Winter Wonderland

We have had a wonderful Christmas. It started the Friday before Christmas with the Rigby Family party. Jays two older brothers weren't in town but the rest of us had a great time. Jay's parents spoiled us. We have a lot of new games and we can't wait to play them.

On Saturday morning we made the drive to Idaho Falls. We had the Croft family Christmas party on Sunday night and had some delicious Prime Rib. I am loving this new tradition! We had a good time watching our niece, Anilyn, open her presents.

We had planned on going to Salt Lake to see Jay's brothers on Monday but there was a snowstorm and we decided we better stay in Idaho Falls. On Tuesday we went to Sun Valley to spend Christmas. on Christmas Eve we went to Sun Valley Lodge to watch the ice skaters and listen to the Carolers. We also got to see the skiiers come down the mountain carrying torches. It looked like lava coming down the mountain. Then there were fireworks. I love Christmas Eve! Grandpa read the Night Before Christmas and peeled oranges for us.

We woke up on Christmas morning to TWO FEET of new snow. It was awesome. Jay and my little brother Justin decided they wanted to make a snow fort. They thought the snow off the driveway would be perfect. We've enjoyed sledding, swimming, playing games and relaxing during our stay in Sun Valley. It is such a magical town.

We'll be heading back to Idaho Falls tomorrow. Jay and my brothers are already planning out the next snow fort. I think I married a teenage boy. Oh well.

We hope you all had a great Christmas too!

Boring

We're pretty boring. I have nothing new to update you on.

We were supposed to go here (Leavenworth) this past weekend.
Image
But the roads looked like this.

Image
After 40 minutes to Colfax from Pullman (normally a 20 minute drive) and passing a serious accident we decided it was best to spend the weekend at home.

We did get our pictures taken.

ImageThanks Kate Jennings!
This weekend is the Rigby Christmas party. I'm very excited for this. They are going to Utah this year to be with Andy and Amanda. Jay and I are heading to Idaho Falls then Sun Valley for Christmas.
It's snowing right now. Winter storm advisory or something. If only they would close the college and send me home for the day.

Santa Clause is coming to town

Image Our ward party was on Friday and Santa Clause made a special guest appearance. All the kids in our ward were so excited to see Santa. Jay was with the kids. I couldn't keep him off poor Santa's lap. I'm pretty sure Santa never thought two adults would be sitting on his lap. Otherwise he might have opted out of this special appearance.

Where's Waldo?

Why is it my map at the bottom of this site shows that 76 people have visited yet I only have four people who leave comments? (Thanks Melissa for always leaving a comment)
I'm curious who is blog stalking us. I'm famous for blog stalking. It's pretty likely I blog stalk you. So how about you show yourself and then maybe, just maybe, I'll admit to stalking you.

Story of Stuff

Wow. Seriously, as I am sitting in my office watching this video I am in shock. Especially as it is getting close to Christmas and I am thinking, "What stuff should I buy my mom, dad, in-laws, husband, neighbor, brother, sister, friend..."

Trick-or-Treat

pict

Happy Halloween! Jay and I dressed up as Hawaiian tourists. Our ward party was last night but Jay had to work so I went alone. I won best single costume, wahoo! Then tonight was the stake Halloween party and we won best grown-up costume. These aren't the best pictures. We'll have to find someone who took a good picture of us. The first picture is a picture of Jay and I taking pictures of Anilyn.Image This picture is a picture of a picture that was used to vote for the best costume. ImageThis is our adorable little niece, Anilyn. Isn't she the cutest little bug?Image

Witches Hat

ImageWhile I was in Idaho Falls my mom, sister and I decided to take a road trip to Salt Lake City and do some shopping. We stayed at my cousins house and she had the cutest, simplest centerpiece on her kitchen table. A witches hat. It was at that point I knew I must make my very own witches hat. So my friend Sarah and I set to work. We bought all the stuff and tonight we finally put them together. I originally just had the bow on my hat but then Sarah started making hers all sorts of cute and quickly Imagefollowed suit. So, here is my masterpiece. I still need to make the table runner but that can wait until next October.

Anyone up for a roadtrip? I am heading to Idaho Falls this weekend. I can bring someone with me if you are intersted. If you just want dropped off in Boise that can be arranged as well.

