October Mash-Up

October has been busy. So busy that I waited until the very last day of the month to try and post everything we've been up to. Rather than group all of these fun memories into several organized specific posts, you're getting a mash-up of all things October. Because I'm lazy. And busy. But mostly lazy.

Image
Started the month off watching Conference. These kids may look like reverent little angels, but don't be fooled by appearances.

Image
I think we heard a total of one-half of a talk. Quiet pages don't keep my kids quiet for long. At least with General Conference we get to be disruptive in the comfort of our own home. We only lasted 32 minutes at Stake Conference a few weeks later...and that included the 5 minute walk to and from our car.

Image
Macy and I went horse riding with the young women. First time for both of us on a "real" horse (as in one that wasn't tied up and walking around in a circle.)

Image
Celebrated my sister Sarah's graduation from Taylor Andrew's cosmetology program at Cotton Bottom. Holla! She is now official, so if you're looking for an awesome hair stylist in the SLC area, let me know. (And yes, CB's garlic burgers are THAT good.)

Image
Made lots of fun Halloween treats.

Image

Image
Why we see it necessary to make more food during a holiday month where candy and other junk food is readily available at every turn is beyond me.

Image
Took the kids to a pumpkin patch for some pumpkin picking fun.

Image

Image
Contrary to the pictures, both kids ended up picking those mini pumpkins that fit in the palm of your hand. I think they liked the fact that they could carry them by themselves.

Image
Carved said pumpkins.

Image
3 1/2 year old with two sharp objects and minimal supervision? Totally safe. We rock at parenting.

Image
Coleman was very helpful throughout the entire process.

Coleman's face in this one cracks me up.

Got to watch Macy's preschool Halloween program. Total quality entertainment.

Macy as Barbie (costume #1)

Mummy juice boxes we made for her preschool party.

Took the kids to the local rec center's spooktackular.

Trunk or Treat night.

I love Coleman's costume. Every time we put him in it he would roar like a dragon. I wish I would have got a video of him walking in it. We probably should have dressed him up like Frankenstein though. With his outstretched arms and shuffle walk he would have been totally legit.

Image
Macy as Belle (costume #2)

Image
Brett and me in our costumes. Apparently Wayne and Garth are totally unrecognizable by anyone under the age of 25 or over the age of 55. We got a lot of weird looks.

Image
SHWING!

Image
Taking the kids trick or treating on Halloween night. (Because they didn't get enough candy at the 8 other parties/activities we took them to.)

Image
Macy as Thumbelina (costume #3) This girl could totally be a Hollywood celeb...I'm pretty sure she didn't wear the same costume twice, (thank you hand-me-downs) and we went to A LOT of things that required dressing up.

There we go. October is now accounted for. Stay tuned for November!

Look who's finally got the walking thing down...

Garage Issues

Nothing makes Brett happier than this...

Image
...seeing our two piece of crap cars nestled side by side in our garage, safe from sprinklers, snow, rain, and anything else that might threaten to cause damage to the already beat-up bodies of our vehicles. (And when I say nothing makes him happier, I almost literally mean it. I am pretty sure he mentioned how glad he was to have both cars in the garage AT LEAST four times today...in the last hour.)

That being said, nothing makes me angrier than this...

Image
...no mistake, it's the same picture. But seriously very few things make me angrier (people who don't understand the art of merging, paying obscene amounts of money to register cars in Utah every year, student loans) than seeing these two cars parked in our garage at the same time.

Allow me to explain.

I get it. Cars go in garages. If you can't fit your car in your garage because your stuff is in the way then you probably have too much stuff. However, our garage is not a 2-car garage. It's more like a 1.75 car garage. You can technically fit two cars in it, but it leaves literally no room for anyone, let alone someone + two kids and a diaper bag and purse to get in either car. When Brett successfully manages to squeeze both of our cars into our garage, I have to shimmy sideways down one side of the car, take a few steps, then shimmy back up the other side of the car and attempt to squeeze into the driver's seat, back the car out of the not 2-car garage, then run back inside and grab the kids and our gear before I can take off.

And that's if I'm lucky. Occasionally, due to the placement of the two cars there isn't enough room to open the driver side door far enough to get in, so I am forced to climb in on the passenger side and crawl across into the drivers seat.

My neighbors probably think I'm crazy.

But, it makes Brett happy. Thank goodness he parks his car at the train station all week, or we'd have some serious issues going on.
