Never Enough

When what appears to be a distant dream becomes a reality, do you stop there and say that this is enough?

No.

When what you think you want is granted to you, you question yourself again and again as to why did you want it at the first place.

Usually, you just don't know at all.

Next, you begin to eye other things and wish you would have thought of that in the first place but what can be done? You've already put yourself in this situation, due to the thought that this was want you wanted and where you wanted to be.

How sure are you that what you want for the future is truly what you really want?

Life. Sometimes you just wonder when you'll ever be good enough despite the fact that acknowledgement is only a temporal satisfaction. You wonder if you'll ever fit the definition of 'success' that the society has formed.

You wonder if you'll ever be happy with where you are and who you have be come one fine day.

Who are you exactly?

Who am I?

It is something I am yet to find out myself.

Musings at..3 AM in the morning.

A Snap A Day

My DSLR has been sitting around and collecting dust for months. Hence, to make full use of it, I have decided to start a personal A Snap A Day project just so I can put my DSLR to use. I only started it yesterday and my photo of that day was..

Image
Went to take a new passport photo for postgraduate registration use and just had to compare these with the previous old photos to see the difference! Glad to say I look better now (minus all the crazy hair and such). Still working on looking a lot better, of course! Patience and perseverance. Ohmmm.

Didn't quite know what to take today so I randomly decided to take some self-timer shots of myself! I don't really take a lot of selcas now probably due to age heh so I thought why not now? Well, it was pretty tiring having to man the camera and pose. Most of the shots failed so I gave up in the end.

Anyway the few that survived!

Image
This does not count as a self shot but yes, this is a ...cosy shot.

Okayla. I can conclude that I need to practice posing more la. And my arms and thighs need so much toning!  Developed aches on thighs, arms and back and I knew I had to rest today. Body war shall continue tomorrow!

Shall try to post more A Snap A Day pics here as and when. Till then.

Nothing in particular

Just random photos of happenings and such to keep the blog updated on how life has been.

Have gotten the Body Rock tv app on my phone and have been salivating over the progress pictures that some of the bodyrockers have posted! Great motivation that I too can be just like that! *obsessed. Anyhoos, got some motivational pictures off the site as well to keep pushing myself. Below are some of my fav!

Really glad that some of my friends have also gotten into working out recently! We have a chat group in whatsapp under 'Gym Buddies'. Hope this blossoms into something long lasting and worthwhile! Keep pushing, you!

As we are still on the subject of fitness (isn't that all I talk about as of late?), I've begun incorporating Body Rock into my workouts! Here is an example of how a 12-minute bodyrock session looks like.

Image
Day 1 of 30 day challenge. 50 secs work, 10 secs rest 7 rounds till list is completed. Those are what I managed to score from the fitness test. Don't judge me.

Image
Day 2's workout. 50 secs on, 10 secs off, 12 rounds. I really loved Day 2 so on a Body Rock rest day, I did this again along with Jillian Michael's Ripped in 30! I must beast myself! Roarrr!!!

Bodyrock is a definite killer. I can feel it on my thighs and arms but all the pain will be worth it!

I've also started doing a bit of jogging. While I used to loathe it with a vengeance, I find that my stamina has actually improved! Or it could just be the right shoes heh. I do interval runs in Bulatan Park for about 4 rounds. Am planning on doing jogs about 2-3 times a week. A good thing is that the mom and sister have also started getting into exercising and hence, the start of jogging. Now if only we can get the father into getting healthy. Le sigh.

Image
A photo of my healthy devilled eggs with yogurt! Made this for lunch munch along with a slice of wholemeal toast. Satisfaction indeed.

Eggs play quite a role in my diet. I make sure to have at most 2 a day for that protein. Of course, I do have my fill of tuna too. Or chicken and such during dinner. Om nom nom nom.

Image
Days when I feel like taking shots of my clothes (which is really very seldom). Got the shirt online cos I fell in love with the fishtail back!

Image
Yet another achievement to talk about: Finally being able to be an M size again! Yes, L and XL were home to me for the past few years due to my always expanding waistline and fats in the chest! Never again. Thighs still need a lot of working. Need to get more muscles in!

Image
Le Daphne and I in Parkcity's washroom after the very filling Ramadhan buffet!

Image
Group shot of the night! With Ivan, Arthur, Aizzat & Daphne!

