Bi-yearly post
It's been two years since I had a post. Partially because I only created this blog for a particular post and never really wanted to give update and partially because I started to use facebook.
A lot have happened in the past two years, though. Friends got married, graduated, moved, got new jobs, lost their jobs, went home, came back.... Two years can mean a lot for some people, and very little for others. Some are staying the same, others have moved miles. Looking back, the past two years I have lived rather fully. Traveled a lot, achieved something, went on to a semi-new stage of my life/career, fixed my teeth, knew some new people, and got to know some people more. It is good to find out that I did not waste my time away, even though I frequently feel so day by day.
This year, according to the general public, should really mean something. A new president for the united states, and I am turning 30. For the president part, this is the first and may very well be the last time that I followed politics. Obama's presidency is a milestone and, despite you like US or not, this is stunning. I don't know his politics, strategies for economy crisis or terrorism, or his experience well enough to go on on any debate, but I do know he is inspiring. And how often can you say that about a politician or a president? (and thinking of the previous president of Taiwan, the word should be disgusting...) To me, it is not really what Obama can do, it is what he can make everyone do. If I could be touched, moved, and for one second understood why they are "proud to be an american" after his speech, then of course those proud americans in the audience would have their eyes full of tears. For a cynical person like myself, this is an ironic situation. Like I always said, I think human being are ugly and whatever; and every now and then there's someone like Obama who shows up and proves me wrong. What in the hell would you want to be a president at this time? But how could he have been elected other than in this year? He is for sure going to have a really tough time and lots of criticism coming after him as I don't see the situations get better any time soon, but for once I do want to remember this glory moment that we should all be proud of.
As for turning 30, I actually don't have any special feeling. Supposedly it's a big deal especially for women, so to go along with that, me and my friends are going to make it a big deal. We're going to celebrate it in a big way, like we did when we turned 20, with cheers and laughter! Those 10-15 year friendship is very precious, although I know all of us refuse to count anymore.
So for "almost" 30 years, though have not been any particularly successful and am not gifted with any talents, I have been a relatively good daughter/niece/grandchild, friend (to whom deserves), student (to those naive teachers), girlfriend (I'm crossing my fingers), and mom (to my dear pets). There's tons more I want to become! If there's any special feeling to this year's birthday it's that I am more looking forward to it than usual and have so much expectations for it and the years to come.
In this regard, me and Obama is in the same ship...