Ooh... Eee... Son of a!

ImageJay and I decided to go miniature golfing this afternoon. Actually, Jay decided to go and I complained that it was all of 52 degrees and way too cold to be enjoying this summer activity. I am horrible at miniature golf, hence the title of this blog. Each time I hit the ball (74 times) I would cringe and say ooh... eee... son of a. On the 17th hole Jay informed me that had to be the title of the post. He creamed me. On the 18th hole I Imageapologized that I complained so much and that in all actuality I was having a good time and was sad that we were on the last hole.

It's coming

ImageIt's coming. Winter that is. Winter is on it's way. On my way to work it was all of 30 degrees outside. I don't know if I'm ready for winter. I really hate being cold. I don't mind the snow but I don't like the bone chilling cold. There is a chance of snow tonight and tomorrow. It won't happen and if it does it won't stick. None-the-less it's going to be cold tonight and tomorrow. Looks like I'm cuddling with a blanket, sipping hot chocolate and reading.

Birthday Fun

Image
I had a great birthday. Jay and I went out to lunch at the Fireside. We tried out our coupons from restaurant.com and got tons of food for all of $14. I was so full. I skipped out on the rest of work and hung out with Jay until he had to go to work. He got me some beautiful pearls and an external harddrive. You should see me doing my digital scrapbooking in pearls now. Ya, I'm a geek. Greg and Britt had me over for dinner and Family HomImagee Evening. It was so fun. Anilyn and I played chase and hide and seek. She is such a doll. Seriously I have the cutest nieces. Anilyn kept trying to grab the candles as I was blowing them out. I'll pretend that is the reason it took me three tries to blow them all out.

Crafts

ImageLast Saturday I made some cute Fall crafts. I think they turned out pretty cute. I had to put up all my Halloween decorations once I was done. I was just so excited to have them up. Jay thought I was a little weird since it wasn't October yet. Thanks Strawberry Pearl Studios for the cute crafts! If you need some fun ideas for your home or a girls night, contact them. They have great products.Image

Sales

Why can't all Albertsons across the state have the same sale? Why is it that I had to look like an idiot last night in Clarkston as I was trying to buy items on their case lot sale? Why is it that only Mormon communities get an Albertsons case lot sale? Stupid.

Sweet Deal

I just got this e-mail from a coupon place I am signed up for that said they had great deals for restraunt.com. I thought I would check it out. I typed in my zip code and a few restaurants came up with gift certificates for their restaurant. I just bought a $25 gift certificate to the Fireside Grille for $4. Yes friends, $4. The catch, we have to spend $35 at the restaurant. So $25 is taken care of. We will $35 worth of food for a total of $14. SWEET! I also called the restraunt to make sure they accept the gift card (it's actually an e-mail that was sent to me and I just had to print it out) and they do accept it. So it's not another scam. So check it out here. Make sure you enter in FALL in the coupon code, if it doesn't work, google it to see if there are any coupon codes. Sorry everyone in Idaho Falls. There was nothing in that area. Totally dumb if you ask me.

Chocolate

While I wish this post were about the brown delicious chocolate I must say it's not. It's about my stupid pink chocolate phone. I have had many problems with this phone over the past 17-months. Within the first few months my phone started acting weird. It has heat sensors and I wasn't able to call anyone because the heat sensor didn't work. I got a new phone. Then in May this phone stopped working. It would turn off and while off it would start vibrating. The screen would go black, it was a mess. I got a new phone. Now, four months later my third phone is broken. The charger piece that is inside the phone, has come out. So I can't charge my phone. In order to charge it I have to take my battery off, put it on Jay's phone and charge the battery. Then make the swap back. It's a pain.
So... does anyone have a Verizon phone and charger lying around?