While being part of a big crowd was something popular, eventually, I find that having fewer closer friends who have been with you for years is the way to go. They'll stick by you, be there for you and are willing to be nonsensical with you. Thank God for Whatsapp Groups & Facebook chats!

Image
Visited the UK Fun Fair after what seems like years! Managed to get two rides in before calling it a night! Crowd was huge but it was fun to just want to be all young and carefree again. Not to say that I am old now or anything but..you get the picture.

After the visit to the fair, a sad feeling washed through me for a second. After this week, I'll be leaving for my postgraduate studies in KL. By then, all of us will be separated again and it'll be so hard to gather and just catch up again. Le sigh. Distance, growing up. We just keep moving and moving.

End of melancholic thinking and such!

Getting in some early morning workout tomorrow before doing anything else so I shall turn myself in for the night.

Till then.

Saying Goodbye to Yet Another Closing Chapter

So tomorrow marks the last day being an English teacher to 37 kids in my primary 3 class. Sure, the kids drove me crazy at times and it could be so frustrating but there were a lot happy times and I 'd miss having kids come up to me telling me stories about their day and such. Or interrupting me in the middle of a lesson just to boast about some achievement. Or having kids that tease me about boyfriends. Sigh.

After almost 6 months of teaching, I can say that teaching is very challenging and till now, I don't quite know if I've really helped my kids or made them more confused. Mind you, most of them are from chinese schools and they hardly speak or use lessons apart from lessons. While I noticed slight changes in some kids (IE being more attentive, doing their work well, actually asking questions and taking lessons seriously), there hasn't been anything really life-changing. Sometimes I feel that I've not tried hard enough or cared enough. At times I feel like I suck at teaching because it's just hard to explain why a language works that way when the rules of the language are so confusing to begin with. Le sigh.

With that said, I am thankful to have these 37 kids in this chapter of life. They've never been overly monstrous or too hard to control. I learned to be a more positive motivator through them and can actually stretch my patience out more. Will I step back into the field of education? Time will tell. Currently, I am leaning towards a career which is more creative-based. Of course, God works in mysterious ways and it's hard to tell what the future holds!

Pictures with my kids and of the kids! In no particular order, of course, because yours truly is quite lazy to arrange them pics. Heh.

Image
With some of my Monday 2.15 pm kids! Another kid was taking the pic. Only 4 boys but mind you, the noise that they can make! From left, we have Yuriz, Nigel & Fazwan. After handing out their farewell gifts and snapping photos, Yuriz came back to class to 'salam' with me and to say thanks. I will be seeing him tomorrow again but that gesture was really touching. Fazwan has always been adorable and good and smart and Nigel has the tendency to go from one extreme to another. Ah well.

Image
Group shot of the boys! Muqrif is the one in the green shirt. I remember him crying once just cos he couldn't finish his work on time. Anyway, he has been doing pretty okay in class after that and we have laughed off the whole crying issue.

Image
With Yuriz, Muqrif & Fazwan! Since it is the fasting month, the boys were pretty gungho about fasting in the first few days of the Ramadhan month. Soon, Yuriz was secretly going to the washroom to drink tap water and buying canned drinks and I heard the rest of the boys fasting for half-day and by this week, most of them have stopped fasting. Kids indeed. Yuriz claimed that fasting is not good. Hehe.

Image
Some of my Tuesday and Saturday 'monsters'! From left we have Daniel, Esmond & Caleb. Daniel is just super adorable and would love talking to himself about things. He also loves making sentences with "I want to eat..." and you can fill in the blank with any word in the English dictionary and loves talking about destroying things. Esmond is pretty talented in art and can be silly at times. Caleb has gotten the idea that my boyfriend is Super Junior. I don't even.

Anyway.

The kids have Computer Lesson every Monday till Wednesday and the lessons would always be half an hour long. Caleb and Daniel have the tendency to either skip lessons or quickly finish early just to come back to class to....talk nonsense with me. Which is pretty cute. Caleb is a pretty slow learner but he has been paying more attention to his work as of late. I'll miss them monsters.

On Tuesday

Image
Wednesday girls! From left, Hui Ying, Erica, Natalie and Evelyn. Natalie is one of the most adorable kids around. She squeaks a lot and makes random noises. Evelyn is super smart and always has things to tell me about her day or activities in school. Erica just joined the class last month but has proven to be a pretty smart kid from a chinese school. Hui Ying is always joining singing competitions and is a squash player as well. Smart, always has things to say and is always, always busy with activities.

