Perseid Meteor Shower

Perseid Meteor Shower

Perseid Meteor Shower, a couple weeks ago I stayed up late into the night to photograph the Perseid meteor shower. Well, it did not disappoint, except for the full moon rising that night, I could still see a lot of movement in the heavens.

The cameras has a hard time picking them up because it just did not get dark enough. But on this photo, the moon made the wispy clouds light up the sky for a bit. I like that.

My tiny little go pro camera picked up this strange light, only one photo of it. I have never photographed this ever in all the shots I have taken. Plus I was only shooting at 10 second shutter speed, sometimes 5 seconds because it was so bright.

I pointed this camera to the north and it caught this. So I asked the internet what it thought it was. It says it is a plane, more than likely. The straight lines are the lights on the wings and the lights down the middle is the one that blinks under a plane.

Makes sense to me. I will go with that. ๐Ÿ™‚ Never know what you might see if you step out at night and look up.

Perseids Shooting Stars

Beyond the trees at the end of the road, is our little cabin in the woods. No one can see us back there but the sky’s are wide open to us on the other side of those trees. What I like to call my little corner of this big old world. ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. One day I will look up at the stars and learn shutter speeds. ‘Til then I am still on automatic, or my camera is anyway. ๐Ÿ™‚ I learned today there were some aurora sightings in Michigan … not around here. Have you seen any Sandra?

  1. I do enjoy a mmgood nighttime display. Out into the country we are free from most light pollution but we have had bad luck as of late with clouds ruining the show.

  2. Thank you Sandra. Good work! And a good reminder of the wonder above us. You are blessed to live in such a place with no light pollution in which you can appreciate the great night skies as all did once upon a time not so long ago. I recall much of your work in this area. Blessings

  3. Lovely photos. I really liked looking at these. I came up anom before when commenting, until I tried again commented within the reader.

  4. Great set of shots Sandra, I set up my camera(s) outside, weather permitting or in a North facing window on timed interval and leave them to it and get some lovely shots, including aircraft and then merge them into a time-lapse, especially for Aurora or other special sky events!

    1. Thank you Brian, yes all this time I thought all the lines in the photo are shooting stars. Until I took that one with the dots on it. Then I learned what they are. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. What a wonderful post. And to get these images with a GoPro โ€” fabulous. We missed the Perseids this year. We were on holiday, and there was just too much light (street lights and whatnot) to see the stars properly.
