It all started at playgroup...
Super Mom, Katie Smith showed us this cute little turtle, the size of a quarter, that she had recently gotten from her sister. Of course for Everett, the animal lover, it was love at first sight. Katie said that a girl was selling them for 10 dollars, and I asked Katie for the number so that I could get one for Everett. I thought it would be a great early birthday present.
Because I am obsessive, I went home and found the number on my own and then called the "turtle people". They didn't answer...so I left a message. I knew if I didn't act quick I would miss out on these adorable little turtles that my son loved so much, so later on in the day I called them again. They still didn't call me back...so not trying to look desperate I had my sister call them (I know I sound insane!). She couldn't get a hold of them either.
Preston had come home from work and just as we were going to bed he said, "Oh yeah, the "turtle people" called and I gave them our home phone." It was already 9:30 so I thought I should call them, seeing as how they hadn't called me yet. I called the "turtle people" and asked if they had any turtles left. She said that they did, but that I would have to come and get them right now, because there were a couple of other people interested.
*Side note- Sorry this story is so long, but it is well worth reading (if I do say so myself).
Anyway, I told Preston we would have to get the turtle right then. He looked at me like, "OK, well go get the turtle then." But I begged him to get it for me ( I was already in my pajamas). He said that he didn't want a turtle because they stink and he didn't want to have to smell it when he came home. I seriously begged him like a child for 5 minutes, and I thought to myself, "Who is this turtle really for?" He reluctantly went and got the turtle. He brought it home and I was so excited to show it to Everett in the morning. I told Preston that I was going to quickly read up on how to take care of the turtle and then I would head to bed. As I sat reading up on this turtle I found out that they live for 50 years!!! And that they carry salmonella, and that they might have worms or parasites and so you should take their poop to a Vet to get it checked out, and that they can grow to 12 inches long. By that time my cute little turtle didn't look so cute anymore. I laid in bed thinking about what I was going to do with this turtle. Should I keep it? I couldn't tell Preston that I had changed my mind after the fuss I put up. I didn't know what to do.
I called my little sister and told her what happened. She told me I could sell the turtle to her roommates, because they had heard about the "turtle people" and wanted to get a turtle themselves. So early tomorrow morning I am sneaking the turtle out (so Everett does not see it) and taking it to my sister's apartment where I will literally wash my hands of it!
Moral to the Story...If you are not a Super Mom (like Katie Smith), and you obsess over something, while then making a rash decision...you will find yourself bearing your soul to your blog late at night knowing that you should be asleep because you will be tired in the morning, and you will realize that you are insane and need professional help...just kidding on that last part, but take my advice and get a good nights rest knowing you don't have to spend it with a turtle.

My son, the animal lover! He is wearing a dog bag on his head. He thought it was hilarious...it really was!
