Our Pretty Princess

Every day life with a two year old has been a little challenging...
We are now in the why? stage...and the I don't want to! stage...now we understand a little more why they call these the terrible twos.

Image
Sophie is just shy one month of being two and a half.  She seems to be going a few inches every time I stop to look at her.   She is a sweet little girl but very head strong at times like any two and half year old.

She loves playing outside and has discovered bugs which she is not too fond of but we've reassured her that she is bigger than the bugs and can squash them and they will not hurt her.  Also if she wants to play outside she will have to ignore them.  She loves swinging this summer we hope to have her swinging on the big girl swing all the time..so far she has sat on it a couple of times.   She likes climbing and sliding at the park and still enjoys riding in the jogging stroller while my runs.  The swimming pool and sandbox will be favorites this summer.

She enjoys singing along with her CD's and mommy and daddy in the car.  Every once in awhile she will start belting out a song randomly walking around the house.  Some of her new favorites are Winnie the Pooh, I've got the Joy Joy Joy down in my heart, I've got Peace like a River, This little light of mine, He's got the Whole World in his Hands, Hippo in the Bathtub and a few others.

She is a great snuggler and loves to give hugs and kisses and say "I love you" or "love you too"  She is also a very polite little girl who uses the words, "Please", "thank you", "your welcome"

Her vocabulary has expanded by about 40 words and now she is piecing together a ton of sentences and using I in the proper places rather than me a little more often.  Her daddy says she talks a lot just like her Mommy...he's probably right :)

She's really into princesses right now..we've borrowed Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, the Princess and the Frog, and Tangled from the library over the winter and she loves every single one of them.

She likes to sit on her potty and read books, still only an accident every now and again...so the big girl underwear we will probably start in a week or two.

She loves Cheese, Butter Toast (peanut butter toast), and bananas.

She dislikes having her face and hair washed, her hair dried.  She is just ok with brushing her teeth.  She really does not like bugs or car washes....that's right she freaks out on both of these things.  Oh and did I mention she hates the word "no".  Haha...too bad it's one of our favorite words..

In about four to six weeks we will be having her big girl furniture/bed delivered. So wish us luck on that.  I think she will do okay with it since she's slept in big girl beds at her grandparents houses.

Austin's First Piano Recital

Image

Sunday we drove down to the University of Dayton for our oldest nephew Austin's first piano recital.   He has been taking lessons for about two years now and this was his first public performance so both sets of grandparents and one of Eric's siblings and her husband and the three of us were present.

He had one song he played.  He approached the stage and sat very properly at the piano as he played.  It was wonderful.  Hard to believe he is old enough to be doing these sorts of activities already but I guess he's grown up while we weren't looking.

Great Job Austin.   Uncle Bob, Aunt Stephanie and Sophie are so proud of your hard work.. Looking forward to more performances!!

Saturday in Delaware

This past weekend we had Daddy's family to our house and the weather was beautiful.  We took them to Amato's Pizza and all three kids ate a ton of pizza.  We also had some green beers since it was St. Patrick's day after all..
Image
A couple hours later we headed to the YMCA for some swimming.  Everyone had a blast including the parents and the grandparents.  Even Poppy did the water slide twice.

After swimming for an hour Sophie took a nap while the boys played quietly.  Then after nap/rest time they enjoyed playing in the backyard while Uncle Bob and Aunt Stephanie prepared dinner on the grill.

What a great way to spend a Saturday.

Looking More Like Spring...

It's been a wonderful two weeks weather wise here in Ohio.  Lots of warm sunny days to play outside.

Two weekend's ago Sophie got the opportunity to play outside with Daddy and Papaw at Mamaw and Papaw's house on her swing set and in the yard and had a blast.  Unfortunately that was the weekend Mommy and Daddy got sick so we didn't get to enjoy it nearly as much as we would have liked to.

Build A Bear...

Recently we took Sophie to build a bear to pick out a stuffed animal to make and dress since she went two weeks without any potty accidents.

She picked out a multicolored bunny....

Then they wrote her name on the tag in case the bunny ever gets lost.

Then she picked out her little heart and gave it a kiss...

Then the nice lady stuffed her for us.....

Daddy and Sophie gave her a bath and a hair combing......

Next we picked out her clothes...which was overwhelming for me let alone a two year old....

Image

She of course needed a pair of underwear...since that was the reason we were here to begin with.....

So Hello Kitty undies it is...

Then a pink tutu...

And a princess shirt....

Last but not least ballerina slippers....