Blessings

The past few weeks I have been following this amazing blog about a family coming together through difficult times. This couple, Stephanie and Christian (I have never met these people, I just came across their blog through my daily blog stalking adventures) were in a plane crash several weeks ago. They have a few beautiful children and Stephanie's sisters have all joined together to raise the children while Stephanie and Christian are recovering. They were both severely burned and go through many treatments a week. It's very moving, I shed tears each day as I read it. http://blog.cjanerun.com/
Today I found another tear shedding blog. Not that I don't have enough trials of my own and reasons to shed tears but I feel like I have become part of these families. The second blog http://sccsdecker.blogspot.com/ is just as compelling. This is about a mom who is going through tremendous medical treatments. When I first read I thought no big deal, it's life. As I continued to read I had to close out and calm myself down. I was having an anxiety attack.
As I read these two journals I grow more thankful for the gospel. The family in the first blog is LDS. They talk about the gospel in each post. They talk about priesthood blessings and the power of prayer. I feel at peace when I read this one. You can tell they are at peace, albiet scared, they are comforted. I don't know about the second family. They don't mention any sort of religion and from what I can tell they aren't LDS. I don't feel that same sense of peace. My heart breaks and I just want to tell them about the priesthood and the gospel and that no matter what happens families are forever.
So through this all way am I freaking out that it will happen to me rather than counting my blessings?

If you are going to read these posts, make sure you start at the beginning of the story and plan to have several hours and tissues on hand.

A long awaited Tag

I was tagged a few weeks back by Jade and Debi but I couldn't think of any quirks, still can't. But alas, I will give it a shot.

The Rules:
•Link the person(s) who tagged you.
•Mention the rules on your blog.
•Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours.
•Tag 6 fellow bloggers by linking them.
•Leave a comment on each of the tagged blogger’s blogs letting them know they’ve been tagged.

1. I spell things out with my fingers all day long. No, I am not a sign language interpreter I just pretend. I will spell things out in sign language when I see them, I will spell out things I am thinking, I will spell out things you are saying. It is so annoying. I didn't think anyone ever noticed until my little sister told me she does everything I do, including moving my fingers by sides all the time. She thought it was cool. Nope, just an annoying quirk.

2. I am getting better about this, but it's still a quirk. When I go to a restaurant I won't drink out of the glass without a straw. Doesn't matter how thirsty I am. Friends who have gone out to eat with me many times (Kristi) know to ask for a straw if I am in the restroom. It's sad, I'm trying to get over it. Really I am.

3. Before I go on vacation I have to clean my house. Not just straighten it up, but clean. Mop the floors, dust the house, vacuum the carpets, change the sheets, do the laundry. I tried not cleaning to this extent before our last trip and I thought about it the whole time. On the drive home I started to panic. Pathetic.

4. On the clean house note, I won't let people see my house without it clean, except the Foutches since they are always over :). A few months ago Jay and I had the flu and I had bronchitis as well. My wonderful mother-in-law offered to make us dinner, our favorite, her lasagna. It would take about an hour to cook. Instead of sleeping during that hour we mopped the floors, vacuumed the carpet, dusted, showered and lit a candle. Once again, pathetic.

5. If there is a new candy or gum out or a new way or marketing it, I have to try it. Just had Sour Mambas, pretty good. Taste the same just sour. Pomegranate gum was pretty good but it dissolved in my mouth, didn't hold it's "gum" texture. Weird.

6. I'm a horrible eavesdropper. Jay and I will be out to dinner and having a conversation and I will start telling him what the couple three tables down are talking about. I also can't help but read papers on other peoples desk. It's not my fault. Really it isn't. It all goes back to my reporter days.

I tag: Brittanie, Lacey, Katelyn, Marci, Missy, and Lyndee.

Hodge Podge

It's been a while since my last post. There hasn't been a lot going on in our lives and what has been happening hasn't been stuff I've wanted the whole world to know about. We are doing well though.

This past weekend we took off and headed south. We went to Sun Valley. My family was there for the long weekend and we spent some time with them. I can never get enough of my family, especially since they live 8-hours away. We had a great time. We went to the famous Wagon Days Parade, no motorized vehicles just lots of horses. On Monday everyone went home and Jay and I stayed for an extra day. It was nice to relax and be together. It was very cold, it snowed in the mountains but thankfully not at the house. I think it's going to be a very long, cold winter.

We were only gone four days but apparently that was long enough to be out of the loop. As soon as we got back into town Jay's mom, Debbie, updated me on the happenings. I'm glad someone keeps me in the loop. Looks like we'll be making salsa this weekend, I'm so excited!

