GD!

I have to say this may be one of the most exciting day's in my pregnancy! Yes it probably tops finding out we were expecting and finding out the new baby is a girl! It seemed I was following the same pregnancy path as when I was prego with Adie which I have to admit was alittle scary!

With Adie I was on bedrest at 33 weeks for pre-term labor (should have been sooner but I don't mind very well), I had gestational diabetes at around 28 weeks (which means a very strict diet, far stricter than any weight loss diet) and Adie was induced at 36 weeks due to the dying of my placenta caused by the gestational diabetes. (which means no norishment to the baby).

So here we are in pregancy #2 and it was starting to look like it was going to be dejavu! Not somthing I was terribly excited about. My cervix is soft but not dialating. So that limits my daily activity. Definatly not strict bedrest by any means but a stern look and a "take it easy" from the doctor. So here we are at about 27 1/2 weeks and I was due to take the 1 hour glucose test to check for possible diabetes. I have to say I was not terribly optimistic! I took the 1 hour test right before Christmas which came back fairly elevated, not good. The normal range high is 139, mine was 178 and at 200 your in real trouble. So I then had to take the 3 hour glucose test which consists of 4 blood draws and 3 hours of sitting at the doctors office. Boring! So between having had GD before and my high 1 hour level I was positive I had it. So for the past few days I have been eating everything I know I shouldn't be! Smart... right? I just wanted to get my fill before they handed down that horribly strict diet. Well today... I got my results back and after my very long winded story I am so happy, maybe even proud to say... it was NEGATIVE! So I think I may need to adjust my perspective on this pregnancy and count my blessings! The first blessing being the pregnancy itself and of course the many blessing that come in small doeses along the way! Looks like 2009 is going to start out on a very positive note! Happy New Year everyone!

Seeing Santa!

ImageWe took Adie to the mall to visit Santa last Saturday. We had been gearing her up in hopes she wouldn't refuse to sit on his lap! She was really excited to wait in line for him and even more excited when it was her turn to go onto the winter setup. When we asked her what she was going to ask him for she said "snoopy".... humm, mom better figure that one out! Anyway, she did a pretty great job and sat in his lap, reluctuatly, but she didn't refuse! We didn't exactly get a smile out of her but I won't push it! She was so excited when Santa a gave her a coloring book after her turn was over! And I think Jeremy and I breathed a great sigh of relief! Image
"Merry Christmas!" Adie says!

Not perfect... but still considered successful! There were no tears!

25 weeks and COUNTING....

So we, being me and the new baby, made it to 25 weeks (last Sat). I am relieved to be this far along... and if I don't count how long I have left I am relieved to be past the half way mark by a few weeks. Keep in mind that I count 36 weeks as done! Adie was born at 36 weeks and 3 days so that's where I come up with these things!

Adie on her birthday, Oct 20, 2006
weighing in at 5lbs 9 oz 18" long

So this is what's going on in baby world... at 23 weeks, just after Thanksgiving, I spent the weekend on the sofa with contractions. Jeremy say's there not but what the hell does he know! It's not like it's his body or like he's ever given birth to a child ... so I just ignored him. I didn't call the Dr. becasue I already had a routine appointment the following Monday. Of course they did not like the news I was delievering to them and started quizing me about my pregnancy and delivery of Adie. They didn't like that news either. I had the same problems with Adie but at about 28 weeks. By the time they induced me at 36 weeks, due to my gestational diabetes, I was 2 cm dialted after 3 weeks of bedrest. Bedrest should have started sooner but I was stuborn and wouldn't listen. I enjoyed my life, job and friends far to much to be stuck on the sofa! Stupid me, huh! Image me... 24 weeks pregnant
bad picture, I know....

Anyway back to this baby... the Dr. did an ultrasound, #6 for me, and learned that the cervix was long (4.5 cm, anything over 2.5 is good) and closed, but soft. (soft is what happens before it starts shortening and opening). So were good so far... however I did get the take it easy talk and we will see you back in a week! Ugh nothing like sharing the view weekly... if you know what I mean! So I visited the Dr. again last Thursday (the 11th) and this was the update... cervix still long, but about 1 cm shorter at 3.5 cm, closed and soft. So I shall return to the Doc again on the 23rd... I'll let you know. Oh and also on the agenda for the next Dr. apt is the glucose test to test for gestational diabetes... wish me luck... that sucks! Both the test and the diabetes! I swear these girls start out stubborn and persistant from the very beginning! Lord help me now!

Holiday Happenings

It's officially the holiday season here in Colorado! I had great plans of having the lights up the weekend after Thanksgiving but we came home to quite a bit of snow, 8 inches by the time the storm left. So needless to say my lights had to wait! But here they are! Jeremy spent several hours putting up the outside lights on Saturday. And they are definatly to my liking! While he was putting the lights on the 2 trees in front he managed to fall off the ladder... it was a short fall... and although it was very scary for Adie to watch her Daddy fall, he was fine and it turned out to be really funny! Just the next day we were hit with another snow storm... which makes the perfect outdoor Christmas picture, well in my opinon anyway. So here's the lights, the house and the start of the snow storm which continued all night and most of the day today. It's really pretty but VERY cold... it was only in the high 20's today... burrrr!ImageMerry Christmas from our house!
Image Snow falling and falling and...Image
this is the toy tree... decorated with mostly all Mickey and Disney ornaments! I love this tree! Notice there are no presents under this tree... I couldn't keep Adie from trying to open them!
ImageThis is the pretty tree! I can't help it... I'm a designer for a living... I needed that perfectly decorated tree... I would like to add some more stuff to it though...
ImageAdie decided she just had to go outside and play in the snow. She even got herself dressed in her coat, hat and shoes! Jeremy and I watched her from inside the house... it was WAY to cold outside for us! She had a great time and stayed out at least 20 minutes... her adventure ended when she decided to step off the porch into the yard and had snow up to her butt, which made her very wobbely. She promptly fell over, got snow all in her shoes and coat and decided it was time to come sit by the fire!

Oh a different note... our local town center hosted a "Home Town Holiday" celebration for the kids and families last weekend. It was cold, in the mid 30's, but we decided to attend for a while. They had a train ride for the kids, a horse drawn carriage, tons of kid activities and most exciting was the fireworks at the end of the evening! Adie had a great time, which makes it even more fun for us! Isn't it great to watch your kids thourghly enjoy themselves!

The town tree - dinky if you ask me!

This was really funny! While we were waiting in line for the horse drawn carriage Adie decided she wanted to wait with the other kids on the bench. She walked over to them, they made room for her and up she climbed.

Adie loves horses!

Image Adie loved her lifesize candycane! It was really cute watching her carry it around so proudly! It was quite sad when she hit it on the ground and it popped! ImageAdie on the kiddie train ride... she loves trains too!

There was a letter writing station for the kids to write to Santa... believe me if Adie could have written one her mommy would have been all over it! A picture by the holiday mailbox will have to do for this year!
ImageWaiting on the fireworks show!
Happy Holidays everyone!