And her name is....Jelly Bean

What a fun filled day.  And we are still going strong on the potty...only a few accidents..and our new reward is jelly beans :)

Survival of the Fittest

So the last few weeks have been a bit of a whirl wind in the Herbert Household....

A three weeks ago Monday Daddy left the house shortly after 430 am to fly to Cancun for a sales conference.  Note the week before Sophie and Daddy were both really congested and Daddy even went to the doctor on Saturday for meds for his sinus infection.   At about 5:30 I arose to start a very busy and hectic week.  At 6:15 I awakened Sophie to hear her coughing like crazy.  Once she had some water she was fine.  Rush rush rush and off to the sitter and work we went by 7:30 I was at work trying to function because I was all congested now.  I decided I would never survive the week if I didn't go get some meds for my sinus infection.  So after work I stopped at the doctor and indeed a sinus infection.  Off to get Sophie at Suzanne's, to the pharmacy and home for naps...that's right I said naps...cause I needed to lie down for an hour even though I did not sleep.  At about 3 Sophie awakened from her nap and mamaw and papaw were here to help entertain her for a few hours...thank goodness.  At about 7 they took off and we got into our jammies and had girls movie night until about 7:45...then off to bed Sophie went.

Tuesday Morning was better.  I slept descent due to my sinus infection knocking me out and so did Sophie...by 7:30 she was at the sitter and I was at work.   At 1230 I picked her up and she had been complaining her ears were hurting her...so I decided to take her to the doctor thinking her eating habits had been a little off and due to previous colds causing ear infections I thought I'd better get her checked up.   Found out she has a iritated throat and more molars causing her gums to be inflammed.  No wonder it's hard for her to chew.   So we got back home at about 4:30 after stopping at Walmart for yogart, juice, and applesauce and a princess potty doll which she talked me into buying.   She managed to eat a peanut butter sandwich and some yogurt.   The rest of the evening we played with her doll, I cleaned up the kitchen and we played in the basement, took a bath and off to bed she went by 7:30 and I was in bed at 9 after chatting with Daddy on Skype.

Wednesday Morning Sophie was really clinging to me on the drop off to Suzanne's I think she is missing Daddy and her normal morning routine...I concur.  So about three hours into my morning I get a phone call saying she'd thrown up twice.  So I left work and went to get her.  Seems she gaged on all that awesome snot that's been running down her irritated throat.  So on the way home she fell asleep in the car and I took her straight upstairs for nap.  Papaw joined us for few hours today and Sophie seemed to be better so I don't think it was a flu bug..

Thursday Morning, let's just say we made it...and I knew and she knew Daddy would be home at the end of the day.

All in all we survived the week.  We always do..just a few glitches along the way and some really great snuggling.  So glad Daddy is back home with us and hope we don't have to do this again anytime real soon.

Once Daddy returned home he was not feeling all that great so the next four days we lied low....then that Tuesday evening Sophie started screaming her head off so we both took off running upstairs there she was covered in her own....well let's just say she had the flu....this started at about 8:30 that evening and did not stop until about 3:30 am the next morning.  Daddy was on laundry duty, and Mommy was on clean Sophie up and change jammies duty along with both of us comforting her.  Some where in the mix she got sick on me so a shower was required...all and all we both worked as a team and stayed calm.   Daddy headed off to work Wednesday morning while I stayed home to comfort Sophie and to sanitize the house from top to bottom.   Note: Best part of this was she fell asleep on me Wednesday afternoon and laid on me for three hours...makes me miss the real little stage.

Five Days went by and Bob and I thought we'd escaped the germs so since everyone was well we headed to Urbana on Saturday to spend some time with my parents.   Well we were wrong on escaping the germs....I started in with it Saturday evening around 8:30 and hugged the porcelain for nearly 8 hours...it was awful...right as I had calmed down Sophie was waking up right around 6:30 am so Bob was going to get up with her so I could sleep and then all of a sudden he was making a mad dash to the bathroom and he was back and forth for nearly 8 hours with it as well.....luckily I was able to wake my loving parents out of bed for assistance because we were both down for the count...it was awful...

Sophie however had a great time eating snacks, playing outside and watching movies with her grandparents.  By 4:30 we decided we should attempt to make it home so I drove and Sophie and Bob relaxed.  When we got home we put nothing away....just laid down...got up to make her a PB Sandwich and a Banana and get her jammies

We have survived all of this but are hoping that the storm of germs has passed and that Mamaw and Papaw do not get sick... We would like to thank them for taking care of Sophie and us when we were at are worst....and I think that has been our worst together since we met 10 years ago and have been married almost six.  We've been sick separately but not at the same time.

Here's to the warm weather and spring!!!
