Gentle Hour
Here is something I made. This is a song called Gentle Hour and it is a cover of a cover. My version of the song is definitely based on the 2009 Yo La Tengo version (which I love love love and love) on the Dark Was the Night AIDS benefit album. The original was by Peter Gutteridge and was released in 1993 by Snapper or possibly The Clean (the internet seems unclear on this point).

The Weekly Wednesday Something #2: Talking to Al about Jesus Episode 1
The Something this week is a webisode! I hope you enjoy...play it loud...
[Sad Announcement for my millions of fans: This is the 2nd and final Weekly Wednesday Something. Weekly is just not realistic for me.]
[Happy Announcement for my millions of fans: Coming soon...The Fortnightly Friday Something!]
[And if that doesn't work out we might see the premiere of The Monthly Monday Something...]

Time-flying blues
Man. I can't believe February is almost over. I need to buy a watch.
Oh WAIT A SECOND! There is a WATCH right HERE on my WRIST! Hmm...I'm
staring at it, and it's not helping. Time is still flying.
Knock-y-knock-knock-knock
Hmm. Haven't done an awful Knock-knock joke in a long time. So here's one!
Knocker: KNOCK KNOCK!
Knockee: Who's there?
Knocker: BANANA!
Knockee: What? What do you mean? Who is this?
Knocker: KNOCK KNOCK!
Knockee: Look, I don't know who you are but...
Knocker: BANANA!
Knockee: Listen I don't know what kind of game you're playing but if you don't identify yourself...
Knocker: KNOCK KNOCK!
Knockee: ...I'm going to call the police.
Knocker: ORANGE!
Knockee: Come again?
Knocker: ORANGE YOU GLAD I DIDN'T SAY BANANA!
Knockee: In no way does a talking orange freak me out less than a talking banana.
Knocker: KNOCK KNOCK!
Knockee: Who's there?

Hee hee. I amuse myself. And I'll be here all week folks! Ba-dum-bum. Thank you! Thank you!
The Weekly Wednesday Something #1: Building the Garage
Yeah, I'm setting some vague creative goals. We will see how it works out. The idea is to try to focus in and each week finish SOMETHING from one of my myriad half-started projects.
The inaugural SOMETHING this week is a poem. Most of this stuff is going to be music but we'll start off all kinda quiet-like. I'm not pretending to be a poet (or much of a musician, for that matter); I'm just trying to Express Myself like Madonna told me to. I do have ambitions to create art that means something to people who do not happen to be me, i.e., other people. But if that never happens...it will still be nice to have tried.
So this is a poem about building a garage. It's called Building the Garage. Hee hee.

I can’t romanticize the materials or the techniques,
It’s all high-tech glue, nail guns, and plywood.
Concrete
on the floor; sheet metal on the roof.
No old wood sanded slippery smooth
or
left rugged in the haste of need.
No joints mitered with care, no axe and stump split
shingles.
No rocks hauled from the creek and placed patiently
to
shelter us
from the wolves, the
wind,
the
winter’s stalking snow.
But when I stand here, boots sinking in the mud,
face
chapped, hands so tired they no longer grip,
and cold damp sinking into my bones...
I feel the pioneer.
And the ache in my muscles makes me believe
I
could have done it—
Through hard labor, I could have carved safety from
the
offerings of the wilderness.
Come in, come in,
Come in.
We have shelter.
We have hearth.
We have home.
There is a safe place here for us.

Cover of The Brian Jonestown Massacre song Hide and Seek
So here is #3 of the cover songs I've been messing with in order to learn how to record music and use video editing software. And that's probably enough of cover songs for awhile...on to some original music.