Digital Scrapbook HELP!

So I really want to do more digital scrapbooking but I have no idea who to use to print the pages. I don't want to print them in a book, I want them individually printed. I need your advice. Who do you use? I want to do 12x12 but I don't want a giant white border. Advice? Anyone? Buhler? Buhler?

Grammatically correct

How is something considered grammatically correct if there are dozens of different standards? I have always thought and been told that 7:00 p.m. is incorrect, it is 7 p.m. Well, here at WSU we have different grammar guidelines, we use the Chicago Manual Style which means the correct way is 7:00 p.m. I feel like I am intentionally breaking a law everytime I have to write it that way. ARGH!

Ok, I'm done ranting. Now that it is nearly 3:00 p.m. I am going to check out the Catering Showcase a.k.a. eat food!

Croquet

ImageJay got a croquet set for his birthday this year from my parents. We finally pulled out and played with some friends for Family Home Evening. It was a blast. The game came with rules and Jay and I discovered we had both learned the game wrong but we like our rules better and stuck with them. Who knew "poison" wasn't part of the game?! ImageImage

Cherries

My in-laws have a cherry tree that isn't that big but produces a billion cherries. We were able to once again take advantage of the delicious fruit. We have picked several times over the past week and decided it was time to do something with the fruit besides just munching on it. I had some incredible cherry jam (thank you Kristi) last year and wanted to make some but knew what a pain it would be to pit every single little cherry. I asked Jay to buy a cherry pitter, you have to press your hand down on a little handle thing and the pit comes out. He said no, he had a better idea. This is what I came home to.Image
He is using a stiff straw, that has a heart twisted into it at the top, as a cherry pitter. My husband may be frugile but at least he is creative.

Greater Than Us All

ImageJay and I just got done with our stake's (a church organization) muscial. We had a great time but boy are we glad it is over. We sang "More than Just a Boy" as Mary and Joseph. It is a beautiful song. We had to practice everyday the week of the performance and didn't get home until well after 10 each night, which is way past my bedtime. It was a great experience though and I know we would have regreted not doing it.

Missing: Mind

Image
This morning I was getting ready to leave for work and couldn't find my keys. I looked everywhere, under the couch cushions, in my purse, on all the counters, I couldn't find them. I called Jay to see if he had them and he told me he didn't. So I looked in the car, low and behold, there they were. Staring up to me where I had put them last night, in the cup holder. They were locked safely in my car. Jay couldn't come help because he was the only one at work and everyone else in the world was asleep, it was only 6:45. So I had to walk the 1.5 miles to Jay's work to get a key and then the 1.5 miles back. Needless to say, I was an hour late for work today. My mind is gone.

Balance Issues

So the Wii Fit tells me I have balance issues. No center of balance or whatever. I don't believe it. As Jay is kicking my trash at all the Wii Fit exercises I am typing on the laptop while sitting on the floor, drinking my ice water with my left hand and eating my left over Patty's Kitchen with my right. I can balance just fine.

Oh and a mad shout out to Patty's! Love that place.

It's mine!

Image
Dear Stellmons,

You aren't getting it back. I need it. My Wii age is 39, I'm only 25. My balance is well, I have none. Any surprise? So turns out I need the Wii and the Wii Fit.

Summer Time

ImageI love summer. Absolutely love it. We have been busy the last week. We went camping with some friends at Elk River. Lots of fun. Turns out our tent really is huge! We fit 4 adults, 1 child and a pack and play with room to spare. None of us really slept, except Jay. We ate very well though.

We were debating about going to see the huge tree, go to the falls or go home and go to the pool. Katelyn made the decision for us by cutting her Imagefoot so we went home, but not before stopping at the doctor's office for stitches. I stayed with her for stitches and a shot and the boys took the kids home and started cleaning up.

Of course, we went to the pool later that afternoon.
Image On Monday we headed to Idaho Falls. It was the longest drive of my life (or so I thought). We went with another couple and dropped them off near Stanley to float the middle fork of the Salmon, then we headed the rest of the way. Total drive time: 12 hours. It was horrible. We didn't get to my parents house until 1:30 a.m.!