Image
My Wednesday 4.15 pm kids! We have from left (back) Evaness, Jayden & Jordan. Evaness is 12 and from the Philippines. She has hardly been in class as she travels around a lot but she has always been pleasant when she is in class. Jayden is always helpful and has things to to tell me (usually nonsense heh). He has been trying hard in class well and is pretty competitive. Jordan has also been working pretty hard as of late and trying to do his work well. That is the face he likes to pull for fun. He has started to grow on me in these months with his funny antics and the way he talks. Up front from left, we have Rowena, new girl too but really smart and gentle and just really good, Meng Yao, Jia Yuan, Mandy and Virginia.

Meng Yao has learning disabilities and it has been a roller coaster of a ride trying to teach him. When he is in one of his distracting moods, it is almost impossible to ask him to do anything Once during revision class, he came up to me and said, "Teacher, I'm very happy today because I have many friends". Being a kid that is different has been difficult judging from the cuts and bruises he has gotten from being bullied in school He is a good kid and I will miss motivating him and having him sit next to me too. Jia Yuan and Mandy are the work hard, do well type and they've been cute and always trying their best. Virginia sort of lives in her own world and would be distracted but she can always come up with something to add to the lesson when she can.

Image
Monday 4.15 pm kids! The 4 girls 1 boy class. From back left we have Carrie, Audrey and Ek Kai. Up front we have Rachel and Ainsley (with specs).

Image
Ainsley and Rachel, my little aunty. Haha.

Image
With le me. Rachel lives up to her name as a little aunty who is smart and always eating junk food! She is a real cutie really with her mannerisms an the way she talks. Ainsley is a pretty smart girl but she can be pretty careless at times. One thing I like about her is her ability to accept criticisms with a smile and trying to work at it again.

Image
My little aunty and Audrey. Audrey has got to be one of the most  talkative kids in class. She talks like an adult and is a little troublemaker at times.

Image
My little aunty again and Ek Kai! Ek Kai is a humourous kid who has things to say about the lesson. He is little too active an always wants something to do. I'll miss his antics and nonsense talk.

Image
Aunty and Carrie! Carrie is super quiet since she is pretty weak in the language but she has been trying to be better and is slowly making slight improvements,

Image
Tuesday 2 pm kids! Back left we have Jean, Jamie, Chang Yi & Benjamin. In front we have Justin, Lee Hing, Kwang Zhen and Ben. This has got to be my quietest class despite the number of kids. Most of them are good kids who are weak in the language but are willing to learn. Ben used to be really hard to work with in the beginning. Soon, he started changing and trying to do better in class! Ben & Benjamin are actually brothers and I'll miss them coming up to me to tell me about computer games and other little stories. Justin is a small little boy who always writes carefully. Lee Hing, Chang Yi & Kwang Zhen were the very first kids I taught in my first day of class. They have been easy to work with, pleasant and adorable kids.

Image
Jean and Jamie! Smart and good girls.

Image
My Tuesday 4.15 pm girls! From left (back) we have my other aunty Pei Yi who is really quite aunty like and is always snacking and love saying "Me is..." instead of "I am", Joey the hyper active girl who is girly girl all over, Yue Ying and Carissa who are always together and good listeners and Nicole who can be a little slow but I guess she does try. She is more of an art person as well from what I see in her work.

Telling them it was my last teaching weeks wasn't really easy. They were pretty reluctant to let me go and vice versa but another chapter has to close for a new one to open. I told them they would eventually leave to go to primary four but they said they would not be able to come visit me in class anymore after that.

Last minute farewell cards from some girls and one from the colleagues! The nature of our job does not really give us time to bond with one another but I'm glad to have known them and to have learned how to teach from them. Very valuable indeed.

A random achievement moment to talk about! If you scroll through the photos, you may recall seeing me wear a black shirt in the pics. Well, previously, I needed an extra button put in just to button the whole thing but now it fits just fine without any extra button!  My punjabi suit (pictured above as well) fits much better as well!

However, although I may be working out and all, I have not exactly been eating clean and seeing my tummy and other problem areas just makes me feel like a pig. I know I have to eat cleaner to get leaner but doing it here can be pretty challenging. Le sigh. Sometimes slow progress can be pretty irritating. My arms are also looking pretty big and I am waiting for the day where I can say "My body is fine" to arrive! I need them muscles SOON.

