I am not keeping up with the little one at all and have come to terms with supplementing. The freezer stash is completely gone. I do not have enough pumped for daycare tomorrow. Supplementing is now a necessity. We bought some formula today at Babies R Us and gave it a go. I thought we’d try straight formula just to see how it went. Um yeah. End result was a screaming mess. We went to half and half. Still no go. Ended up giving him straight breast milk. Ugh. I mixed 2 bottles for later tonight and tomorrow morning that are mostly breast milk with a little formula. We’ll see how that goes. In the meantime, I need to pump non-stop so that I have food to send tomorrow. I’m pumping now and will pump one more time before bed. I don’t normally pump over night, but tonight I’ll pump when Gavin gets up to eat and then again at my normal 5 am time. If I need to I’ll pump again before leaving for work. The baby will not starve. I am determined to provide.
Any tips on the whole supplementing thing? I was kind of hoping to just replace one bottle with a formula bottle but it looks like that won’t work. I don’t really want to send any formula to daycare as the rules are much more rigid for reheating, etc on formula and I don’t want my breast milk going to waste (of course, the rules are going to have to be stringent with formula at home as well, but not quite as stringent as daycare).
Maybe we need to try a different kind of formula? We bought Similac Organic and I really like the idea of organic, but if there’s something that has a taste closer to breast milk that the baby might actually eat, I’d give it a try.