We had a great time while we were home though. We did a little shopping, went boating,
Imageminiature golfing, and of course Imagewatched the fire Imageworks. While we were boating the boys failed to reapply sunscreen so they were all lobsters. My poor brother Greg couldn't wear a shirt for a while. Poor guy. Image

The Melaleuca Freedom Celebration was, as always, amazing! Forty-five minutes of fireworks put to music. We had to rope off our "area" on Tuesday just to be sure we had a place to sit during the show. Jay and I volunteered to take all my cousins, well, six of them, to the greenbelt before the fireworks. We had fun walking around, playing on the toys and eating lots of yummy food. It was tiring walking around the whole thing with little kids that were also tired but it was good exercise.
Image
Image
The hardest part of the whole week was coming back to Moscow. I miss my family and wish there weren't an 8 hour difference between us. The drive home took 13-hours which it made it the worst drive of my life. We picked the couple back up near Salmon. Really it was way past Salmon, with an hour on a windy dirt road. I kept asking Jay and if we had died and ended up in hell. The drive back to Moscow was very long and very windy. I don't recommend Lolo pass to anyone.

It's good to be back home though. However, I can't wait to see my family again.

Oh what do you do in the summer time...

ImageJay and I bought pool passes this summer and we love them. We have been three times so far, only twice more and they are paid for. Today I learned that Jay didn't think we would actually use them. Silly man, I want a tan! We go with some friends that live nearby and basically mooch off their children. The pool is a lot more fun when there are kids to play with.

Today Lauryn (our cute neighbor) didn't want to get in the pool, therefore, Jay was pouting. He told me "I need someone to play with". He was so sad. He used her sister Brooklyn to splash water all over Lauryn until finally she gave in. Lauryn decided she did want to play in the water and this made Jay very happy.

ImageThe kids all have fun with Jay. Last week Ambree decided to dump water on Jay's head, this kept her entertained while her parents went down the water slides. He is going to make such a great dad one day. For the time being he can entertain the neighbor kids and I can catch up with the girls and get a tan.

For those who have been concerned about my phone... it works! Some good friends of mine told me dunk it in rubbing alcohol and then wait for it to dry. It turned out great.

Stock Pile

Does anyone else feel the sudden urge to go out and get TONS of food storage with the flooding going on in the midwest? Smart people (analysts or something) are saying prices for wheat and corn are going to sore. Basically I'm freaking out. I also feel horrible everytime I see a picture of what is happening in Iowa, yet I am drawn to look at more. I wish there were some way to help them, other than money as I have none of that.

On a happier note, Jay and I celebrated our 1-year anniversary yesterday. We survived! One down, eternity to go. I am so excited though.

Germs

I just took a quiz and now have to sanitize my computer. I found out there are about 1,348,200 germs on my keyboard right now! That's equivalent to the number of germs on 270 toilet seats. SICK!
Go here to see how your keyboard is.

Sleepy

ImageI have been SO tired lately. Between the strep throat and the super cloudy days I haven't wanted to get out of bed. Sunday and Monday I slept all day long. I didn't want to get up this morning. Does anyone have any tips on how to get out of bed when it is so cloudy outside it seems like it is still nighttime?

Dr. Mario

Image

Jay and I were able to play with our adorable niece Anilyn today while her parents went to Spokane to go to the Temple. Jay decided it was time to teach her how to play Dr. Mario. She did great once she figured out how to move the little joystick around and around. Then she decided Jay's must be better and climbed up on his lap to take over. He's going to make a great Dad one day.

Relaxful

Image
Disclaimer: Jade, before you rush to my comments and tell me relaxful isn't a word, please read on.

My wonderful husband has this theory that every person is allowed to make up one word a day. Once the word is made up it magically appears in some dictionary and he thinks he is allowed to use it from then on. This drove me crazy the first few months of our marriage. He would say a word and I would inform him it wasn't a word. Turns out he had made it up years ago and thus it was a word. Last night as I was saying our prayers I thanked Heavenly Father for a "wonderful relaxful evening." After we were through Jay started giving me crap about that not being a word. Thankfully someone had made it up centuries ago and thus I was allowed to use it.

