It's Snowing
YAY!!! I love the the snow. A guy on the radio this morning nicknamed this October blizzard "The Octizzard". Made me laugh. I thought it was a funny word.

Starting Easy & Having Fun
I am going to take Lilian's advice, start easy and have fun. After reading her comment I realized that I am starting with much too difficult of patterns for my skill level. I guess I kind of knew all along that I wasn't ready for the patterns that I was choosing, but I found some patterns that I really liked and some great fabric, and I wanted to sew those garments up so that I could wear them right now. Patience obviously isn't one of my strong points! :) When I was sewing with those patterns and that great fabric, I would get uptight because I was making mistakes and I didn't want to ruin my fabric. I wanted to hurry up and finish my garment so I would have something new and pretty to wear the next day. I now realize what an idiot I was being! For one, I am new to sewing and I am going to make mistakes. That is just the way it is and making mistakes is one of the best ways to learn. Second, what's the big hurry?! There is no reason for me to rush through my projects. I need to slow down and take the time to understand what I am really doing, and have fun while I'm doing it. Sewing is supposed to be fun right!
So I am going to step away from all of my sewing disasters that I have going on and start over. I picked up an easy pajama pant pattern at Joann's after work this evening and I'm gonna give it a try. For some reason I can't get the image of the pattern to post but it is Simplicity 2503. My husband loves airplanes and I found some flannel airplane fabric at Hancocks's so I think I will make him a pair of warm lounge pants. It is supposed to start getting cold here in Colorado later this week so I am sure he will appreciate some soft warm pants to lounge around in.
So I am off to get started and have some fun. I'll let you all know how it goes.
Thanks for the great advice Lilian!

Learning To Sew
Just curious how you all learned to sew. It has became very clear to me that I don't have any natural sewing talent and this isn't going to come easy for me. Was there a book you found helpful? An instructional video? I sit down and look at a pattern and I just don't get it! I understand the basics of sewing for the most part, but I can't read and understand a pattern to save my life. I guess I just need to be patient and practice, practice, practice. I would love to hear any advice that any of you have for a new sewer.
I hope you all have a great weekend! We are going to see Wicked this evening and I am so very excited.

Getting Started!
Hello All! I am fairly new to sewing and brand new to blogging. I follow many people’s sewing adventures through their blogs and am looking forward to sharing some of my own. Of course at the rate I am going, it will be quite some time before I sew anything worthy of a blog entry!
I look forward to talking sewing with all of you!
