macy to trip and fall in the ocean, get completely soaked, and then develop an intense fear of the waves that lasted the remainder of the vacation.

Image
15-Dollars and minutes we spent on and in the Seaside aquarium. Aside from the seals and starfish, it was kind of a letdown.

Image
0-Number of times Brett and I crashed while riding our tandem bike. We got close a couple of times, but never completely bit the dust.

Image
45-Seconds that Coleman was on the Seaside carousel before deciding that it was totally not his style.

Image
4-Pounds of salt water taffy we bought while on the trip. To our credit, we didn't eat all of it...although we may or may not have come very close to doing so.

Image
25-ish-Number of times we walked up and down the Prom during our vacation.

Image
3-Times Aunt Sarah did Macy's hair while on the trip. As you can see, Macy thoroughly enjoyed every minute.

Image
2-Sticks of chalk Coleman attempted to consume in a one hour period on the night our house hosted dinner.

Image Image
6-Number of fake mustaches used for our "Walk Like An Egyptian" music video costumes...although we kind of look more like Saudis than Egyptians.

Image
5-Times Auntie Barb was referred to as the child whisperer. This lady kept 12 kids under the age of 10 busy for over three hours one night.

Image
7-People in our immediate family who came to the beach. (Michael just started a new job and wasn't able to get any time off.) Total family members who made it to the beach-38.

Image
9-Times Macy talked Brett into taking her close to the water only to run away as soon as her toes touched anything remotely wet.

Image
100-Grains (in millions) of sand that spilled out of Coleman's clothing when we undressed him after our visit to Cannon Beach. That boy LOVES the sand.

Image
8-Shots taken to get this somewhat acceptable family picture at Cannon Beach.

5-Years remaining until our next trip to the beach. We'll see everyone in 2016!

Interview With A 3.5 Year Old

Image

Macy, how old is Mommy?
10
And Daddy?
Umm...6
And Baby Coleman?
8
So Coleman is older than Daddy?
Yeah, but Daddy is bigger.

What makes Mommy happy?
When you play with me.
What makes Daddy happy?
TV...and climbing trees.
What makes you happy?
Playing with you in my room.

What does Mommy do after you go to sleep?
You go in your room and read grown up books.
What does Daddy do after you go to sleep?
Goes to bed.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
A grown up.

What's your favorite toy?
My Babes. (Baby, her pink bunny).

What's your favorite song?
Home. (By Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros)

What's your favorite game to play?
Spin the Bottle. (Okay, this warrants explaining. In one of her Arthur books, Francine keeps asking Arthur to play spin the bottle...I'm pretty sure she has absolutely no idea what the game entails.)

What should we do tomorrow?
I know! Let's go to the splash pad...and then Ikea. (A girl after my own heart.)