Have started Body Rock as well which has pretty much killed me but I am loving it. Now if people can just stop tempting me with food!

Till the next update.

Today

I realize that as I get older, the more uncertain and confused I am of my capabilities, strengths and even myself.

Who am I to be and what will I become?

God and time will tell.

Progress!

Haven't been talking much about working out but I am still in the process of it (I mean working out).

Am still on a mission to lose more! See, I still have body issues such as not liking the bits of bulge and extra flesh hanging around, knowing this is not my most fit state, not toned enough and the list goes on so, persevere I must!

Ever since my last post about weight loss, I have been going through my regular gym motions and such but it did not seem to do much except for maintenance. Hence. a couple of weeks back, I started on the Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred programme! Am currently on Day 8 of Level 2 and will be moving on to the final level in about 2 day's time.

Well, I have to confess that I haven't been following it THAT closely because of..influences. No wonder contestants on The Biggest Loser need to isolate themselves from the world! There would be times where food is the problem (family makes awesome food!) or times when I just don't have the time to shred just because of other commitments. Le sigh.

With that being said, I do get a little paranoid at times wondering if I have gotten chubbier, examining myself in the mirror for extra fats growing. Anyways, instead of focusing on the number of weights going down now, I've begun placing a lot of focus on getting toned up instead which is why the shred programme has been pretty helpful.

Will be continuing with Ripped in 30 after this! Hoping to one day look in the mirror and actually like what I see instead of picking on this and that.

Anyway, I am not one who takes progress shots and such but as of late, I have noticed a smaller lower belly pooch. Am mixing my current shred programme with some other isolated ab workouts which I hope will be able to eliminate more ugly belly bulges. Urgh. Have also started on some leg workouts today because..I just want slimmer looking legs. Greedy I know but ...

Pain is fear leaving the body. Hahaha! I just had to say that although it does not make whatever sense here!

Throughout the shred programme, the most noticeable difference is my back muscles! I can haz them! My shoulders are also looking squarer now! Who would imagine that I too can have those! :D

Image
Photo off Instagram but allow me to bask in this moment!

And anyway, it isn't easy trying to flex them while snapping a photo of it. Would have taken a better one but just couldn't remember how I managed to flex them to look like those.

Progress! Love it! I have always been a believer of strength cum cardio training!  Sure, changes may take place a little slower compared but I. Am. Getting. There. One day, I would like to wear a sleeveless top out and not worry if it makes me look fat. Soon.

Image
Squarer shoulders in the making!

Am also on the look-out for waist shrinking workouts! Roar! Body Rock tv offers some really intense workouts but have yet to try them out! Soon.

Image
Brother and I chipped in to buy dumbbells for the house! This explains why I've been working out more at home compared to the gyms these days. Looking to buy 5lb or 6lbs ones soon so that I don't have to keep changing the metal plates.

Food photos from fat days (Gawai break!)

Image

Image
Breakfast at Kuan Heng with the mom and sis! Initially wanted the laksa but they were out so we had the assam instead! Tasted just like curry mee with a whole lot of yum.

Image
Home-cooked bryani, vegetable dahl and ayam masak merah! How to resist?

Am trying to get back on track with my eating currently. So, I went marketing after my physiotherapy on Tuesday and made...

Image
Roasted pumpkin & kimchi salad. So. Good.

Image
Baked chicken breasts marinated in gochujang, light and sweet soy sauce.

This didn't really last because mom wanted us to go out for lunch with her today and we had laksa which wouldn't have been so bad if I had not overdosed on roasted duck during dinner. Only found out how fatty duck was after googling the calories. WHY?

Brand new day tomorrow.

Progress, please continue coming.

Shooting Day

I think I am getting rather meh in turning my ideas into reality.

Did a photoshoot today using chalk and I must have overreached my abilities because out of what seems like 50 over shots, I could only narrow down to 4 for use. 4! Sigh. I guess visualizing and turning it into ideas just takes more experience and work.

Anyway. Failed idea didn't turn out to be too bad because now, I have yet another idea which involves floors and chalks and it just might work better compared to the one before.

Hoping to do a whole lot more with chalk and floors and messes soon soon.
