Tegan's 4th Birthday Interview

4...I can hardly believe that this sweet boy is 4 years old already!!  I adore Tegan, he is the sweetest, whiniest, most sensitive, smart, and loving boy in our house!  There is not a day that goes by (and it usually happens multiple times a day) that Tegan does not tell us that he loves us or ask us for a"great big hug, kiss, or cuddle!"
Image
In honor of Tegan's 4th birthday we had our traditional Hamberlin Family Birthday Interview!  Here are the results!
Name: T-E-G-A-N
Age: 4
Favorite Color: Green and Orange
Favorite Food: Strawberries, Grapes, Chicken Nuggets
(Tegan has turned into quite a picky eater...he loves any kind of fruit, all types of processed meat like chicken nuggets, hot dogs, or meatballs, and fruit snacks.  We took Tegan off of milk in January because we were having such a hard time potty training him and wham bam just like that he was potty trained in 3 days.  For now he is on a dairy restricted diet which means almond milk, and dairy free yogurt and ice cream.)
Favorite Song: I Like to Move it Move it, Gangham Style
(Tegan still loves music and loves it loud!  He loves to watch music videos on YouTube and listen to his songs in the car as loud as I let him.  Tegan started Sunbeams this year and loves singing time...he has a great memory and has memorized many primary songs and loves to sing them to anyone who will ask!)
Favorite Book: Pete the Cat
Favorite TV Show: Paw Patrol and Peppa Pig
(Paw Patrol is a constant in our house!  He also likes Wallykazam, Big Big Friend, and Richard Scary Busytown Mysteries)
Favorite Movie: Big Hero 6
(Tegan doesn't really love to watch movies, unless it is in the car, he would rather watch a show on TV or Netflix.  I think his attention span is too short for movies but he does love going to the movie theater with his Dad and Paxton!)
Favorite Animal: Pig
Favorite Snack: Fruit Snacks, Pizza Sticks
Favorite Toy: Chase (from Paw Patrol) Stuffed Animal
Favorite Sport/Activity: Soccer, Play iPad
(Tegan is not crazy about sports...but he loves technology!  He would much rather watch TV or play iPad than play sports.  He is starting T-Ball this spring and it will be interesting to see how it goes!)
Image
Tegan is just finishing his first year of preschool and is doing awesome!  He was struggling a little bit in school at the first of the year but as soon as he got his glasses he was like a different child...all of the sudden he could trace a line, write letter, draw people, and write his name!  His glasses have been life changing for him!  He knows all his color, shapes, letter names and sounds, and numbers!  We still need to work a little bit on cutting, rhyming, and knowing the first sound of a word!  He loves school and wakes up every morning as asks, "What is today?" meaning is it a school day or not!
Tegan is always coming up with funny things to say, but a few of his most commonly used phrases include:
-Can I have a snack?
-Give me a hug!
-I'm so proud of you!
-Turn on a show!

I can not say enough about how much I love this boy and how lucky I feel everyday to be his mom!  We love you Tegie Boo!

Tegan's First Eye Appointment

Knowing our family history of vision problems, we had decided that it was time to take Tegan into Dr. Hawkins to see if he too was going to follow the trend and get some glasses!
I was so proud of Tegs...he did a great job at the appointment!  He told Dr. Hawkins his letters, let the Dr. look in his eyes, and even got his eyes dilated!

Once they had decided to dilate his eyes I figured that we were definitely getting some glasses!  Then when Dr. Hawkins said..."This is terrible" I was sure that he needed glasses!  Well it turns out that Tegan is significantly farsighted (can see faraway but not up close.)  Right now his prescription is right around +7.50 in both eyes...that is REALLY farsighted!  The doctor said that Tegan has likely had to really focus hard to see things normally and that he wouldn't be surprised if he has been having terrible headaches because of it...so sad for him!
We spent awhile trying to pick out some cute glasses for him until he finally declared, "don't put one more pair of glasses on my face Mom!"
I am so sad that he has had this terrible vision for so long and worried about how he is going to take to wearing glasses yet, I am so excited to see what a difference this makes for him!

Tegan-September Preschool Fun

Tegan had the best 1st month of preschool!!  I love that he is able to come to my school and that I know exactly what they are working on and what they are learning everyday!
This month they worked on writing their names, letters, colors, and shapes!  They also learned about families, houses, friends and community helpers!  Here is a little glimpse into Tegan's first month as a preschooler!

Tegan's 1st Day of Preschool

Tegan is finally in preschool...I swear this kid has been talking about going to preschool for years (probably ever since he figured out that was where Paxton was going every other afternoon for the past 2 years!)
I have honestly been a little nervous about sending this one to preschool...he definitely has a different temperament than Paxton and I was worried that he would be compared to Paxton since he is going to the same preschool!  I think I don't have anything to worry about...Tegan ran right in and has loved going to preschool ever since!

When I went to pick him up he told me, "Go out of this room...I don't want to leave."  I'm glad he loves it!

Real Salt Lake

Paxton has been begging to go to another RSL game since he and Andy had so much fun at the last one!  This time I wasn't about to be left out of the action!  We left Tegan and Kyson home with Jerika and hit the road for a night of soccer fun!
I was so impressed with how many fun activities they had their for kids (and adults) to do before the game!  Paxton showed his awesome soccer skills by trying to kick a few goal...he didn't get a goal but we did manage to snag 5 free t-shirts from different vendors!
Image
No RSL game is complete without a picture of Pax with his soccer idol...Kyle Beckerman!
Notice Pax has on his shin guards and cleats, can't go to the game without them!
Image
To sum it all up...the game was so much more fun than I thought, the tickets were pretty cheap in comparison to other sporting events, and the smile on this kids face was worth every penny!  There will be a lot more RSL games in our future!

It did rain for about 5 minutes during the game...Andy forgot his coat and had to make due with our new shirts!

Jerika sent me a text asking how things were going...at that exact moment RSL scored and we were celebrating like CRAZY!!

August Instagram and Other Stuff

We had quite a few big rain storms during the month of August...We spent a lot of evenings sitting on the front porch watching it rain and waiting to play in the puddles!
Image
We spent our last summer weekend at my parents house...Paxton designated himself to be Uncle Jake's helper around the yard.  The job obviously came with a few perks!
Image
We have become a 2 kids meal family...the boys are getting to the point where they are eating enough and their preferences are different enough that they want their own meals when we go out to eat.  We have been both excited about and dreading this day for years!  Excited that they are finally getting out of their picky grazing stage and dreading it because paying $4 for a hot dog and $4 for a grilled cheese sandwich sure takes a bite out of your budget!
Image
Paxton has his kindergarten pre-assessment.  Luckily he did great and was deemed "ready to go to kindergarten!"
Image
And yet again, like every other month that has past...these boys are growing bigger and bigger and are finding new ways to drive us crazy and melt our hearts all at the same time!

Paxton's First Day of Kindergarten

Paxton is in Kindergarten this year!!
We debated and debated about whether to send him or hold him back a year because of his mid summer birthday but when it came time to make the final decision we realized that he was way way ready to go to school full time and sending him to preschool for another year (with Tegan) would not be the best idea!
Image

Image
So far he loves kindergarten...his teacher (Mrs. Lyman) is on maternity leave for a few weeks so he hasn't really gotten into the full swing of things but I am sure when he does he will hit the ground running!  He says that his favorite part of kindergarten is recess and drawing!