Winner

It's true. I am a winner. Every morning on my way to work I listen to ZFUN, a radio station here in town. Every morning they do "Pop the question" I try to win but can never get through. Today was my day. The question "One in four Americans have one of these" I started thinking. What do I have that others don't? Couldn't come up with anything so I reversed it. What do others have that I don't? I thought I had an idea so I called. Busy. I kept calling and it rang! Now normally I get so excited I hang up but today I actually stayed on the line. "ZFUN, can you pop the question?" "Is it a tatoo?" "YES!" I think they were shocked that a genius had called in. Normally they have to give two clues before they get the correct answer. I must have run out of my five minutes of fame during my TV years and my brief stint in radio because they forgot to record my answer. Oh well. I won movie tickets and a 1 gig thumb drive. Woot woot!

Perfect Day

Image
Today is a perfect day. It has to be. I slept in a little, which I totally shouldn't have done. I looked out the window and the sun was actually shining! I got ready for work and my hair actually looks cute for once. I was able to wear capri's because it's actually nice outside and I got some laundry done. All this before I even left for work. Then when I walked out the door the birds were chirping, the temperature was perfect and I was in a good mood, all because the sun was shining. On my way to work I saw the above seen. AImage beautiful blue sky, a vibrant green field on our rolling hills and a bright yellow crop duster. The colors were so amazing together. Then a few miles later I saw three deer grazing on the Palouse (it's what the rolling hills are called here). It was like a musical. I was ready for the birds to start singing and a parade to start coming through town. I am so ready for summer. This weekend it is supposed to get up to 89! Fa la la la la. So today is perfect. I hope it stays that way.

We made these delicious cupcakes last night. Talk about melt in your mouth. I will never buy frosting again or make another type of frosting. These are S'more cupcakes. Chocolate cupcake, marshmallow frosting, graham cracker crumbs and piece of chocolate on top. The frosting is delicious! I found the recipe here.

Mother's Day Shout Out

Image This was my little angel for the weekend. My dear friend Jade and her husband Ben went on their long over due honeymoon. This meant that Jay and I got their daughter Tonnelle for the weekend. It was great. However with Mother's Day happening on the same weekend it made me think a lot about moms. I realized what a sacrifice women make by having children. Don't get me wrong, I want kids, a lot of them. But I realized how hard it is being a mother. You don't get to sleep in whenever you want. You can't have a completely spotless house. It takes a lot longer to run errands. It's hard going to restraunts. You can't be spontaneous.
Thankfully I have a good husband. We were getting ready to go to his parents house and I had baby in hand and was walking out the door. He said "Don't you need a bottle?" Oh, right. Check. I can't just feed her Doritoes at your parents house. So we were off again. Baby and bottle in hand. Then he said, "Don't you need a diaper?" This is when I got upset. Not with him but with myself. I am supposed to be the responsible one. Why was a such a space case at this instance.
I don't know if I am ready to be a parent but then I hold a baby and my heart melts and I know I am ready, at least in a year I will be ready.

Date Night

ImageMy dearest friend Kristi and I have standing every other Thursday date night. It's called K and C date night. We had a fantabulous time last night. We hit Casa for lots of food, Hastings for a chick flick (Bed of Roses, much better 10 years ago) and then Chill Box (great new place in town) for Ferdinands ice cream! Thanks K, see ya in 2 weeks for the usual.

Seattle

Image

We had a great weekend, last weekend... wow, I am really on top of things.

We were in Seattle visiting with Jay's family. We went to have one last hoo-rah with his older brother Andy, before Andy is deployed for a year. We went to the Woodland Zoo and it was a-mazing! There was a monkey actually picking his nose
and then eating it. It was so weird, I've heard they do that but never had I seen it before. We ate at wonderful restraunts and had some great family bonding time. Jay left on Sunday with his Dad and I stayed until Tuesday for some work meetings. The hotel I moved to was TINY, not small priced, small roomed. No joke, in order to use the bathroom I had to go into the shower, shut the door to the Imagebathroom and then find the toilet. They called the room a "cozy queen" and they weren't kidding. I had a nice time though in downtown Seattle. It made me realize that I missed my husband and didn't like being in a big city by myself, which is weird since that is the life I once pictured.
