Wyatt Joseph Brown came in to this world on Wednesday, March 21 at 10 lbs 9 oz and 21.5 inches long.

Wyatt and I had a rough start. I was sick throughout the entire pregnancy. ~From the day I found out I was pregnant I had a total of 14 days that I didn't vomit~ I joked (kind of) that if he wasn't a good baby we were going to have some favoritism issues.
My blood sugar was crazy from the beginning. The doctor in Soda Springs recommended that I see Dr. Cox, a great OB that frequently deals with high risk pregnancies. That started the weekly 120 mile round trip drive to and from Pocatello. Fortunately I have some fantastic sisters willing to drive the 120 miles (or 160 for Cara) to take care of Zac while I visited with the doctor.
The c-section had been planned for March 30 when I was 38 weeks, but at 36.5 weeks Wyatt decided he needed out of that cramped place! And honestly, I was ok with that. I don't have any pictures of me (thankfully) but at that point but I was HUGE! My feet were swollen to the point it hurt to move my toes and my shoes no longer fit. At my appointment on March 13 I measured at 51 weeks. Even I know people aren't pregnant for 51 weeks! The doctor couldn't enter that information into the computer because the program wouldn't allow a value over 50. Also, as I was leaving that appointment I heard a girl lean over to her husband and say, "Oh! She's big!" By that point it was very funny!
I went in for my usual weekly appointment on March 21. Erin had come down to Soda the day before to help me get organized and clean. She followed Zac and I to Pocatello and planned on keeping Zac during my appointment since Joe was in class. Dr. Cox was out of town for the week, so I was going to meet with his PA. As I went in for my usual non-stress test, the nurse was worried about my extremely high blood pressure. Wyatt seemed to be ok, but with my blood pressure that high they worried that he might not be for long. By the time the test was over the PA had decided that I needed to go to the hospital for observation. I let Erin and Joe know via text message that I may or may not be having a baby that day.
Dr. Jones was on call for Dr. Cox, but was in surgery while they were monitoring my blood pressure. The nurses said that I should be prepared to have a baby that day, but that Dr. Jones had the final say. Once again, I let my mom, Erin and Joe know via text message that the chance was fairly high that I would be having a baby that day. The same thing had happened with Zac. My blood pressure had suddenly gotten very high and they decided to take him a day earlier than the c-section was planned for. However, with Zac they said I had to fast for 8 hours before they could do the surgery. I assumed it would be the same for this baby. So Joe and I figured he would have a couple of hours after school got out to get everything gathered up and get to Pocatello.
Once the doctor was out of surgery he came to tell me that yes, I would be having a baby that day. He asked if I had any questions. I said, "um... what time?" He replied that we'd better do it "right now". That is when I kind of freaked out a little. Up until that point everything had been ok. I had packed a "just in case" bag for Zac with his clothes and things he would need to stay at my mom's house if I ended up not coming home from that appointment for a few days. I figured Joe would be able to gather a few things and get to the hospital in plenty of time. The idea of "right now" meant that my husband wasn't going to make it for the delivery. I explained to the doctor that Joe was in Soda, an hour away, teaching school. He said it would take about 40-45 minutes for the nurses to get me all prepped for surgery and if they needed to wait 15 minutes or so they could. I called Joe in the middle of class and let him know he had an hour to get there. He (literally) ran out of class to the office and found a substitute to take his last class for the day. He jumped in his truck and made it in record time to Pocatello. I can honestly say I've never been so glad to see his boots in my entire life! (That was the first I saw of him with the curtains they had in front of the door!) They handed Joe the little blue suit and wheeled me down the hall.
The doctors and nurses in the OR were great! Wyatt was lucky enough to have the Eagles serenading him with 'Hotel California' as he came into this life. When he came out the doctors and nurses "joked" that had would start preschool next week and had come out full grown! Joe thought he needed a beard.
Fortunately Erin was able to take Zac back to Rexburg with her. I am SO glad Erin and my mom were able to keep Zac for us! He had such a great time and threw a fit at the idea of coming home.
The first time I held Wyatt I asked him if we were going to be friends now. He scrunched up his face like he had just eaten something nasty. But my "premature" 10 lb 9 oz baby has been fantastic! He basically sleeps and eats. He sleeps through the night and cries only when I change him or is waiting impatiently for food.
Zac is terrified of him. He has held Wyatt once, only long enough to take a picture. He gets really worried when Wyatt cries, but if it is for more than a minute or two he gets all upset about the noise. We were on our way home from Pocatello for my follow up appointment (and birthday dinner) when Wyatt started crying hard since I couldn't feed him. Zac started crying hysterically, shaking his finger, telling him to stop. Other than the extreme levels of noise it was actually pretty funny!
Wyatt is a sweet little addition to our family and we love having him here!
