Loose lines

I was trying to keep things flowing but really I wanted to have more time to really explore this pose.  As usual...

A new (old) way of sharpening my charcoal

I found another artist's site with a little video on his materials and how he maintains them.  I implemented his sharpening technique and lo & behold I was happy with my pencils again.  So much better (although it encourages a much slower approach to the drawing) and I'm a lot more encouraged.  We'll see if it holds through the coming weeks and months.

Long pose so I spent some time on it.  Not sure if I spent the time well, but....

Squished

A study in form and shadows.  Lots of fun with this even if it came out a bit abstract.

Unfinished

I was really enjoying this pose only to have the time run out on me.  I've been looking at some Zin Lim art and have the urge to go in and finish some of my favorite unfinished sketches with a little less emphasis on just the figure and more on the overall image as a piece of art.

Finger study

Just wanted to work out the hand in this one.  I love these studies of sections of the human figure.  So much fun to play with the details.

Lady S has been very accommodating for us this summer.  We really appreciate her modeling for us.

Mr. D was a really great model.  I got quite a few decent sketches of him over the years.

faraway.  Refers to the look on her face and when this was done.  She was an excellent model and I hope she is doing well.

An underworked head study

I had to keep reworking this as the pose went on.  Not sure if there was movement or my eyes are just not what they need to be but I was having difficulty getting this where I wanted it.

Way to middle tone

This is one that I could push in the studio and really emphasize the deep shadows and lost edges.  Might be worth it just for the practice.

Here's hoping everyone has a safe and fun day.  Just remember why we're celebrating.

Rough

I'm just missing my old line.  I may have to take a look at my materials or get my eyes looked at again.  Just not as happy with my figure work as I used to be.

Done this pose many times...

but this one really flummoxed me for whatever reason.  For as long as the pose was I really didn't get very far with it.
