Wednesday weigh in

February 25, 2010

Starting weight: 144
Last week’s weight: 140
Yesterday’s weight: 138

Yeah, I know it’s Thursday.  I just didn’t have time yesterday to post!  Exciting news is that I am officially at my pre-pregnancy weight.  I did also gain 10 lbs during my IVF cycle though, so I’ve still got a bit to go.  So happy to be in the 130s!!!

What a disaster

February 22, 2010

I am not keeping up with the little one at all and have come to terms with supplementing. The freezer stash is completely gone. I do not have enough pumped for daycare tomorrow. Supplementing is now a necessity. We bought some formula today at Babies R Us and gave it a go. I thought we’d try straight formula just to see how it went. Um yeah. End result was a screaming mess. We went to half and half. Still no go. Ended up giving him straight breast milk. Ugh. I mixed 2 bottles for later tonight and tomorrow morning that are mostly breast milk with a little formula. We’ll see how that goes. In the meantime, I need to pump non-stop so that I have food to send tomorrow. I’m pumping now and will pump one more time before bed. I don’t normally pump over night, but tonight I’ll pump when Gavin gets up to eat and then again at my normal 5 am time. If I need to I’ll pump again before leaving for work. The baby will not starve. I am determined to provide.

Any tips on the whole supplementing thing? I was kind of hoping to just replace one bottle with a formula bottle but it looks like that won’t work. I don’t really want to send any formula to daycare as the rules are much more rigid for reheating, etc on formula and I don’t want my breast milk going to waste (of course, the rules are going to have to be stringent with formula at home as well, but not quite as stringent as daycare).

Maybe we need to try a different kind of formula? We bought Similac Organic and I really like the idea of organic, but if there’s something that has a taste closer to breast milk that the baby might actually eat, I’d give it a try.

My supply is tanking

February 19, 2010

I don’t think it has anything to do with WW. The diet just doesn’t seem drastic enough to have that drastic of an impact that quickly. More likely it’s due to the damage that my pump is inflicting on my body.

Last week I had 1 pumping session that ended with slightly pink milk. No big deal. I applied Lanolin and moved on with my life. Then we headed on to our road trip to Oklahoma. My pumping schedule was sporadic at best. I finally got some good pumping time in, looked down and saw that the milk was bright pink. Yuck! Ever since the pumping sessions have been shorter and the suction has been lower. Boo. Today so far I’ve pumped 13 ounces when normally I’d have at least 18 if not 20.

I’m not very sure what to do about this one. I only have 16 oz in the freezer and what I’m pumping is not enough to keep up. I’m already taking 4 Fenugreek and 4 Blessed Thistle capsules 3 times a day as well as chugging tons of water. I’m a little afraid to bump the suction back up.

Wednesday weigh in

February 17, 2010

Starting weight: 144
Last week’s weight: 143
Today’s weight: 140

OMG! So what’s the difference this week that lead to a 3 lb loss? Weight watchers. Several responses pointed me in this direction, so I signed up for the online WW program. I needed the extra kick to actually pay attention to what I was eating. I even managed to lose weight over a travel weekend. Woohoo! There were the inevitable fast food stops, but instead of just ordering whatever I felt like, I whipped out a handy app on my phone so that I would know the number of WW points I was spending. I’m feeling pretty darn good!

If anyone wants to share their favorite (easy) WW recipes, I’d love to hear about them!

Maybe at some point I’ll even decide to go to a meeting 🙂

Wednesday weigh in

February 10, 2010

Starting weight: 144
Last week’s weight: 144
Today’s weight: 143

Ugh. This is not going well. Probably time to start doing something beyond assuming the weight will fall off because I breastfeed. I’m not very sure what calorie range I should be in. Normally I shoot for about 2000 to maintain and 1700 to lose, but normally I also exercise at least 6 times a week. I’m nervous to count at all as I don’t want to go too low and start effecting supply.

I think I’ll leave it until we get home from our road trip and then start with 1700 calories and about 120 grams of protein.

I was skinny once

February 7, 2010

For some reason it’s surprising to me that virtually every pair of pants I packed away from pre-pregnancy is a size 6. Some of those don’t even fit over my hips, let alone zip.

:::le sigh:::

Size 6 seems so far away

Wednesday Weigh-In

February 3, 2010

My weight loss has pretty much stalled, so as a bit of motivation, I’ll be posting a weigh-in number every Wednesday (I may decide to do pictures… we’ll see how brave I am).

Current weight: 144
Pre-PG weight: 136
Pre-IVF weight: 125
Goal weight: 130

Short term goal: I’ve been hanging around 143, 144 for a couple weeks now. I’d like to be down to 140 by the end of February.
